MEET ANOTHER ONE OF OUR MUSICAL GUESTS | JON JOHNSTON From the jazz traditions of New Orleans to the meditative sounds of Japan, Jon Johnston’s musical journey spans cultures, continents, and traditions. Beginning piano at just four years old, Jon went on to earn national recognition for jazz while attending Booker T. Washington High School in Dallas. At Berklee College of Music in Boston, he discovered the shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese bamboo flute, sparking a lifelong artistic passion. After studying under masters Stan Richardson and Yodo Kurahashi II, Jon received his shihan teaching license and the name “Jondo” in 2008. His performances include the 2012 World Shakuhachi Festival in Kyoto, the Crow Collection of Asian Art, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and the Dallas Museum of Art. Join us November 8 at The Artist Dinner Date, where Jon’s evocative shakuhachi performance will complement the Sumi ink artwork of Nishiki Sugawara-Beda and the electric harp of Alondra Máynez—an intimate evening where art, music, cuisine, and conversation converge. 📍 Tei Tei Robata Bar | Dallas
