If you ever wanted to see the naked chassis of a DB4, this is your lucky day. We won’t say more and let you admire this piece of art on which was based one of the most brilliant GT cars of the 50’s.

In the early 60’s, here is what the famous French importer, the « Société Nouvelle du Garage Mirabeau », said about the DB4 Vantage in this advertisement :
« La voiture de luxe formée à l’école de la course » which literally means « The luxury car trained at the racing school ». These few words perfectly depicted the DNA of this car which was, in its time, one of the very best GT cars available on the market.

After the poor results of the DB3Ss at Le Mans in 1954, Aston Martin came back in 1955 with 3 cars and a slightly different bodywork design. You can see here DB3S/6 « 62 EMU », driven by Peter Collins and Paul Frère, during a pit stop under the rain. At the end of the race, out of the 3 entered cars, only the DB3S No #23 had seen the finish line, claiming 2nd place overall after it covered 302 laps and 4.073 kms only a few laps behind the D Type Jaguar of Mike Hawthorn and Ivor Bueb. Naturally, this brilliant result was shadowed by the terrifying accident that occurred earlier during the race and several decisions were taken in order to make the event safer.

Driven by Sir Stirling Moss with Tony Brooks, DBR1/2 took the lead from lap 1 at the 12 Hours of Sebring on 22nd March 1958. Moss drove brilliantly in the first stint, and came into the pits with a very confortable advantage to the second DBR1 No #25 and both Scuderia Ferrari’s entered 25O TRs, No #14 and No #15. The DBR1 No #24 was unstoppable that day and set a new lap record. Unfortunately to finish first, first you have to finish, and after 90 laps in the lead a gearbox issue forced Moss and Brooks to retire. The result of No #25 was no better as Shelby and Salvadori had to retire earlier on lap 62 with an issue with the transmission and rear axle. A very disappointing race for Aston Martin, but the efficiency and overall speed of these cars against the Ferraris was not to prove anymore.

This picture was taken in June 1961, in the courtyard of the Hotel de France, which the Aston Martin Racing Team made its headquarter during the period of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. You can see DBR1/4 N°4 (Roy Salvadori / Tony Maggs) with DB4GT/0180/L N°1 (« Franc » / Jean Kerguen), being carefully prepared for the race. Despite these cars having proven their reliability through the past, they weren’t able to cross the finish line, #4 due to a fuel leak and #1 to an electric issue during the last hour of race.

Here are DB3/1 and DB3/3 at Le Mans in 1952. DB3/1 had a hard top fitted in order to improve the speed in the straights and DB3/3 had a body with a shorter tail (called "Manx") as it went to Chapron in Paris after its crash during the Monaco Grand Prix a few days earlier.
