🎧 studio audio

*the first sound is my dog having a drink and is one of the most commonly heard noises in the studio.

I wandered through with the camera today, getting clips of things exactly as they are. No cleaning, no organising. Messy bits are still good bits.

These textures are delish.

⬆️ pictured: a couple of wall tiles that featured in my recent exhibition. I am really into these simple and impactful wall works.

I haven’t been sharing much because I haven’t known what to put out there. I’ve been relishing studio moments and a slow, quiet pace. Post-exhibition times tend to be this way- deeply contemplative and questioning. Cogs are always turning, seeds of new work slowly germinating. 🌱

So guess what- there’s one more week to see my show! Friday next week will be the last day to view Wrath & Mercy in person 🌹 Thank you to all that have seen the show, at times it can feel very vulnerable to share work such as this. The absolute cherry on top of this experience has been working with @alexandralawsongallery who has been a pillar of support throughout the entire process.

‘Thorn in my side’ by Aurora Elwell challenges the way the traditional object is read and used, in that traditionally when handles are included in a design they invite the user to touch the object, however in this case touch is made impossible by the inclusion of long thorns, promising harm.

This work is showing until tomorrow at Elwell’s solo exhibition titled ‘Wrath and Mercy’ at UniSQ A Block Gallery (opening during business hours).

Last year I bought a backdrop and some lights so I can get my own photographs of my work 📷 Having a shed as a studio makes set up very easy, just a couple of strong magnets to set up the backdrop and I’m good to go. Yesterday I finally put the gear to use and snapped this image of my 2025 work, Emerge. ✨

‘Vine Fruit in Red II’ by Aurora Elwell references fruit growing in the garden that explore the notion of wrath and mercy by daring the user to touch the sweet fruit covered in spikes.

This work forms a part of Aurora Elwell’s solo titled Wrath and Mercy now showing at UniSQ A Block gallery until June 26 (open during business hours).

Somehow it’s been a week and a bit since Wrath & Mercy opened! The days have totally disappeared. Thank you sincerely to all that came to the opening, it was so truly special to share moments with you all and have some great conversations about life and art. It means a great deal to me to receive support not only in person but on here, too. Thank you to everyone who has been cheering me on ♥️ There’s many thoughts and feelings to digest when creating a show, and I spend many many hours in the studio questioning my forms, techniques, composition and intentions for the work. The compulsion to create can feel so simple at times, and other times it feels like the most complicated thing in the world. I am very pleased with how this show has turned out and I hope you can find time to go and check it out!

During the floor talk at the opening of her solo ‘Wrath and Mercy’ Aurora spoke about the handles on a ceramic object indicating that it is to be picked up/handled. These handles make it impossible with the presence of the thorns she explains, they’re challenging the viewer, as though to say, ‘go on - I dare you’. 🔥
