$My work reimagines inherited myths of authority and origin, shifting them from punishment and dominance toward reciprocity and care. In Mary Alone and Together, absence and fracture become openings for tenderness, play, and new stories of embodiment. What remains is not sin or hierarchy, but the possibility of relationship—between body, land, cosmos, and one another. BIO Tereza Swanda is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans painting, sculpture, performance, and digital media to explore care, embodiment, and ecofeminist myth-making. She teaches Studio Art and Art History at Salem State University and Roxbury Community College, develops open-access curricula in decolonial pedagogy, and holds an MFA from VCFA and dual BFAs in Painting and Sculpture from MassArt. Her projects and exhibitions—such as the COIL initiative Trash to Art and the participatory series Touchstone—have been presented nationally and internationally, supported by residencies at the Vermont Studio Center and the Millay Colony. Art sale to benefit Doctors Without Borders ends October 22nd at Midnight EST. @doctorswithoutborders @terezaswanda #arts4action by @arts4action$

I look closely at the natural world for inspiration and a sense of belonging. I contemplate the interconnectedness of all living things–juxtaposing the complexities, contradictions and injustices of our world. My work deals with our collective consciousness regarding ecological health and diversity in both domestic and wild spaces to address our current environmental emergency. I use my hands, my heart, and critical thinking to make artist books, installations, mixed-media sculpture, and works on paper influenced by research, personal experience, community engagement, and a conviction that art inspires change.

These works stem from my ongoing practice of taking images from the news of destruction and conflict, and working over them, into them, abstracting them, and/or bringing them into relation with other sources and histories. They address my Jewish (Mizrahi, Ashkenazi & Sephardic) cultural identity and family histories of diaspora, intergenerational trauma, and resilience. Collapsing past and present suffering, the works point to our twined capacities for violence and repair.

Maya Pindyck’s work explores cultural belonging, memory, kinship, and ordinary violence. Her practice includes writing, mixed media, drawing, and teaching. She is the author of three books of poetry, most recently Impossible Belonging (2023), winner of the Philip Levine Prize for a Poetry and a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award. She is also co-author of A Poetry Pedagogy for Teachers (2022), shortlisted for the UKLA Academic Book Award. Her visual, collaborative, and community-based work has been exhibited at The Clemente (New York, NY), Milton Art Bank (Milton, PA), the Art in Odd Places Public Festival (New York, NY), and elsewhere. She is an associate professor and director of Writing at Moore College of Art & Design in Philadelphia.

Tessa’s work investigates themes of interconnected history, humor, transitional empires and the mystical. Painting lends itself to these concepts by recording an archaeological, tactile way of working that becomes about displacing feeling and thought over time, leaving traces.

Tessa Sutton is a visual artist and certified K-12 art teacher at The Bronx High School of Science in New York City. She has exhibited in the U.S. and internationally, most recently in Brooklyn and Minneapolis. She received her MFA from the California College of the Arts in Painting and Drawing and a BA in History from Grinnell College, reflecting her interests in interdisciplinary studies. Tessa earned her art education credential from the College of Education, University of Iowa. She has also worked at Cooper Union, Pratt Institute and California College of the Arts in higher education arts administration and at Minneapolis College of Art and Design mentoring graduate painting students.

This work is a comment on deforestation through the exploration of synaesthesia, translating the sounds of chainsaws and the machinery of clear-cutting forests into color and mark, and pointing to other ways of experiencing and being in the world.

$My work explores states of transition and quiet resilience: the shifting edges where sea meets sky, silence gathers before a storm, or land dissolves into water. I am drawn to thresholds—the unstable edges where forms are fractured, obscured, or softened. Through layering color and texture, I explore these spaces as living witnesses to presence and absence, beauty and unease. These are not fixed depictions but meditations on change, inviting reflection on a charged ground. Lisa Knoop is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice moves between painting, photography, and sculpture. Her ongoing Thresholds series reflects a deep interest in liminal states—where transformation occurs, boundaries shift, and imagination and presence overlap at the threshold of becoming. Rooted in a background in fine art and psychology, her work is shaped by long-standing inquiries into perception, memory, and relational intelligence. Knoop’s artwork moves from atmospheric horizons to abstracted fields of light and color, where silence and resilience emerge in the layering of image, memory, and transformation. She has exhibited internationally, and her work is held in private collections worldwide. Knoop lives and works in the San Francisco Bay Area. Looking at how we use our hands is a part of an on-going investigation into making care and healing visible. It is with our hands that we engage with the world around us, maintaining, tending, and mending. The minimal pallet in these oil paintings invites us to focus on the hands and their actions. The source images for the paintings come from the artist’s archive of hands collected from magazines and how-to books over many years. The work endeavoring to visually articulate and celebrate the daily act of tending that is needed in our personal, social and political realms.

Dorota Mytych is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, drawing, sculpture, video, installation, and performance. Poles Apart (No Longer)

As the poles become more accessible, regions that once were worlds apart are now conflated by ongoing geopolitical and capitalist strategies. The ideologies inherited from an imperialist past intensify as the climate crisis unfolds. No longer remote, the polar regions reflect planetary cycles of greed, expansionism, and national interests. These landscapes juxtapose, invert, and combine fragments of my photographs taken in both poles. The images both take stock of histories of human domination on species and spaces, and foreground the enduring sovereignty and agency of ice, wind, earth, and water—forces that will resist and persist beyond our human interventions.

Jessica Houston’s multidisciplinary practice explores climate justice through concepts of deep time, collaboration with nature, and engagement with local communities. Her research-driven projects bring voices across disciplines into dialogue to reveal geographies of resistance in the polar regions. Her solo and group exhibitions include …no footprints, even (Vanderbilt University Museum of Art, 2025); Beyond Her Horizons (Royal Canadian Geographical Society, 2024); Territoires sous observation (Museo de Arte de Querétaro, 2023); Terra Nova (CREA Gallery, Venice, 2022); Ecologies: A Song For Our Planet (Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, 2021); and The Call of Things (Arktikum Museum, Finland, 2019). Her work is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts, National Geographic, and Parks Canada, and is in the collections of the Montréal Museum of Fine Arts, the National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec, Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), and the Canada Council Art Bank.
