This painting of artichokes, garlic and asparagus is a recent commission for a collector's daughter's birthday present.
Their family had a tradition of preparing his mother's artichokes recipe for family meals. She also owned a painting they all love of artichokes .
I was honored to be asked to paint something that reminds someone of their happy family memories.
Thank you @andersonfineartgallery for introducing my work to your discerning collector.

Last Saturday’s gallery opening at Patricia Hutton was a lot of fun. Getting to meet with new and familiar collectors was a great way to kick off the show. When you are in your studio for days, weeks and months getting ready for a show you never know how it will be received. So pleased to say there were a couple of 🔴 red dots on the wall. by @andersonfineartgallery

Have you ever spent many months on a project, whether it be paintings for a show or any other endeavor anticipating how your work will be received?
The last six months I have worked on paintings for the Two Women. Two Visions show at Patricia Hutton Galleries in Doylestown, PA.
Today, May 9th at 4pm the show will open. Myself, Patricia and Janine Dunn Wade, my co-artist will be there to greet guests.
I hope if you are in the area you will stop by to say hello.

Varnishing a painting is the last thing you do before framing. I use Gamvar Varnish, but before applying the varnish I use a lint roller and a dry brush to be sure there is no dust. When done varnishing, I make sure the varnish is applied evenly by moving it around under a good light source.
I include a couple of shots of my progress. The painting is developed from a line drawing, then a light layer of pigment before getting into actually painting each form one at a time.
In this painting, I started by painting the purple Stock flowers because they seemed the most likely to fade first. Then the Hydrangea, since they also fade fast and the background, table and ginger jar for context of value. The final thing I paint is decorative blue design on the pot.

I've become a orchid junky, and now that we spend time in Florida, I've started to add to my collection. This white phaleanopsis orchid was re-blooming when we got back this past winter. In that climate, you just leave them outside and they rebloom. I've even tied some to trees, they attached themselve and rebloom. It is very cool.
I can see that I will be painting a lot more in the future. There are so many colors and varieties and the blooms last quite a long time making easier to paint from life. White phaleanopsis orchid are often associated with hope, purity, innocence and new beginnings. Definitely, something we to keep around us.
This Hope Orchid painting is 12 x 20" and part of the Two Women show @patriciahuttongalleries

I’m not one to put myself in front of a camera, but after six months of getting ready for the Two Women. Two Visions show at Patricia Hutton Galleries, @patriciahuttongalleries this Sunday I delivered all 14 new paintings to the gallery. I thought it would be fun to document my delivery and Patricia's reaction to one of these paintings. Come visit us this Saturday, May 9, between 5 and 7pm for the opening reception.
