Music Industry Myth 2️⃣ The 'manager' magic bullet ... Actually, a business manager is an addition that comes much later in an artist's career, and certainly not as a first step. Most legitimate business managers charge 5% to 10% of your gross income, so if you hire one too early, their fees will drain your cash right out. Plus, outsourcing your finances before you understand them makes you a prime target for financial exploitation. You may already have some basic financial literacy in place, and that's a great base, but what you need right now a reliable bookkeeper or CPA to round things out. And this is our speciality 😎 #AtomicCanyon #Accounting #FreelanceSupport #MusicIndustry #CreativeIndustry by @atomic_canyon

Cost of Living and Energy 📝 🪙 One-off £100 payment for 20 million households in council tax bands A–D during the winter. 🪙 Abolishing standing charges for 23 million households starting next year. 🪙 Temporary VAT cut on electricity extended to Jul 27. 🪙 5p fuel duty freeze on petrol and diesel extended until Jul 27. Taxation and Savings 📝 🪙 Tax rates on property and savings income to increase by two percentage points starting Apr 27. 🪙 Employment and dividend tax rates remain unchanged. 🪙 Previous plan to lower the tax-free Cash ISA limit to £12k scrapped (remaining as £20k). 🪙 A new 'starter ISA' will be created for first-time investors. 🪙 Bank surcharge on top of corporation tax will temporarily double for 15 months starting Jan 27. Music Industry Myth 1️⃣ The good old fame gatekeeper. The truth is, waiting until you're famous is an expensive mistake. Your expenses need tracking from day ONE, and an industry-trained accountant can help you structure your business and make the most of your write-offs (gear, travel, studio time, and so on). As well as finally untangling your personal and business expenses! So you see, it can work out *much* cheaper in the long run to hire an accountant. They can set things up for you, clean and tidy, and help you to avoid that multi-tax year disaster. If only we knew of someone we could recommend ... 🤔 #AtomicCanyon #Accounting #MusicIndustry #CreativeAccounting #FreelanceSupport by @atomic_canyon
The global music landscape has changed a lot this year, and even more so in October alone. Independent creators and industry leaders, listen up! ☝️ Streaming remains the dominant driver of recorded music revenue, but platforms have implemented harsher rules. Like Spotify's 1,000-stream minimum threshold for royalty payouts and automatic penalty fees passed to distributors for flagged artificial streaming. Artists need to diversify their revenue mix, not rely solely on Digital Service Providers. ✌️ Independent creators and labels now control roughly 40% of global streaming revenue, up from 30% at the start of the decade. The barrier to releasing music has practically vanished, resulting in over 150,000 new tracks being uploaded every single day. Winning at the independent gig means dropping single tracks every 4 to 6 weeks to stay ahead of algorithms, and stay current on Release Radars and Discover Weekly. 👌 Fully AI-generated music remains a very small niche among listeners, who still crave authentic human storytelling. AI-powered tools are being used best for audience analytics, release timing windows, contract analysis, and metadata tracking. Delegate operations to AI, but keep the art HUMAN. 🖖 The modern music business model treats an artist as an IP brand platform. Live events are the main financial engine, while syncing and creating original content for gaming worlds offers massive scale compared to traditional media. Releasing short-form videos showing rehearsals, and acoustic/BTS bits can be a real game changer for detecting audience signals and steer ad spends. 🙏 Staying ahead requires understanding that the definition of a music company or distributor has completely evolved. And it's been nice to see more and more people seeing technology as a bridge to deeper human connection, not a be-all-end-all replacement for it. #AtomicCanyon #Accounting #MusicIndustry #SupportFreelancers #FinancialAdvice by @atomic_canyon

'I recently had the pleasure of working with Bobby, my accountant, and I must say that he exceeded all my expectations.' 5️⃣⭐ Some more lovely words from Daniel, thank you! When the worry takes over and months go by with no progress (so easily done!), it's no problem. We can walk you through the whole process and explain every step as we go. Daniel went on to recommend us 'to anyone who is looking for an accountant who truly cares about their clients' financial well-being,' and that's exactly where we stand. Working as a unit to get the ball rolling on your accounts 💪💪 We also love hearing from those we work with (especially when the words are as lovely as these) so, by all means, keep 'em coming! #AtomicCanyon #ClientReview #Accounting #CreativeIndustry #MusicIndustry by @atomic_canyon
It’s as simple as learning how to pay out less 💸 And you can start deducting costs from, well, right now: 🪙 Guitar, amplifiers, microphones, laptops, or smartphones used for work. 🪙 Rent, utilities, and internet if you use a space or a dedicated home studio exclusively for recording and practice. 🪙 Train tickets, flights, and business mileage (such as driving to gigs or meetings). 🪙 Website hosting, social media ads, graphic design services, and merchandise production costs. 🪙 Fees for managers, agents, accountants (👋😉), lawyers, and your membership dues to the Musicians' Union. 🪙 Music lessons, masterclasses, workshops, and trade subscriptions. All you have to remember is to keep ALL your receipts and invoices safe (even if you’re not sure on something), and be mindful of your tax-free allowance. You pay zero income tax on self-employed profits under £12,570 per tax year, and if your total music royalty or trading income is under £1,000, you generally do not need to file a tax return. If you’re a sole trader with a turnover above £50,000, then you must keep digital records and send quarterly updates to HMRC. Need help calculating your allowable expenses? Or maybe deducting a home studio setup? We’re here as and when ✌️ #AtomicCanyon #Accountant #MusicIndustry #CreativeIndustry #FreelanceFinances by @atomic_canyon
