From Koode Nadakkam (let us walk together) to Cherth Pidikkam (let us hold close). 💜

What does it look like to build safer, more affirming homes for queer and trans young people? For Aswathy S, it began with a simple but important question: what if parents had the knowledge and language to support their children before they came out?

Through her One Future Fellowship capstone, Aswathy developed Koode Nadakkam, a Malayalam guide that helps parents understand gender and sexuality and reflect on how they respond when their child comes out. Today, that work has grown into Cherth Pidikkam, a prevention programme reaching young parents and parents-to-be through caregiver sessions and a Malayalam social media campaign.

With over 81,000 views and 650+ shares, the campaign is helping bring conversations about gender, sexuality, and acceptance into more homes.

Aswathy’s journey is a reminder of how an idea can grow beyond the Fellowship, shaped by lived experiences and a commitment to creating change in our communities.

✨ Applications for the One Future Fellowship 2026 (Cohort 10) are open until 29 November 2026, 11:59 PM IST. If you’re looking for a space to learn, find your people, and turn your ideas for social change into action, this could be your starting point.
