New kid on the block. The 21st FS’s new color jet sending it for Tucson guard drill weekend. Looks sick in my opinion! 4.5.25 | Canon EOS 90D w/ Sigma 150-600mm C ©️Avravalleyaviation 2025 #airplane #aviation #avgeek #air #plane #fighter #jet #fighterjet #f16 #generaldynamics #lockheed #lockheedmartin #viper #f16fightingfalcon #az #arizona #desert #usa #tucson #usaf #airforce #ang #airnationalguard #usairforce #canon #eos #90D #canonphotography #photo #photographer by @avravalleyaviation

LEFTOVERS. Although now closed to the public, the ARM yard across from Davis-Monthan once offered guided tours, which I happily bought in early 2024. Heres some of the most unique stuff in there. Many other small artifacts are around too such as 747 nose cones, KC-97 fuselages, and other random items. If I had to be one to speculate, I’d say the use of the yard in the KC-10 regeneration program is a likely cause for the closing. ©️Avravalleyaviation 2026 | Canon EOS 2000D w/ Canon EF-S 18-135mm by @avravalleyaviation

ACE OF SPADES. Throwback post to when Tucson was graced by a weekend TDY of four AV-8B Harriers from VMA-231 “Ace of Spades” in the winter of 2025. The unit was deactivated later that year and has since been reactivated, now flying the F-35B. Shame the Harrier is gone from US service, the engine whine was one of the best aviation sounds maybe ever! ©️Avravalleyaviation 2026 | Canon EOS 90D w/ Canon EF-S 18-135mm BuNo 165576 was retired that June and ironically resides at the Commemorative Air Force Museum not far north in Mesa, AZ. 165576 “CG-01” also served with VMA-513 which also now flies the F-35B reorganized as VMFAT-502 BuNo 165537 was retired May 13, 2025 and found a new home at the Fort Worth Aviation Museum in Texas. Its first flight was on September 16th, 1985 nearly 40 years to the day before its retirement. Flying with the Spades as CG-02, 165357 saw multiple deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, and logged over 8,000 hours doing so. ON DEATHS DOORSTEPS. Some snapshots from a recent visit to the small but really unique boneyard at Marana Regional Airport. These C-54s and Beech Starships are living on borrowed time and likely don’t have too much left on the clock. A truly disappointing conclusion to some really fascinating stories. ©️Avravalleyaviation 2026 | Canon EOS 90D w/ Canon EF-S 18-200mm by @avravalleyaviation
AFTER-HOURS Some very tricky photos to edit from the 162nd wings night flying this week. Definitely not a fan of shooting low light but I think some of these definitely don’t look too bad! ©️Avravalleyaviation 2026 | Canon EOS 90D w/ Sigma 150-600mm + Canon EF-S 18-200mm by @avravalleyaviation

JAM ON. A somber day today at Davis-Monthan, with the final flight of an EC-130H based here taking place. For more than 40 years the EC-130H provided round the clock electronic warfare capabilities in Yugoslavia, Haiti, Iraq, Panama, Afghanistan, and others in addition to flying over 6900 combat sorties totaling over 40,000 hours in Operation Enduring Freedom and Freedom Sentinel. While not as glamorous (using this word very generously) as the A-10 or as flashy as it the EC-130 still made its mark in the Tucson area and has called DM home for its entire career. A sight that will definitely be missed as the Air Force pivots to the EA-37B Compass Call II to fill the big shoes left by the original Compass Call. To all EC-130H crews, the role this aircraft has played is one that isn’t talked about enough. Thank you for your service and for jamming enemy systems for almost half a century. Tucson will miss you, JAM ON! by @avravalleyaviation
ONWARD AND UPWARD For the first time in more than 20 years, this Thunderbird painted T-28A Trojan has flown!! A very big thank you to the crew for inviting me out to this historic occasion! Looking forward to seeing her around the pattern at Marana! ©️Avravalleyaviation 2026 | Canon EOS 90D by @avravalleyaviation
