One day, I was at the shelter, just walking through the kennels, looking at the dogs… and that’s when I saw Fofo.

A big, beautiful German Shepherd sitting in his kennel, completely terrified.

When I stepped inside, he tried with everything he had to get away from me. His body was shaking. He kept searching for any tiny space he could crawl under, any corner he could disappear into. He wasn’t being difficult. He was trying to protect himself. He was scared.

That was the moment I knew I had to tell his story. I made his video and asked for the right family. Not just any family. The kind of family that would understand fear. The kind that would choose patience, not pressure.

Only two days later, Ashley and Travis drove all the way from Nashville to Georgia for him. They spent the night in a hotel just so they could be at the shelter the moment it opened. They told me they already knew. Fofo was theirs.

Watching them meet him for the first time brought me to tears. The way they spoke to him. The way they moved. The way they waited. So gentle. So calm. So full of love. In that moment, I knew he was going home.

And now, just days later, they’ve sent me pictures and videos that don’t even feel real. Fofo is running. Playing. Relaxing. Smiling. He has met their toddler, and he has been amazing with him. He has met their other dog, and it looks like they were always meant to be together. They told me they bonded immediately and have been inseparable ever since.

The dog who was shaking in a kennel is now living his best life.

This is what love does.
This is what patience does.
This is what giving a scared dog a chance can do.

Thank you to every single person who shared Fofo’s video. This happened because of community. This happened because people cared.

And @ashley.r.wright and @_travtab … thank you will never be enough. What you did is beautiful. You didn’t just adopt a dog. You changed a life.

Fofo, you were never broken. You were just waiting to be loved.

So what do you do when your close and extended family members are sick except for yourself and your newborn son?

Take advantage of the kindness offered by friends to take refuge in their spare home. Only I forgot a few things in the haste of packing. So my darling husband and fur baby, Kona, drove the missing items to me and visited from afar. This is what love looks like 🥰😌 by @sharing.lov
