I had the huge honour of presenting Nigel with his purple belt yesterday.

Nigel has been a member of our club for over 7 years now, regularly attending our classes with his son Michael. He is without a doubt one of the friendliest and helpful people you are ever likely to meet, and regularly volunteers his time to share his knowledge with beginners and make them feel welcome at the club. He has developed a well rounded Jiu-Jitsu style with a dangerous guard and is a wealth of judo knowledge. He somehow also seems to get younger as the years tick by.

This was a very special promotion for me celebrating 30 years on the mat this week, and I couldn't have chosen a more deserving person to promote.

Congratulations Nigel and keep up the awesome effort!!! by @baysidebjj

30 years of Jiu-Jitsu today. 🥋

I started training with Peter de Been in 1996, first began teaching in 1997, earned my black belt in 2010 and opened Bayside BJJ in 2016.

Looking back through these photos brings home how many people have been part of those 30 years.

The instructors who shared their knowledge. The training partners who challenged me and helped me improve. The students who trusted me to guide them. The friends and family who supported me along the way.

Thank you to all of you!

Jiu-Jitsu has given me friendships, challenges, plenty of hard lessons and the opportunity to build a club where I get to share something I love.

Helping someone understand a technique, watching their confidence grow and seeing them enjoy being part of the club continue to make teaching so rewarding to me.

To everyone at Bayside BJJ, past and present: thank you for being part of this. I am so proud of the community we’ve built together.

Thirty years on, there’s still plenty to learn and plenty to enjoy.

See you on the mats very soon!!! by @baysidebjj

825 competition medals recorded on Smoothcomp! 🥇🥈🥉

Behind that number are years of training, tough rounds, nerves before the first match and lessons brought back to the gym.

We’re proud of our kids and adults who step onto the competition mats and represent Bayside. A big thank you to the training partners, coaches and families who support them along the way. These achievements are a team effort.

Competition is always optional at Bayside. Whether you’re chasing a podium finish, building confidence or simply enjoying training with good people, there’s a place for you on our mats. by @baysidebjj

Two competitors representing Bayside at the Pan Pacific Championships, and plenty to be proud of! 🥋

🥇🥈 Liam won his division and took second in the absolute, finishing the day with gold and silver. An incredible result!

Nick put in a huge effort in an epic first-round match. He attacked with multiple submission attempts and spent the final 30 seconds working for a triangle. He went down on points, pushing for the finish right to the end as he always does!

Well done, Liam and Nick. Proud of the effort you both put in and to have you representing Bayside! 👏 by @baysidebjj

Some sick photos from FFC 13.

Thank you to all my sponsors and all my coaches @baysidebjj and @alex_pookie and all those who came to support and cheer me on.

Sadly walked away this time with a loss after an incredible match with Odin but keeping my head high and will be back soon @fusionfightingchampionship by @baysidebjj

It wasn't the result we were hoping for, but what a match! It was a crazy leg lock shoot out from beginning to end and a big congratulations goes out to @odinottera on weathering the storm and coming away with the win!

I was so proud of Sergej with the way he conducted himself throughout the event. He almost secured an early finish with his very own patented 'Sergej Lock' and put his heart and soul into putting on a very exciting match for the audience. I have absolutely no doubt that he will be back again better than ever before!!! by @baysidebjj
