Can you even believe it’s BEEN 3 YEARS since we released MEDO! Low key I can!! But time does FLYYYYY. Lots can change in three years, and lots has, but this project has been a companion to me, growing up alongside it, learning about myself, my friends and the world. Aunty Freeda has supported all the big changes in my life. The comfort of returning to the band or to the writing when I feel low is an unimaginable privilege. I began writing Medo about the feeling of dissociation, wanting to escape into a daydream, and refusing to face the vulgar truth of my reality. I was struggling with the consequences of SA, manipulation, anorexia, isolation and losing my personhood. The song brought me a sense of peace, and a temporary end to my underlying suffering. Having a second family that dreams large with me was a huge part of learning to live life again. Shout out to all the members of Aunty Freeda, old and new <3 <3 And if you’d like to, let’s celebrate and stream Medo on her BDay xoxoxo by @auntyfreeda

AUNTY FREEDA Newcomers Aunty Freeda are a Leeds based six-piece, using their training at Leeds Conservatoire to fuse art-pop, Georgian folk, jazz and classical influences into a unique and otherworldly amalgamation. Inspired by Kate Bush, Black Country New Road, Fiona Apple, and the theatricality of live performances from the 70s/80s, they are quickly becoming one of the most intriguing projects to emerge from the Leeds music scene in the past 12 months. Anna Alfreda Gudushauri Emmerson, half-Georgian singer-songwriter, directs the music, using her experiences as a queer woman to write deeply personal yet immediately relatable songs. Aunty Freeda is almost certainly a name you will be hearing more of in the future. Head to the link in our bio for tickets!! #showcase #rpevents #eventsinleeds #leedsevents by @auntyfreeda
