OPENING OCTOBER 16:

Atrium Artspace is proud to announce Big Bang Baby, a solo exhibition from the cosmic mind of LUSMERLIN ( @lusmerlin ).

Big Bang Baby transforms ancestral divinity, folklore, and science into a radiant universe of light, color, and controlled chaos. A former chemical engineer, LUSMERLIN channels feminine divinity through a multi-material cosmos formed by painting, sculpture, and lighting on a foundation of pastel.

Join us for an experience of radical joy, refuge, and reflection during Big Bang Baby, which is on view at Atrium Artspace from October 16 - December 15, 2026.

LUSMERLIN is inspired by Afro-Dominican spiritual traditions of “carrying a mystery” and the Native Taíno Zemi goddesses. Big Bang Baby asks the question: What does it mean to be stardust, to be a source of divinity?

Come and find out where this journey of discovery leads you. The opening reception will take place Friday, October 16 from 5-9pm. by @atriumartspace

Grateful and deeply touched for the time, the care, the encouragement. This goes with respect and admiration to you all. Thank you, profoundly! by @atriumartspace

Friday, November 13 at 6:30pm, during the Station North Art Walk ( @stationnorth ), join us for an artist talk with the incredible LUSMERLIN as she shares her solo exhibition, BIG BANG BABY, currently on view at Atrium Artspace. This talk is your opportunity to discuss with the artist as she delves into the process, inspiration, ethos, and artistic decisions that led to the creation of this cosmic, chemical, and spiritual body of work.

BIG BANG BABY collects artworks on paper, canvas, and panel, along with a large site-specific mixed media installation of the eponymous artwork that serves as a landmark for viewers. Enjoy the breadth of LUSMERLIN’s practice and the emotional connectivity of the artworks displayed - an amazing show of the artist’s technique, material selection, and composition.

Following the artist talk, we will be hosting a performance by The Ambient Project ( the_ambient_project ), an internationally recognized duo group featuring Josh Morris ( @jazzreverb ) on trumpet and Issac Choi on piano. They perform fully improvised creations often based on the setting and mood of the performance space itself. In 2025, they were awarded a Silver medal by the International Trumpet Guild Recording Awards panel for their debut album Duets Vol. 1. Pushing the boundaries with every performance, they explore new sounds, rhythms, and harmonies ensuring a unique listener experience.

We are excited to welcome you all for this upcoming evening of art, music, and community.

This Saturday, join us during the citywide architectural tours as part of Doors Open Baltimore ( @doorsopenbmore ), an annual celebration of historic and contemporary buildings in Baltimore City. Now in our second year of participation, we are thankful to participate in this tremendous tradition that highlights some of the most beautiful and intriguing buildings in the city.

LUSMERLIN’s ( @lusmerlin ) Big Bang Baby is on view at Atrium Artspace through the closing reception on December 11, 2026. The exhibition tells a story of feminine divinity and follows a semi-autobiographical journey of cosmic creation that blends spiritual and scientific expression. LUSMERLIN’s distinct use of pastels in large-scale artworks lends layered, textured depth to the otherworldly subjects.

The response to Big Bang Baby has been beautiful, with visitors immersed in the energetic mass of early matter and wobbling strings. These physical processes are personified in figures that draw from LUSMERLIN’s personal experiences with chemistry, Christianity, and the indigenous and ancient spiritual practices that she was exposed to during her early childhood in the Dominican Republic.

We hope to see you this weekend during the gallery’s open hours on Friday from 2-5 and Saturday from 1-5pm. Doors Open Baltimore runs all day Saturday, and the program is split between morning and afternoon participating sites. It’s a great opportunity to see inside some of the City’s most fascinating buildings, many of which are not normally accessible to the public.

Coming up next, LUSMERLIN’s artist talk will take place on November 13 during the monthly Station North ( @stationnorth ) Art Walk, which runs from 5pm-9pm. That evening we will welcome a special musical guest whose ambient sounds draw out the emotional connection between humanity and the quantum realm.

With a BANG! Thanks to everybody who came out to celebrate the opening of BIG BANG BABY by LUSMERLIN ( @lusmerlin ), on view through the middle of December at Atrium Artspace.

We spent the evening sharing in the energetic journey of creation - from the first moments of the universe, where flowing fields and quantum interactions ruled, to the sanctified and uplifted figures bridging humanity and the spiritual world.

LUSMERLIN’s bold approach to pastels brings a textured and layered depth to her artworks, which feature divine feminine forms that are both self-portrait and iconography.

The coalescence of matter into components, into personhood and beyond is depicted in bright, saturated celebration in BIG BANG BABY. Don’t miss this incredible exhibition by LUSMERLIN, an artist with tremendous promise, talent, and dedication.

Closing Saturday: Beyond The Shadow Of Doubt, a 20 year retrospective by photographer, author and designer Sean Dackermann ( @seandackermann ). Join us for the closing reception this Saturday from 6pm - 10pm!

This exhibition draws from every part of Dackermann’s career in photography - documentary, editorial, and barrack images fill the gallery with representation of the artist’s broad skills. The installation tells the story of Dackermann’s upcoming photo books, A Moment’s Notice Volume 2, New Golden, and Finding Light.

From images of live hip hop performance to macro shots of natural objects, Sean has a knack for drawing out the soul of his subjects. Composition, subject selection, and color theory play equal roles in his practice, which spans from professional photography of food & beverage and hospitality clients and portraits to day-in-the-life documentation.

As a working and exhibiting artist, Sean Dackermann has a unique perspective on creativity, productivity, and expression that is intertwined with his infectious positivity. Working with Sean on this exhibition has been so inspiring, and I’ll be sad to see this show end!
