What if an audition could give you more than a yes or no? ✨ For bassoonist Xayvion Davidson, returning to SOPA meant another chance to sharpen excerpts, receive meaningful feedback, and connect with orchestras in a setting where the stakes feel very different from a traditional audition. His first SOPA experience even led to substitute work with the Kalamazoo Symphony, while the feedback he received helped shape how he approaches repertoire from Mozart to Tchaikovsky. As Xayvion puts it, at best you leave with an opportunity, and at worst, you leave knowing more than you did before. 📑 Applications for the 2027 Sphinx Orchestral Partners Auditions are due October 2, 2026. 💬 Comment SOPA and we’ll send you everything you need to apply! #SOPA #SphinxOrganization #OrchestralAuditions #Bassoon #ClassicalMusic by @bassoonboi_xd
First audition list ever. First time stepping on a stage like this. For bassoonist Xayvion Davidson, SOPA was more than excerpts — it was about building confidence, making connections, and dreaming big about creating youth orchestras that inspire more diverse audiences and performers. ✨ “SOPA forced me to examine every part of my playing. It gave me the space to grow without the fear of failing.” 💬 Comment SOPA to apply 🔗 Apps close Oct 6 #SphinxSOPA #OrchestraTok #Bassoon by @bassoonboi_xd
I am grateful to Dr. Rena Kraut, as well as all other moving parts in @cayomusic. The things I saw, the stories I heard, the people I met, the food I ate, and the lessons I learned were all things that can never be forgotten. It is hard to articulate my experiences and the emotions that came with them in depth, but if I had to use a few words to describe it all, the words would be real and undeniable. From the joyous moments to the more sorrowful ones that I saw amongst the bit of Havana I explored, it was all undeniable and very real, which made the trip impactful. If you ever go to Cuba and it is on your heart to donate something, just know that ANYTHING helps. (Reeds/reed tools, medicine, crayons, food, pencils, clothes, phones, instruments, books, shoes, music stands, instrument stands, ANYTHING) by @bassoonboi_xd

I am pleased to announce I was on NPR yesterday to talk about being black in classical music. I have to thank Ms. Meg Boyle, Ms. Paige Pfleger, Mr. Khalil Ekulona, my dad, and everyone else who made my first time on the radio a great experience. The conversation was incredible and worth a listen, so I will put the link in my bio for any interested ears. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Bruce Ayers and Ms. Ashley Crawford who founded and is the President the Nashville African American Wind Symphony, respectively. For those of you in Nashville, their debut concert is THIS Sunday, June 19th (Juneteenth), at 4 PM CT at Belmont University. Come through if you can. I also had the privilege of meeting Ms. Margaret Campelle-Holman, who gave a fantastic history lesson on Nashville and classical music's influence on African American music. I am proud to say I am going to Rice University for the next for years to major in Bassoon Performance. I am grateful, incredibly humbled, and extremely excited to have been given such a wonderful opportunity. I have to thank God first and foremost, my parents, my teachers, a friend quite near and dear to my heart, and everyone else who has helped me get to where I am today as both a bassoonist and a person. I truly could not have done this without you so thank you!! 🍚 #ricebound #shepherdschool #bassoonist #rice #riceuniversity #rice'26 by @bassoonboi_xd
