A wise old owl lived in an oak (madrona);
The more he saw the less he spoke;
The less he spoke the more he heard:
Why can't we all be like that bird?

In my happy place. It's blacktail season which means a few more layers then when hunting in Maui! by @axis_sustainability

It's the simple things in life. Still riding the highs (and lows) from Idaho. Public land hunting is a whole different breed. Thankful for stunning country, good people, new knowledge, and an incredible experience.

These are the moments. Always longing for early mountain mornings and overwhelmingly grateful for meat blur.

Shout out to @argali_official for the badass tent setup. Absaroka 4p plus full insert held all the gear and my sleep setup during this torrential early season in Idaho. 👌

So many firsts. First elk. First non-resident tag. First public land animal. First solo harvest in big country. First real deal pack out. Words seem superfluous right now.

This may not have been the biggest bull I saw while in Idaho on this hunt, but he's mine, and I am so thankful and proud. To harvest an elk solo with a bow is an incredible experience. Even more grateful for a freezer full of elk meat for the winter to come.

Days like this fundamentally change you as a person. To think two weeks ago I was having a significant surgery to remove an aggressive form of cancer from my face- to this- perspective really is everything. Again, thank you Universe.

Absolutely unreal experience in Idaho. Massive country, rowdy weather, screaming bulls, and all the grit. Coming home with a punched tag on my very first public land animal is the ultimate.

Here's part one of the saga that rocked my world. Feeling unbelievably grateful and humbled.

** Graphic Warning **

Deer Diary,

My face hurts but my elk tag is valid and my French tip is on point. More to come.

Get your skin checked and advocate for your health. Fortunate to be on the mend after having a rare and aggressive form of skin cancer removed from my cheek this past week. It's been quite the year. That Idaho archery elk tag is calling my name though, and I couldn't feel more grateful for the opportunity. Perspective is everything.

I spent the predawn morning enveloped in moonless reverence, the expansive milky way overhead. Slowly, quietly, and deliberately I made my way into the woods, reflecting on time passed and the crowsfeet wrinkles beginning to grace my cheeks. The nightime stillness amplified the vastness of the mountain. You felt so close I could almost reach out to you, your presence tangible. I go to the mountains to share my stories with you, I know you always listen.

On cue, as dawn broke and sunlight glinted through the dew drenched trees, you appeared- a vibrant scarlet cardinal, landing mere feet from me, sharing your morning song and a moment in time. My 'aumakua guardian, always there to protect and support.

It's your birthday today, and I miss you more with each passing year. Words never seem to do justice for the legacy you created. I still reach for the phone to dial your number by heart, to hear your voice one more time. Every time I change the oil in a vehicle, lend a hand to those around me, or navigate a tough situation, I hear you whisper in my ear, atta girl Bina, you got this. The impact you made on my life is exponential and I'm certain I wouldn't be half the woman I am today if not for your infinite wisdom and guidance.

So thanks Dad, for always knowing just what to say and for being such a special human. Anyone who knew you understood what a genuine gift you were. I miss you immensely. Hope you, Halo, Stevie, and the crew are all enjoying some laughs and good company wherever you are in the ethers. I'm sure you all are taking care of each other.

Love you. Miss you. Miss you. Love you. by @axis_sustainability

Things I learned in my 30's

▪️Quality over quantity applies to most things in life.
▪️ You can do hard things, keep moving forward.
▪️Spending time in wild places is always worth it.
▪️Lessons will repeat until you learn from them.
▪️You can't please everyone and that's okay.
▪️ It's ok to allow grief to soften and change you.
▪️ What's meant for you finds a way.
▪️ Being a serial learner takes you to some pretty cool places.
▪️Gratitude over expectations is elemental.
▪️The intersection of grit, resilience, and discipline is the secret sauce.
▪️Taking time for yourself necessary and essential.
▪️ Patience and persistence will take you most places you want to go.
▪️Live your passions, time is fleeting.

Here's to the 4th chapter. I am humbled and grateful. by @axis_sustainability

10/10 times this is probably what I'm daydreaming about.
