Heated workouts are not just harder workouts.
They are a different hormonal stressor, especially for female athletes.

Heat stacks on top of training stress and drives faster cortisol release, higher heart rate drift, and greater fluid and mineral loss. For women, this interacts directly with estrogen and progesterone, which already influence core temperature, heat tolerance, and recovery capacity across the cycle.

We often see patterns like elevated cortisol, declining ferritin, suppressed thyroid output, and electrolyte depletion in female athletes who train regularly in heated environments without adjusting fueling or recovery. None of this looks alarming on standard labs, but it can quietly reduce endurance, recovery, and training consistency.

This is why heated workouts can feel amazing at first and draining weeks later. The adaptation depends on how well your body is managing the added stress, not how tough you are.

Athlete Blood Test uses athlete specific ranges to show how heat based training is affecting female hormones and recovery markers, so adjustments can be made before performance dips.

Heat is a tool.
Your blood tells you whether it is helping or hurting.

Iron deficiency isn’t rare, it’s the most common nutrient deficiency in female athletes. Menstrual blood loss, higher iron needs from endurance training, and dietary gaps all stack the odds. Even when hemoglobin looks “normal,” ferritin (your iron storage) can already be too low to support peak performance.

That’s why new recommendations have shifted. Instead of using the old medical cut-off of 12–15 µg/L, sports science now flags ferritin below 30 µg/L as iron deficiency in athletes. For elite endurance athletes, research even suggests targeting 40–50 µg/L to maintain optimal oxygen transport and recovery.

The ABT.She Testing Package puts ferritin front and center, alongside hormones, thyroid, and other micronutrients unique to female physiology. We don’t wait until you’re anemic, we identify deficiencies before they derail your training.

Female athletes: your “normal” isn’t the same as the general population. Time to test like an athlete.

You would never judge an entire training block by one workout. Give your bloodwork the same perspective.

Your first test establishes a starting point. Follow-up testing helps you see how measured markers change as you adjust fueling, recovery, and training.

The value comes from interpreting those results alongside your sport, your workload, and the changes you’ve made. That’s where ABT’s athlete-specific analysis adds context beyond a standard lab report.

Establish your baseline. Put your recommendations into practice. Build a performance history with ABT.

Your Halloween candy could earn a spot in your race kit. 🍬

Gummy bears provide concentrated carbohydrates that can help fuel working muscles during a long run or ride. The trick is knowing your portion.

For Haribo Goldbears:
🐻 13 bears = 23 g carbs
🐻 17 bears ≈ 30 g carbs
🐻 26 bears = 46 g carbs

For endurance sessions lasting 1–2.5 hours, a common target is 30–60 g carbs per hour. Count candy, gels, and sports drinks toward that total.

Check your package label, spread portions across the hour, and pair with water. Your electrolyte plan still matters, and training is the place to test how your stomach handles them.

Fueling is one part of your performance picture. ABT goes beyond a standard lab report with athlete-specific bloodwork interpretation and practical recommendations for fueling and recovery.

Save this for your next long session. Send it to the training partner who always raids the candy bowl.

Your training is specific. Your bloodwork interpretation should be, too. 🩸

A 2026 study compared Olympic-level marathoners, weightlifters, and sedentary adults. Researchers identified 301 blood protein groups. Of those, 36 differed significantly between groups.

The finding wasn’t that one type of athlete had “better” blood. Different training demands were associated with different protein patterns.

For your next blood test, bring more than your sample:

✓ Your sport and performance goals
✓ Weekly training hours or mileage
✓ Your current training phase
✓ Your last hard session or race
✓ Changes in energy and recovery

That context helps make the conversation about your results more useful.

ABT goes beyond a standard lab report with athlete-specific analysis and practical recommendations for fueling, recovery, and supplementation.

Save this checklist for your next test. Bring your training story to your bloodwork.

Study note: Researchers measured specialized proteins, not the markers on ABT’s panels. This single-time-point comparison doesn’t prove training caused the differences.

26.2 miles finished. Recovery starts now. 🏅

Your next training block benefits from what you do after the finish line. Here’s your post-marathon recovery checklist:

💤 REST & RECOVERY
Make the first 7 days recovery-focused. Skip speedwork, long runs, and heavy lifting. Start with rest and comfortable walking, then return gradually as soreness and energy improve. One week is a planning guide, not proof of full recovery.

🍳 PROTEIN: 20–40 GRAMS PER MEAL
Spread protein across your day to support muscle repair. Your target depends on body size and overall needs. Rotate eggs, Greek yogurt, chicken, fish, tofu, and beans. More protein shouldn’t crowd out the carbs your muscles need.

🍚 CARBS: KEEP THEM IN YOUR FIRST 24–48 HOURS
Make carbs part of every meal and snack as you replenish muscle fuel. Rice, potatoes, oats, fruit, and bread all count. This is a recovery priority, not a deadline for being fully recovered. Rest days still require fuel.

💧 HYDRATION: REPLACE WHAT YOU LOST
Each 1 pound of body weight lost during the race represents roughly 16 oz of fluid deficit. Aim to replace about 20–24 oz over the following hours, alongside sodium-containing food or drinks. Drink steadily rather than forcing large amounts at once.

🍒 TART CHERRY: KNOW THE RESEARCH DOSE
Studies commonly use 8–12 oz twice daily, starting 4–5 days before an event and continuing for 2–3 days afterward. It may support muscle recovery, but starting after the finish line isn’t the same protocol. Concentrates have different serving sizes.

🩸 BLOODWORK: ADD YOUR RACE DATE
Recent racing can temporarily influence blood markers. Share your race date and training load with your testing team so your results have the right context.

ABT adds athlete-specific interpretation and actionable recommendations to your bloodwork, going beyond the numbers on a standard lab report.

Save this for your next finish line. Fuel your recovery. Build your next performance.

Your race-day glucose spike isn’t a performance score.

In a study of 20 highly trained male runners and race walkers, peak glucose readings were higher during competition than during training at the same prescribed pace. That difference alone doesn’t tell us whether the spike helped or hurt performance, or whether fueling needed to change.

Pace is only part of the picture. Effort, food and drink, timing, and how you felt give the number context. One striking graph can’t explain all of it.

That principle matters for bloodwork, too. Standard lab ranges provide a general health reference. ABT adds athlete-specific interpretation to help connect your results with your training, recovery, and performance goals.

Save this as a reminder: collect the data, record the context, and look for patterns. Ready to understand your bloodwork through an athlete-specific lens? Start with ABT. by @athletebloodtestcom

You can copy another athlete’s fueling plan. You can’t copy their training demands.

A cyclist preparing for a short track event needs a different nutrition strategy than a rider tackling consecutive days of racing. The same principle applies to runners, triathletes, and every endurance athlete: your fueling should reflect the work you’re doing, including the recovery between sessions.

That’s the takeaway from the UCI Sports Nutrition Project: useful performance advice starts with the individual.

Your bloodwork deserves that same context. Standard labs assess your results against general health ranges. ABT adds an athlete-specific lens, connecting your biomarkers with your training, recovery, and goals to guide actionable recommendations.

Save this before your next training block. Build your plan around your demands, and use your own data to train smarter.

The fitness is built. Now the goal is getting all of it to the start line.

In the final weeks before a marathon, adding more training is rarely the breakthrough. The priority shifts to protecting adaptation, resolving recovery gaps, and making sure your biology can support the pace you trained to hold.

Flat legs, harder easy runs, disrupted sleep, and slower recovery can signal more than pre-race nerves. Iron and ferritin status influence oxygen delivery. Electrolytes and key nutrients support muscle function. Cortisol, testosterone, and DHEA-S add context around training stress and recovery capacity.

Standard bloodwork looks for disease. The ABT Gold Panel evaluates these biomarkers through an athlete-specific lens, then turns the results into actionable recommendations for nutrition, supplementation, training, and recovery.

Your training plan shows the work you completed. Your blood shows whether your body is ready to cash it in.

Know what is powering your race.

Low on energy? Feeling “off” with your running training?

Well you could be low on a vital mineral or vitamin. For example many Americans have not optimized their vitamin D levels and many runners can suffer from low iron.

So get checked! 🩸

As an athlete you are pushing your body a lot harder and it’s demanding. We don’t just thrive in the “normal ranges”….even the recommendations with ferritin have changed recently (threshold being 30 ng/ML).

You can eat more and still underfuel your training.

High-mileage weeks burn more calories than your workouts. Your body also needs energy for recovery, daily movement, temperature regulation, and basic physiology. Standard calculators and wearables estimate that total demand. Your training block deserves more than an average.

Calorify (@calorify.health) and Athlete Blood Test close the gap from both sides.

Calorify uses doubly labeled water to measure your real-world energy expenditure across an entire week. Athlete Blood Test shows how your body is responding through athlete-specific biomarkers related to energy, recovery, iron status, hormones, and performance.

One measures what your body is spending.
The other reveals how your biology is handling the workload.

Together, they give athletes better data to build a fueling plan around the work they are actually doing, not the number an algorithm assumes.

Measure the demand. Understand the response. Fuel the athlete.

Ready to stop estimating?
