1958 Topps Mickey Mantle. Got this one back from SGC yesterday and I’m very pleased with the grade. I knew it wasn’t going to be a 4 so this is the highest possible grade I hoped it could get. I submitted this one together with a Reggie Jackson RC and a Banks RC. Both cards will be posted the coming week.

Have a great one collectors!! #mickeymantle

1954 Topps Ernie Banks Rookie Card. Bought this one raw and got it graded, very pleased to see it come back as an SGC 1. With the altering of vintage cards in the hobby, there’s quite some risk involved when buying ungraded cards online. Who knows what some idiot has done to it in the 70 years that this card exists? When I started the Banks Topps project I knew his RC was going to be rough. This one isn’t that bad. Yes, it’s off centered and has edge and corner wear like many Banks RC’s have. But it has no major creases and surface wise it’s only that white almost scratch like imperfection that catches the eye. This scratch is actually one I see in this exact location on this card very often, I wonder what’s the deal with that one?

There are little over 7500 Ernie Banks rookie cards graded (by PSA/SGC combined) over the last 70 years. Yes, this will obviously increase as years go by. But this isn’t an insane number in my opinion. At the same time this card will get older and older and Mr. Cub (RIP) can’t change anything about his legendary status. His cards will always hold value, as demand will almost certainly always be higher than supply. The number of 40+ dudes and dudettes collecting vintage will increase as well I think.

My plan for the future is to keep collecting the cards I like. And besides vintage and 80’s, I am drawn more and more towards 00’s and 10’s lately. So maybe I’ll dive into that lane someday. Ichi, Miggy, Pujols, Kershaw, Verlander, Harper, Betts, Trout! Yes, the future Hall of Famers.

For the two of you still reading… Happy collecting my friends! Modern, ultra modern, vintage, whatever… they’re all pictures of dudes in tight pants printed on cardboard! 🤟🏼

1954 Topps Jackie Robinson. A decently centered card with little creasing around the corners. This is a 1.5 you don’t see that often! On this day in 1947, september 17th, Robinson was named NL Rookie of the Year.

Jackie Robinson wasn’t just a ballplayer—he was a trailblazer. In 1947, he broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers, changing the game and American history forever. A six-time All-Star, 1949 NL MVP, and World Series champion, Robinson’s courage and excellence paved the way for generations of athletes.

This particular card, the 1954 Topps Jackie Robinson number 10 card, captures him in the middle of his legendary career. The ’54 Topps set is famous for its bold colors and dual-image design, with a portrait alongside an action shot. Robinson’s card stands out not only for its vibrant artwork but also because it was printed during one of his peak seasons—he hit .311 that year and remained a central figure for the Dodgers.
Today, this card is more than a collectible—it’s a reminder of Robinson’s impact both on the diamond and far beyond it. A symbol of resilience, progress, and the unifying power of sports.

1955 Topps Hank Aaron. Aaron was one of the greatest ballplayers of the 50’s and 60’s, a top-5 all time slugger on my list. But his cards run is not a great one. Ofcourse this is just my opinion, but he does not have many great looking images on his cards. This one is the best looking card of his run, again… Just my opinion.

So we have one of the best hitters to ever play baseball in one of the best sets of all time with probably his best looking image and artwork on it. Yes! Absolutely love this addition!

1951 Bowman Roy Campanella. What a card! Crossed this one over from a PSA 4. Campy deserves a tux!

Widely considered by vintage collectors to be one of the most beautiful baseballcards in existence, this card has a lot to unpack, which certainly qualifies as a work of art. Sure, the 1951 Bowman Mickey Mantle is better known, but this card aesthetically has more going for it. First, the 1951 Bowman Roy Campanella pays tribute to the ancient and beautiful tradition of catchers taking off their masks to catch a popup. Second, look at how painstakingly the artist recreates the look of concentration on Roy’s face. It could not be more convincing. Finally, one fan in the stands is seemingly unimpressed with Roy Campanella’s efforts.

The scene evokes Edward Hopper at his best, showing the tremendous distance between the crowd and the action. Whether this was intended or not, the card is devastatingly meaningful and I am more than happy to add this beauty to my collection. Thanks @maikards and thanks @sbensisleeves

1969 Topps Reggie Jackson RC. A well centered SGC 4 is generally speaking a very nice looking card, if it’s vintage that is. This one got a few extra points on centering I assume as it has great overall eye appeal. Very happy with this grade.

As far as grading goes, there’s only one reason I grade very few of my cards and that’s to preserve and showcase them. I prefer @sgcgrading as the slabs are unprecedented in my opinion. Who doesn’t look good in a black tux!?

1953 Topps Monte Irvin. Want to hear something awesome? This card was given to me by @tuxedoslabcollector

About a month or so ago Tim reached out to me on Instagram, telling me how he got back into the hobby for various reasons. Turns out he was an American living here in The Netherlands not too far from me and we share a common interest in vintage cards and the stories and nostalgia behind them. Not just hoarding cards, but collecting. Curating even maybe. Behind every card he buys there is a feeling and a story.

I told him that he should start posting some of his collection to share and also connect with people. And I introduced him to the Dutch MLB collectors community. Nothing crazy really. After all, he is a great addition to the community with a great collection and passion you can just feel when reading his posts.

Then last week he sent me a message, showing me this card that I told him about and how it was on my wishlist. I told him some interesting facts and stories about Monte Irvin. How much respect I have for this man, Irvin was more than baseball. But after looking at his collection and looking at mine I was in doubt… Did I even have the cards he might be interested in to conclude in a trade? I showed him some cards and he just said; No man, I am gifting you this card! As a thank you for introducing me and inspiring me to post on Instagram.

A gesture that is absolutely awesome, but I felt wasn’t neccesary. So I tried one more time to make it a trade but Tim wasn’t having it.

So yesterday we met at a terrace here in Amsterdam and he gave me this absolute stunner of a card. One that instantly is one of my favorite cards in my collection. Thanks again Tim! Very very very much appreciated!

Go follow @tuxedoslabcollector His collection and write ups are excellent, so you will not be disappointed I am positive!

1962 Topps Ernie Banks. This was the first Ernie Banks card I collected and it is still one of my favorite cards of his playing days. For the player run, I also have this card ungraded.

In my opinion you can’t go wrong with any of the stars who appear in this set. Great photography combined with a classic design and loaded with hall of famers, this set is very collectible. The easy to damage wood grain borders make this set pretty tough condition wise, so a 6.5 is actually a pretty decent grade. This one is sharp all around and if it wasn’t for that slight miscut on top, this one might have gotten an even better grade.

1957 Topps Frank Robinson RC. Just got this one in for the player run! I was looking for a higher grade but came across this one and realized this one was perfect for my means.

Robinson’s stats and accolades are absolutely mind blowing! Besides hitting almost 3000 hits, his 586 homeruns and 1812 RBI’s would have been enough for him to be a top 15 slugger all time. But look at this…

- 14x All Star
- 2x WS winner
- 2x MVP (first ever in both NL and AL)
- WS MVP
- Rookie of the year
- AL batting leader, HR leader and RBI leader
- Triple Crown!

To top it off… AL manager of the year. Oh and wait, he chipped in over 200 stolen bases for good measure.

Legend!

2018 Topps On Demand Juan Soto RC. This set, with a checklist of 35, was an online exclusive only available as a complete set. The set only has 4 different parallels, the base is called Black & White:

- Sepia (serial-numbered to 60 copies)
- Background (serial-numbered to 25 copies)
- Full Player (serial-numbered to ten)
- Full Color (one-of-one)

In addition, every other box included an autograph.

With only 1666 total sets produced, it is gaining momentum in the hobby. Printruns like this are so far off from what we are seeing nowadays. Just a beautiful card you don’t see in every collection. A Juan Soto Rookie with a limited printrun, that looks amazing in SGC? This is the one!

2022 Topps Black & White Julio Rodriguez RC. Yes I am a vintage lover and my main focus will always be vintage cards. Maybe that’s why black and white looks so cool in my collection? They simply look amazing, the photography exceeds Stadium Club on many cards in my opinion. This one pairs perfectly with my Juan Soto On Demand B&W and in the future I might chase that Ohtani as well.

Some big vintage cards coming in soon! Keep collecting my friends 🤟🏼
