POSTS STORIES REELS

Everyone starts somewhere.

One of the biggest misconceptions about collecting original art is that you need to know something about art before you can begin.

You don't!

You don't need an art history degree, an impressive budget, or a house full of paintings.

You simply need to discover something that speaks to you and take that first step.

Over my years in the gallery business, I've seen many wonderful collections begin with just one piece.

Do you remember the first piece of original art you purchased? What made you choose it?

I'd love to hear your story.

SOME PLAYERS MAKE THE HIGHLIGHTS. OTHERS INSPIRE WORKS OF ART. 🔴⚪🔵

And Cole Caufield certainly knows how to do both!

There's nothing quite like the excitement of Canadiens hockey, and with another season underway, Habs fans have plenty to cheer about.

Montreal collage artist Allen Ford captures that passion in this one of a kind original artwork celebrating #13, Cole Caufield.

Created using layers of Montreal's posters and imagery, this piece brings together two things this city loves: hockey and art.

For the devoted Habs fan, what better way to celebrate your team than with an original piece of Montreal hockey history in the making?

Game night! Who's cheering for Caufield tonight?

Imagine the possibilities…

Cathy Benny’s Words series has been such a success, and we’re delighted to share her second painting titled “Imagine.”

The first has already found its home, and now it’s this beauty’s turn.

We’d love to see it in a shared or public space, where one word might spark an idea, start a conversation, or inspire someone every day.

Of course, if that happens to be your home, we will celebrate that too

Who has a place for a little imagination?

Art is personal

It doesn’t always have to make sense. You don’t have to understand why you’re drawn to something or be able to explain why you love it.

Sometimes you simply do.

Whether you own two pieces, five pieces or a hundred, over time they become a reflection of you.

Your home shouldn’t look like everyone else’s. Neither should your art.

Collect what feels like you.

Because the best collections don’t just fill walls. They tell stories. by @avenueartgallery

Something is taking shape.

Inspiration. Fragments. A little Montreal magic.

This is only the beginning.

Follow the journey.
The reveal is coming.

One image.
One memory.
One place.
One unexpected connection.

That is often where a new body of work begins.

We’ve been talking about collage—how fragments come together to tell a story.

Now it’s time to see where inspiration can take it.

Something is beginning to unfold…

A small detail of what is to come. Anyone feeling this vibe yet?

We've shown you the artist, We've shown you the process.

When I work with artists, I talk a lot about continuity.

Creating a recognizable body of work matters. Developing a series matters. Giving collectors, galleries and your audience an opportunity to understand and recognize your artistic voice matters.

But I always follow that advice with something equally important:

Never stop creating what is asking to come out of you.

If you feel compelled to paint something different, explore another medium, sketch an idea, experiment with a different style—or simply make something because you love making it—do it.

It doesn't mean you have to abandon the series you're building or change the direction of your professional practice.

One does not negate the other.

That work you're making “on the side” may remain something you simply love to create. Or it may become your next series. It may be the bridge between where your work is today and where it is going next.

You don't always need to know.

Sometimes your job is simply to allow yourself to create—and see where it takes you.

You are the creator. So create.

MEET ALLEN FORD

Avenue Art is pleased to welcome contemporary collage artist Allen Ford.

Over the past week, we've been talking about collage—about looking closer, seeing beyond the first impression, and discovering how individual fragments can come together to create something entirely new.

Now it's time to introduce you to one of the reasons why.

Allen's work caught our attention not simply because of what he creates, but because of how he creates it. His approach to collage invites you to look closer. What you see from across the room becomes something quite different as you move toward the work and begin to discover the layers within it.

Over the coming weeks, we'll take you inside Allen's process, share another perspective on his work, and eventually reveal something new that we've deliberately been keeping under wraps.

For now, meet Allen Ford.

COLLAGE

A collage is a piece of art or a technique where different materials—such as paper, photographs, fabric, and other objects—are glued or stuck onto a flat surface to create a new composition.

Collage derived from the French verb coller, meaning “to glue,” collage refers to both the technique and the resulting work of art in which fragments of paper and other materials are arranged and glued or otherwise affixed to a supporting surface.
