How Much Tax You Pay on an Inherited IRA: 4 Rules That Matter.

Two beneficiaries can inherit similar balances and end up with very different tax bills.

For some people, inheriting an IRA can feel like a financial windfall. But before you decide what to do with the money, there’s a key question: How much will you actually keep after taxes?

The answer depends on more than the IRA balance. Where you live, your relationship to the person who left you the account, the type of IRA you inherited, and when you take the money out also matter.

That’s why two people can inherit IRAs with the same balance and potentially face different tax bills. One beneficiary may have flexibility over when to take distributions, while another might have to empty the account within a set period. An heir in a state that taxes IRA distributions could owe more than someone in a state that doesn’t.

In this month of giving thanks, I am celebrating family. One of the greatest rewards of raising your children is fostering a close relationship with them and watching them raise their own family. I am so proud of Nicole, my first born, who has poured her heart in to raising Lily and Oliver.

10 Can’t-Miss Tax Breaks for Homeowners and Homebuyers.

These real estate tax breaks can help homeowners get some money back this year. Are you eligible?

Purchasing a home is often considered a significant life milestone, but in today’s housing market, becoming a homeowner can be challenging and expensive.

Fortunately, there are some tax breaks for homeowners (and homebuyers) that might make it a little more afford able.

For instance, the state and local tax (SALT) deduction is worth up to $40,400 for itemizers in tax year 2026. The capital gains tax exclusion allows home sellers to exclude a certain amount of home sale profit from federal income taxes.

Yet while several tax breaks can be complex and not everyone could be eligible for them, they can provide significant tax savings for those who are. Here’s what you need to know.

Social Security Tax Limit Rises for 2027: Who Will Pay More?

A 4.2% higher wage base means more taxes for some earners next year.

You probably know that money is taken out of your paycheck to help fund the Social Security program. But did you know there’s a limit on how much of your income is subject to the tax? That threshold is rising in 2027, which means higher-paid workers could see more money withheld from their paychecks next year.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) just announced a new wage base for 2027 (roughly 4.2% higher than the 2026 tax limit), along with the annual cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for more than 70 million Social Security recipients.

The new 3.6% COLA will boost monthly checks for beneficiaries, while the wage base determines how much of a worker’s income is subject to Social Security payroll taxes.

Also worth noting: These updated numbers come as some lawmakers weigh proposals to shore up Social Security — including whether to eliminate the Social Security tax cap. Here’s more to know.

144 Million Standard Deduction Filers Get a New Charitable Tax Break.

Claiming the standard deduction and donating this year? Here’s what that means for your next tax return.

Budgeting for holiday giving can feel tough in a high-cost economy, but a new tax provision helps your charitable dollars go further this year.

Under the 2025 Trump tax bill, non-itemizers can now claim a tax deduction of up to $1,000 for single filers or $2,000 for married couples filing jointly for qualified cash donations.

Because roughly 90% of U.S. households claim the 2026 standard deduction rather than itemizing, this provision expands tax savings to an estimated 144 million taxpayers, according to data from Empower. However, the new standard-filer tax break carries strict limits.

Below are the primary rules governing the non-itemizer charitable deduction — and how the math shakes out for standard filers who donate in 2026.

Special thanks today to Barry for leaving this thoughtful review on Amazon for the book. These sentiments mean a lot to me after the years it took to bring the book to life!

“Compliments to Bart on writing such a relatable book on defining true wealth. In our culture, individuals sometimes place emphasis and focus on topics that lack substance, but the eight pillars remind us to cultivate meaningful relationships over possessions. I appreciated how his faith in God is woven into the book and is accompanied by personal experiences of challenges, disappointments, and purposeful living.”
