Iโ€™m funny. Seriously. ๐Ÿ˜‚ They say OR staff only laugh at the surgeonโ€™s jokes because they have to. Not my team. They actually think Iโ€™m funny. At least thatโ€™s what they tell me. ๐Ÿ’€ by @atlneurosurgeon

๐Ÿง  5 clues. How many do you need? ๐Ÿ‘€ A 71-year-old patient comes to my spine clinic because walking through the grocery store has become a problem. ๐Ÿ”Ž Clue 1: Chronic low back pain with discomfort in both buttocks and thighs, gradually worsening over several years. ๐Ÿ”Ž Clue 2: Walking or standing for long periods causes heaviness and pain radiating down both legs. ๐Ÿ”Ž Clue 3: Sitting or leaning forward brings relief. They can walk much farther while pushing a shopping cart. ๐Ÿ›’ ๐Ÿ”Ž Clue 4: Standing still doesnโ€™t relieve the symptoms. Foot pulses are normal, with no history of smoking. ๐Ÿ”Ž Clue 5: MRI reveals narrowing of the spinal canal and lateral recesses, most pronounced at L4-L5, due to enlarged facet joints, thickened ligamentum flavum, and a bulging disc. ๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ Patients, medical students, residents, and fellow clinicians: Letโ€™s see how quickly you can figure this one out! ๐Ÿ‘‡ Comment TWO things: 1. Apparently, she has NOTES. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ“ฑ My buddyโ€™s cousin has a LOT to say about how we doctors run our social media and what we post. ๐Ÿ’š For my Tinkerbell, Iโ€™ll always be Peter Pan. ๐Ÿงšโ€โ™€๏ธ My daughter wanted to be Tinkerbell for Halloween, so naturally, I agreed to be Peter Pan. What I didnโ€™t realize was that I would be the ONLY adult dressed up at the neighborhood party. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Green tights and all. But hereโ€™s the thingโ€ฆ I spend a lot of hours in the operating room. And when I get time with my daughter, I want that time to be intentional. Not just physically present, but fully invested in whatever makes her happy. One day, she wonโ€™t need me to dress up with her. Sheโ€™ll have her own plans, her own friends, and her own adventures. But I hope she always knows that her dad will show up for her. Even when heโ€™s the only one wearing a costume. Because being her dad will always be my favorite role. ๐Ÿ’š And if that means wearing green tights in front of the entire neighborhood, so be it. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Dr. Steven Spitz Complex Spine Neurosurgeon ๐Ÿ“ Atlanta #GirlDad #FatherDaughter #Halloween by @atlneurosurgeon

Itโ€™s keeping up with how quickly our field evolves. Technology advances. Surgical techniques improve. Research challenges what we thought we knew. And as a complex spine neurosurgeon, I have a responsibility to keep learning. ๐Ÿ”ฌ Studying emerging technologies ๐Ÿฆด Advancing minimally invasive and muscle-sparing spine surgery techniques ๐ŸŒŽ Attending conferences and collaborating with pioneers in our field ๐Ÿ“š Staying current with research, clinical studies, and surgical outcomes ๐Ÿค Maintaining relationships with the organizations, educators, and surgeons pushing our specialty forward After 10 years in practice, Iโ€™ve learned that experience alone isnโ€™t enough. Some of my greatest lessons have come from other surgeons, researchers, and educators who challenge the way I think and operate. Being a leader in surgery also means remaining a student of it. And thatโ€™s a responsibility I take seriously. ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ For my fellow surgeons and healthcare professionals, whatโ€™s been the hardest part of staying at the top of your field? HAPPY MEDICAL ASSISTANT DAY Shannon, we couldnโ€™t do it without you! She has the brain of a neurosurgeon. She can answer most medical questions better than just about anyone in the office. โšก Sheโ€™s incredibly efficient. She runs a busy clinic like nobodyโ€™s business. โค๏ธ She genuinely cares. Not just about getting the job done, but about every patient who walks through our doors. ๐Ÿ’ช Her work ethic is unmatched. Who would get kidnappedโ€ฆ and returned IMMEDIATELY? ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ’€ We asked our OR staff to name ONE coworker a kidnapper couldnโ€™t handle. The top two answers? ๐Ÿ‘€ ๐Ÿคฃ Brandon, our scrub tech ๐Ÿคฃ Ted, our surgical device distributor Apparently, these two are a handful! When you spend 12+ hours together in the operating room, you get to know your coworkers VERY well. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Surgeons, nurses, scrub techs, anesthesia providers, first assists, and medical device repsโ€ฆ nobody is safe! ๐Ÿฅ Healthcare workers, whoโ€™s getting returned first from YOUR operating room? ๐Ÿ‘‡ Dr. Steven Spitz Complex Spine Neurosurgeon ๐Ÿ“ Atlanta #OR #Humor #funny #vote by @atlneurosurgeon
