The Ghost of Cassiopeia Happy Halloween! Classic image for the season but always good and spooky. I also just found out that the bright star Gamma Cassiopeiae is nicknamed “Navi”. How appropriate for the Zelda remake coming out soon. Exposure: 24 hours Lum: 130 frames x 300 sec Red: 41 frames x 300 sec Green: 36 frames x 300 sec Blue: 41 frames x 300 sec Ha: 38 frames x 300 sec Constellation: Cassiopeia Telescope: AT130 Mount: EQ6-R Pro Camera: Poseidon-M Pro Filter: Antlia LRGBHa Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #halloween #nebula by @astrokrause_nc
The Bubble Nebula Check out this image of cosmic gum is being blown into a bubble. Really it’s a massive, super-hot star about 45 times larger than our sun. Gas on the star gets so hot that it escapes away into space as a “stellar wind” moving at over 4 million miles per hour. It sweeps up the cold interstellar gas in front of it forming the other edge of the bubble. Exposure: 11 hours 137 frames x 300 sec Constellation: Cassiopeia Telescope: Nexstar 8SE with .63 reducer Mount: AM3 Camera: RisingCam IMX571 OSC Filter: Antlia ALP-t Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #nebula #celestron by @astrokrause_nc
IC 5068 “The Black Waterfall” - an interesting nebula obscured by intricate dust lines that’s often overlooked because it’s located next to the more eye-catching North America Nebula in Cygnus. Exposure: 8 hours Sulfur: 31 frames x 300 sec Hydrogen: 31 frames x 300 sec Oxygen: 30 frames x 300 sec RGB: 47 frames x 30 sec Constellation: Cygnus Telescope: AT130 Mount: EQ6-R Pro Camera: Poseidon-M Pro Filter: Antlia SHORGB Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #blueridgemountains #nebula by @astrokrause_nc

The Eastern Veil Nebula Always amazed by the intricate details of the Veil Nebula. Decided to go with an electric blue feel this time around which I think highlights the detail very well. The left part of this nebula always reminds me of Golbat from the original Pokémon. 😂 Exposure: 10 hours Hydrogen: 59 frames x 300 sec Oxygen: 59 frames x 300 sec RGB: 65 frames x 30 sec Constellation: Cygnus Telescope: AT130 Mount: EQ6-R Pro Camera: Poseidon-M Pro Filter: Antlia HOORGB Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #blueridgemountains #nebula by @astrokrause_nc
First image of Saturn this year taken on 9/1/2026. Excited to get more! Took a 5 minute long video and stacked 15% of the frames. What’s cool is we’re looking at the south pole of Saturn which will continue to be the case for several more years. The Eagle Nebula - a timeless target. Exposure: 5 hours Sulfur: 16 frames x 300 sec Hydrogen: 18 frames x 300 sec Oxygen: 16 frames x 300 sec RGB: 65 frames x 30 sec Constellation: Serpens Telescope: AT130 Mount: EQ6-R Pro Camera: Poseidon-M Pro Filter: Antlia SHORGB Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #blueridgemountains #nebula by @astrokrause_nc
SH2-86 & NGC 6823 This is a less-imaged target that does not have a moniker, rather just catalog numbers. NGC 6823 is an open star cluster that is surrounded by emission nebula SH2-86. It’s altogether a stellar nursery where young, hot stars are illuminating and carving out the surrounding nebula. I think the most interesting structures are the various pillars reaching throughout the nebulae. Exposure: 23 hours Sulfur: 90 frames x 300 sec Hydrogen: 92 frames x 300 sec Oxygen: 91 frames x 300 sec RGB: 63 frames x 30 sec Constellation: Vulpecula Telescope: AT130 Mount: EQ6-R Pro Camera: Poseidon-M Pro Filter: Antlia SHORGB Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #blueridgemountains #nebula by @astrokrause_nc
The Spindle Galaxy - M102 Here’s a neat galaxy in Draco. At first it looks like just a white blob but it’s evident after processing that there’s a clear dust lane that indicates we’re potentially looking at this galaxy edge-on. Exposure: 12 hours 145 frames x 300 sec Constellation: Draco Telescope: Nexstar 8SE with .63 reducer Mount: AM3 Camera: RisingCam IMX571 OSC Filter: No filter Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #galaxy #celestron by @astrokrause_nc
Markarian’s Chain with hydrogen bridge This is a string of galaxies near the core of the Virgo galaxy cluster. Within the cluster, at least seven galaxies in Markarian’s Chain appear to move coherently, while others may appear to be part of the chain by chance. There’s normally a couple more galaxies included in the chain, but I couldn’t fit them in the frame. One of my primary goals with this project was to capture the hydrogen bridge which is the faint, sweeping filament of ionized hydrogen gas connecting the giant elliptical galaxy M86 and the interacting spiral NGC 4438. Stretching across vast intergalactic space, this glowing gas bridge is physical evidence of ancient, violent galactic collisions. I almost gave up on trying to capture the hydrogen bridge as it’s incredibly faint and required more than double the amount of hours I thought before I even started to get a glimpse of it and imaging time this year so far has been few and far between. Exposure: 75 hours Ha: 519 frames x 300 sec Luminance: 368 frames x 120 sec Red: 193 frames x 120 sec Green: 190 frames x 120 sec Blue: 190 frames x 120 sec Constellation: Virgo Telescope: AT130 Mount: EQ6-R Pro Camera: Poseidon-M Pro Filter: Antlia HaLRGB Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #Virgo #blueridgemountains by @astrokrause_nc
Coddington’s Nebula This is actually not a nebula but rather a small, irregular dwarf galaxy discovered by Edwin Coddington in 1898. It’s 12 million light years away and found in Ursa Major. Exposure: 17 hours 205 frames x 300 sec Constellation: Ursa Major Telescope: Nexstar 8SE with .63 reducer Mount: AM3 Camera: RisingCam IMX571 OSC Filter: No filter Capture & Processing: N.I.N.A./APP/Pixinsight/Lightroom #astrophotography #galaxy #celestron by @astrokrause_nc
Finally got an acceptable enough night here (weather-wise) to image a planet. Here’s Jupiter with its moon Io. Took a 90 second long video and stacked 15% of the frames. Hope for better seeing next time to bring out finer detail.
