My Story Is Mine A look into my past “Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are burnt with scars.” – Khalil Gibran Listen to me. I’m not what you say I am. Know that my actions will show you the person I have become. Growing up in the City of Los Angeles throughout the late 1980s and early 1990s, I was exposed to gangs and violence. I decided to tell my story exactly how it happened. I’m sick of other people speaking for me, becoming my narrator without my permission, and telling me what was and wasn’t true. My narrative is MINE, and I’m the only one who can tell it the way it is. Gangs and violence were more active and visible during that period of time. My mother tried her best to raise my brothers and sisters the best way she could as a single parent, but too much corruption filled the streets. Society’s expectation of Mexican Americans like myself was failure. At thirteen, I was out of control, skipping school, drinking heavily, and running my own show. I was born into this way of life, I didn’t have a choice. Out of my darkness, my brother tried to save me. He came and forced me to go live with him to find a better way of life. But he also caused more damage. As his crazy teen sister was on her own life’s experiences and adventures, she crossed the line and overdosed on a street drug, almost killing herself. Will I make a new life for myself? Or will I sink further into the dark hole that threatens to claim my life? I asked myself, Is my life worth saving? #MyStoryIsMine #ErikaRuiz #TrueLifeStory #SurvivorStory #AgainstAllOdds Order: https://a.co/d/0cHb3SN6 by @author.erikaruiz

❤️🦋 2015 — The Year I Discovered a Part of Myself I Never Knew Existed. Back in 2015, I discovered a huge part of myself that I never even knew was there. A major breakthrough happened in my life, and at that time, it was one of the best things that had ever happened to me. I experienced breakdowns along the way, but most importantly, I experienced some of the biggest BREAKTHROUGHS of my life! 🙏❤️ Through this transformational training, known back then as Discovery and now called LifeWorks, I learned so much about myself, the true meaning of community work, personal growth, leadership, compassion, and the power of making a difference in the lives of others. Looking back, I am so incredibly proud of myself for taking a stand for ME, stepping outside my comfort zone, and choosing to invest in my own transformation. That decision changed my life in ways I could have never imagined. 🦋✨ And here I am, all these years later, still practicing what I learned, still growing, still discovering, and still committed to creating transformation throughout my life—not only for myself, but for those around me, my community, and ultimately, the world. 🌎❤️ Because transformation isn’t something that happens just once. It’s a lifelong journey, and I’m still on mine. Forever grateful for that chapter of my life. ❤️🙏 #PersonalTransformation #LifeWorks #Breakthroughs #SelfDiscovery #CommunityLeadership by @author.erikaruiz

Thank you, Vero Echo Parque & Spider, for believing in me, supporting my books, and being part of my journey. Your kindness has never been forgotten, and I appreciate you both more than words can express. 🙏❤️ #VeroEchoParque #ElysianPark #SupportIndependentAuthors #GratefulHeart #LosAngelesMemories by @author.erikaruiz

I remember this day so clearly. ❤️ Nobody knew it at the time, but this was actually the very first time I had fully stepped out of my house and taken a chance on myself after surviving years of abuse that eventually led to a nervous breakdown. That’s a whole different story, one I will share another day. But this day meant so much more than anyone could ever imagine. It wasn’t just another day out. It was a brand-new start. A new beginning. A moment when I finally started finding myself again. 🦋❤️ I will forever be grateful to those who stood by my side, held my hand, and helped me take those first steps when I was still learning how to stand strong again. You know who you are, and I will never, ever forget what you did for me. ❤️🙏 Sometimes the smallest moments in a photograph carry the biggest stories of survival. This was one of mine. ❤️ #SurvivorStory #NewBeginnings #DomesticViolenceSurvivor #HealingJourney #WarriorStrong by @author.erikaruiz

❤️✨ Another Beautiful Throwback Memory — Meeting Edward James Olmos! 🎬🌟 I’ll never forget the time I had the opportunity to meet the legendary Edward James Olmos at St. Francis of Assisi Parish, when he came to speak to our church group. ⛪❤️ Little did I know back then that he would go on to become an even bigger Hollywood icon! Looking back, it’s amazing to remember the people we cross paths with throughout our lives and the special moments that become unforgettable memories. What an honor to have met him and heard him speak to the youth at our teen session.❤️🎥 #EdwardJamesOlmos #HollywoodLegend #ThrowbackMemories #LatinoHollywood #UnforgettableMoments by @author.erikaruiz
My Young Authors Academy! 🌟 During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, when the world seemed to stand still, I decided to turn a difficult time into something meaningful by creating my very own Young Authors Academy! 📖❤️ My mission was to inspire young minds and teach children the wonderful world of writing, storytelling, and becoming published authors. Through my academy, I introduced children to important writing vocabulary, creative storytelling, and the step-by-step process of writing, creating, illustrating, and self-publishing their very own books! ✨ I wanted children to understand that they didn’t have to wait until adulthood to become authors. Their voices, imaginations, and stories mattered right then and there! If I could become a published author, I wanted to teach children that they could become one, too! ❤️ Looking back, I’m so proud of this beautiful chapter in my journey as an author, educator, and mentor. Because every young author deserves the opportunity to turn their imagination into a published book! 📚🌎 Founded by Author Erika Ruiz ❤️✍️ #YoungAuthorsAcademy #ErikaRuiz #YoungAuthors #KidsWhoWrite #futurepublishedauthors by @author.erikaruiz
