This is my aunt Suzanne. She’s always been one of the healthiest, most active people I know. She’s in her 70s but she’s still even teaching yoga! But cancer doesn’t care. And this is her THIRD bout with it. She’s already had surgery for this cancer, colon cancer, and it was very successful! But now begins the “hard” part — chemo. If you have the means to give, find the link in my bio. Thank you. #cancersurvivor #nyc #cancersucks🎗 taken in New York City by @lapups

Happy premiere day! Today I want to take the opportunity to share how lucky I am to work with such an amazing cast and crew, and to have had the privilege of working on 60 episodes (so far) on this crazy and challenging show. I am so proud of the work we’ve done throughout, and look forward to the next 60…and the 60 after that! Here’s to season 7 of @911onabc by @lapups

Week 8 of the @writersguildwest @wgaeast strike.
.
.
I received this residual check last week for an episode of @911onfox that I wrote in season 5. @911onfox is Fox’s #1 scripted drama. This is why we’re striking.

What the studios don’t realize is that many of us have long, long breaks in work — through no fault of our own — during which we are meant to have residuals to fall back on and fill in the gaps. But residuals and compensation have been quashed by their unfair business practices and callous exploitation of loopholes they have created in our contract.

What the studios don’t realize is we are uniquely equipped to ride this #strike out for as long as it takes. We are used to months upon months without a meaningful paycheck. We are accustomed to being used and abused by the studios.

The ball is in their court. Each day that the strike continues, it is because the #amptp is choosing it. Because the @writersguildwest is going to keep fighting all the way to the bank. ✊🏼🪧 taken in Walt Disney Studios Lot by @lapups

*link in bio!****Hello friends. Whether or not you are in the #Hollywood #FilmIndustry, you may have heard about the negotiations between the #AMPTP and @iatse. I am part of @ialocal871 myself as a #ScriptCoordinator.
Please consider signing this petition in support of IATSE workers, especially if you do not work in the industry! Every signature makes us a little bit stronger in the bargaining room, and together we can do great things!

The employers (Disney, Apple, Netflix, etc.) are contending that they *cannot afford* to pay us a bare minimum living wage, let us have breaks during the day, or stop encroaching on our weekends from both ends. Film workers are EXHAUSTED, myself included. A 12-hour day at a rate commensurate with fast food jobs in a highly skilled position is the norm, never mind the mental and physical costs from these jobs. We need RELIEF and we need it NOW. It is not a secret that these companies have the money to rectify their inhumane business practices. All of the #IATSE locals are gearing up for a vote to *authorize* a strike — this does NOT mean that we will necessarily end up striking. Instead it adds a new chip to tue bargaining table. If you have any questions feel free to reach out! And thank you for your solidarity! #iasolidarity #iareasonablerest by @lapups

The union that I am a part of as a script coordinator, IATSE 871, is currently in negotiations for our next contract but the studios are fighting back hard against our position: all crafts in IATSE deserve a living wage. Here are some surprising stats that highlight the blatant unfairness of the current wage structure:

- 55% of 871 members are rent-burdened (spending >30% of their income on rent)
- The 2020 low income threshold in Los Angeles was $63,100. The following crafts make on average far less:
* Script coordinators: $23,337
* Writers Assistants: $36,481
* Art Dept Coordinator: $28,115
* Assist Production Coordinator: $37,668
- 53% of 871 survey respondents report that they have to take second jobs to make ends meet

Remember: the side effects of low wages manifest themselves on screen and detrimentally affect the talent pool from which the industry can draw. Low wages for skilled crafts (especially those that are considered common stepping stones to jobs like writer) bar people from lower income backgrounds or who can’t rely on their parents from entering and growing in the industry.

If you are someone with any amount of power in the industry, please consider speaking up to your studio, production company, boss, etc. Studios see us as a disposable and easily replaceable resource. But if you have worked with us, you know that we are dedicated to the excellence of the projects we work on and passionate about storytelling, and experts in our field. And the fact is that low wages and long hours are detrimentally affecting our mental and physical health, forcing us to drop out of the industry, and encouraging us to delay meaningful life milestones like buying property, getting married, or starting a family, because we are barely scraping by.
