A sincere thank you to the @americanglassguild , @troymoody , and the @mesaartscenter for making the American Glass Now 2025 exhibit possible. It was an honor to be able to show my work along side so many talented and inspiring glass artists.

My piece is called “Drowning”, and it will be on view as part of the exhibit from May 9 - August 3. Admission is free, and the entire museum is currently showcasing works of glass art in all forms. by @avitoria_vidua

This piece is based upon the sanctuary ring of Durham cathedral. Dating to the 12th C., the ring allowed those who touched it to claim sanctuary - safety from persecution, shelter, and sustenance to sustain them.

This concept of sanctuary was maintained by the church and supported by the law. Hundreds of years later our laws have changed, and our faiths have evolved, but people still seek sanctuary. Do we still hold the courage and conviction to offer it? by @avitoria_vidua

Still recouping from another wild and wonderful @americanglassguild conference.

This year was all about growth and exploration…
1)I served as the American Glass Now chair, and worked with @glassrootsinc to develop and display a wonderful show of amazing glass art
2)Refreshed my chemistry basics
3)Obtained some amazing GREEN stain!! (The picture doesn’t do this justice)
4)And unlocked my first chance to work with another stained glass artist.

I’m excited, I’m mildly terrified, but I’m here for the ADVENTURE!!! by @avitoria_vidua

On his way to Pennsic - without me. For the first time in a long time I won’t be attending this year. Instead I’ll be joining my other glass friends at the @americanglassguild conference in NYC/Newark.

I wish you all safe travels, good weather, and much joy. Wear your sunblock, drink more water, and don’t get lost on your way home from the bog. by @avitoria_vidua

So if you know me, then you know I HATE having my picture taken. I don’t know why, but somehow they just never look like me - at least not the way I think I look. But it turns out that if you have a friend take a picture of you while you’re sweaty, red faced, dirty, your hair is disheveled, and you’re under a table swinging a hammer toward your own face - they turn out just fine! That may in fact be the best picture of me in a long time. Thank @croneofshards

I hope the new table serves you well, and that together you make great things! by @avitoria_vidua

I’ve been finding this app less and less enjoyable. The world is a heavy place right now, and I have less patience and precious little free time. So I’ve been checking in here less often - and it turns out that’s just fine. I’ll still check in, but for now I’d rather use my free minutes to paint. I hope you give yourself some grace, and find yourself some free time to do the things that bring you joy. by @avitoria_vidua

Birka prep continues… by @avitoria_vidua

Samples before and after firing. Greens were a fun surprise! (Though i with i had more of them to sample.) by @avitoria_vidua

Step 1 - cut 50 squares.
Step 2 - arrissed all the squares.

Arrissing the edges helps protect my hands and my brushes, with the added amusement of making the edges sparkly.

I like sparkles. …and repetition. So this task is actually super calming for me. by @avitoria_vidua

Painting is my coping mechanism.
.
The first quick layer based on a Jost Amman sketch from the 1570’s - I’ll eventually add heraldry to the shield, but I’ll put that in when someone decides they want it. I’ll bring this with to Birka if anyone would like to see it in person. by @avitoria_vidua

I hate grinding. The noise, the mess, the expense. So I don’t do it. And you don’t have to either. If you have an old school (cheap) glass cutter you have a grozing iron. Those little notches allow you to nibble away at the glass edge until you get the desired shape. With practice you can control this and easily make almost any shape without a grinder or ring saw. You don’t need more equipment, you just need more practice and some patience. by @avitoria_vidua
