2nd generation Arab American. Oil on Canvas All I am Tryna say is that it’s fine to be Americanised. Don’t get stuck in the time period that you immigrated in to America, to protect yourself from westernisation. This leads to suffocating extremism, that no one will keep up with except on the surface. Take the culture that you are in and pick what fits your morals. Take it and do it better! You will always be you! You will always carry your name. You will always prefer the food you grew up eating. You will always feel most comfortable in the clothes you came in. Do it or don’t do it, No body gives a fuck ❤️ by @aylienlife

@irwinhousedetroit ask me if I could help set up for an event Friday. I said yes not even knowing what the event was. I said help my friend and be involved in creativity? WHY NOT Turns out… icons of the city were in attendance and having exciting discussions about the future of the city that has become my home outside the Middle East. Blessed to be here by @aylienlife

Gratitude 🌙 Ever since I moved to the Metro Detroit area, the first place in the U.S. that truly felt like home, I’ve been pouring my heart into art and community. With the largest Arab American population in the country, this area holds a special kind of magic. If I hadn’t gone to my first Detroit Fine Arts Breakfast Club @detroitfineartsbreakfastclub meeting and met the incredible community there (especially @henryc.harper) my path would look very different today. Acting on Gratitude 🎨 I hope to inspire the Dearborn Fine Arts Club and the Arab American/SWANA community to start collecting art from artists within our own circles. Our cultures were built on art like storytelling, calligraphy, textiles, architecture — but colonization didn’t JUST take our lands; it also reshaped our IDEAS. In trying to protect ourselves, we’ve often stayed in survival mode. But here, in Metro Detroit, I see us evolving. I see us reclaiming creativity as a form of healing and resistance. I want us to reconnect with our roots BECAUSE art is our foundation. Takeaway 💫 You don’t need to be rich to collect art. Start small. Support local. Visit the DFAC. Collect pieces that speak to you because it’s more than decoration; it’s legacy and wealth building. #DearbornFineArtsClub #DetroitArtCommunity #ArabAmericanArtists #SWANAArt #SupportLocalArtists #CollectArt by @aylienlife
