Highlight of my summer was a day where Quillan and Dana flew into Utah just to spend a few hours doing absolutely nothing together, with nobody else around, simply to reset the nervous system. It happed to be my birthday but that’s beside the point. I am finding that more often than not, less is more. I watch people try to cram as much “fun stuff” into their time with people or in a new place, filling any free time with “we should be doing, seeing, active, go, go, go!”Yes, we should be enthusiastic about getting to experience new things and places but when everything is an itinerary, are we really fully experiencing what a place has to offer if we are just focused on getting onto the next task at hand? I think more people need to slow down and appreciate being alive, breathing, viewing beauty, letting nature simply do its thing. Because like it or not the human body is natural and our nervous systems needs that connection with the natural world to foster healthy brain waves.

Update: 9 months ago I committed to moving somewhere I had never set eyes on, had no connections in (that I knew of), and started a career I had never worked. Why? Because it was time for a new chapter in my life, and starting from scratch was the only way to make that happen.
Looking back I have to say I couldn’t be happier with my decision, even if it has come with some real adjustment. I’m learning what I like and don’t like, both about my new home and about myself. Growth requires discomfort, so it’s time yet again to “get comfortable being uncomfortable”.
I am falling in love with and the sense of community I witness both in the city and in the mountains. Ironically, the strongest connection I have made is with a stranger from the opposite side of the globe. SLC I have come to learn, is an immigration hub and is notorious for its representation of various cultures.
The main thing I have learned from this stage is that “you can’t let the pilot light go out” - be authentic and those who do the same will present themselves. Light inside you will ignite the light in others if you protect it. The only thing that would make this place better is having the people I love around me, but that will come as my circle grows. This is Utah, so far. by @backyardmedic

As the seasons change I can’t help but mourn the amazing memories Vail has blessed me with and the person I used to be throughout the last 11 years. From a punk ass 18 year old kid into a 30 year old punk ass nurse holding it together while navigating life. But it’s time, to turn the page and venture on to explore new zones.
Knowing last season was my last in Vail, I went all out on a lot of my riding. I’m was shown what I’m capable of when I converse with my fears and that motivates me to grow as I step into a new role in my life. My mantra to myself is “get comfortable being uncomfortable” and so far it’s has produced results that I am happy with in myself, that extended into every part of my life. So thank you vail for the last decade, the lessons, memories, and friendships will forever be cherished. I’ll be back.

In honor of the upcoming season here are some clips I got during the 23/24 season to get everything stoked for the snow to fly! 🤘🏽

20 years ago I was 15 years old and mangled my right thigh on a street 8 stair. Today I am 35 and I am gay. I'm going to leave it pride month. 🤙 by @backyardmedic

For it to be my final winter season in Vail it sure did deliver.

This post is for the people in my life and their impact throughout this winter. Going into the season knowing it’s my last I wanted to get a lot of good days in, but with full time school time wasn’t exactly on my side. Instead, the days I did get out carried so much more weight because they were spent with people who have a significant impact in my life. From family to extended family I got to witness people glow and grow! Whether we were pushing limits and exploring new areas in the backcountry or getting quality time in bounds, my heart was full and I cherished the experience together. A large part of what I aim to bring to this life is a perspective that allows people to experience the fruits of the world we live in.

Not everything has to be transactional, structured, or as planned. When we surrender to what each experience will bring, we open ourselves up to a world we didn’t know existed. Trusting things will work out for whatever reason and waiting to find that reason out till the end is a freedom I haven’t known till this past year. And let me tell you my vibration has changed.

So thank you to everyone close to me, thank you for being you and nobody else. Thank you for trusting me and allowing me to show you how I choose to live. This post is only 10 slides so obviously there’s so many more of you than can be consolidated into one post but I love and appreciate you all! by @backyardmedic
