The biggest lie in fashion is that your body is the problem.

Off-the-rack clothing is designed for factory efficiency, not human anatomy. That is why almost everything gaps at the waist, pulls at the bust, or hangs like a bag everywhere else.

On Oct 16th at Fabric Forge, White Orchid Academy hosted our first-ever Alterations Clinic. Our students brought in pieces that had been sitting in the back of their closets for months, and learned how to tailor them to their actual frames.

No gatekeeping. No intimidation. Just real garment construction skills, good company, and clothes that finally fit.

Comment "CLINIC" below, and I will send you the early registration link for the next cohort before seats go live.

Over a century ago, Qiaopi carried survival, love, and connection across oceans. A single folded sheet held both the money sent back home and the words keeping families tied together.

This past weekend, we sat down over warm tea with Homelands to step back into that rhythm.

Attendees crafted handmade letters from scratch, hand-stitched their envelopes to honor the blood ties that brought us here, and sealed them in wax. In a world where communication disappears into glass screens in five seconds, holding something tangible carries weight.

When was the last time you wrote or held a handwritten letter you refused to throw away?

Stop settling for garments that just "sort of" fit. 🛑

Off-the-rack sizing wasn't made for your unique body, but you can change that. In our hands-on Alterations Clinic, you won't just learn basic hemming; you’ll master the structural techniques to transform any piece into a custom-tailored staple.

From pinching a shoulder to sewing the perfect dart, you'll get the step-by-step guidance you need to make your wardrobe work for you.

Spots for our next intensive are strictly limited to ensure personalized, expert instruction. Don't wait until it sells out.

Is there someone back home you wish you could write to? A relative you’ve heard stories about but never met?

Join us for tea and a handsewing workshop inspired by qiaopi, letters that connected Chinese migrants with loved ones across oceans. We’ll make handmade envelopes to hold the words, memories, and connections we want to carry forward.

🧵 Free workshop with Annie Chyr. Sign up through the link in our bio ❤️ by @azy.chyr

This pink Squid Game costume was actually kind of cute, but right out of the bag it was hella big, boxy, and frumpy.

Most commercial costumes are drafted as giant rectangles to fit everyone and no one. When you know the proper tailoring sequence, you can turn bagged polyester into a piece you actually wear year-round:

1. Pin all the places we want to take in
2. Mark EVERYTHING with chalk
3. Measure how much to take in on every section
4. Take out the factory seams to chalk your new seam line and add seam allowance
5. The point of no return: cutting!
6. Sew, serge, and PRESS (pressing is crucial)
7. Style your new tailored fit

If you want to learn how to alter your own clothes with me walking you through every single step, come out to our in-person alterations workshop.

Date: October 16th
Time: 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
Spots: Registration closes this Sunday, and only 5 spots are left.

Comment "Clinic" below and I'll DM you the link to register before spots fill up.

I spent the Mid-Autumn Festival @asiasocietytx in Houston running a hands-on table where kids made mooncake pin-cushions.
.
Watching tiny hands figure out needle and thread was precious, but the plot twist was the parents. Halfway through the afternoon, the adults were the ones hunched over the table, refusing to leave until their fabric pleats were symmetrical.
.
While everyone worked on their stuffing, I told the folklore of Chang'e floating to the moon and Hou Yi setting out offerings under the night sky, hoping she would return.
My family roots run Singaporean Chinese and Vietnamese, and growing up as a 3rd-generation tailor, handcraft and heritage always sat at the exact same table.
.
Seeing parents and kids walk away holding something they sewed together in an afternoon made my whole week.
