If you’re gonna spill the tea, do so quietly 😂 I loved the small nod to Jean-Ralphio (@rejectedjokes character on Parks and Rec) in the Sonic 2 film! Had me chuckling in the theater!

How do you say goodbye to someone who meant so much to you, especially when they had always been larger than life itself and you expected them to live forever? Hot take…you can’t. At least not all at once. We just have to say goodbye a little at a time by choosing to remember the moments with them and taking account of how your life was changed by having them in it.

Today we publicly said goodbye to @shef.stew . I wear this pin in honor of him and his fellow servicemen. I enjoyed hearing stories of his bravery, loyalty, and one of kind sense of humor, and I loved getting to see all the photos of him with family and friends. But I will be saying goodbye over and over until we meet again someday.

I miss you too, homie. by @beautifully_radiant29

Today as I try to gather my thoughts in preparation of the visitation for Travis @shef.stew , I spent some time revisiting photos of him. I was reminded of that quirky side-eye smile he would give, sometimes when he was being sneaky, clever, or when he thought he had won some sort of intellectual battle. I also remember the shocking look he would give when he realized he had actually been defeated in said friendly banter. @justtherealeryn and I, his “McGangsters” as he affectionately called us, were never bored when he was around. He filled every second with laughter and his antics.

Although we did not see each other often after he joined the Marines or even upon his return to civilian life (as both of us had a family by then), our friendship was deeply rooted, and I never questioned if it would last the remainder of our lives. He was the brother we never had, and I knew he would have my back 100%, as I would his. Travis reached out to me when he knew that we were walking through a season of grief and loss. He was so good at voicing his feelings and was able to set aside that macho-sarcastic persona to let you know that he saw you and truly cared. I appreciated his kind words and prayers for me and my family.

Through the tears, today I am trying to be thankful for his friendship; I am so grateful to have known him these last 13 years. Travis made life more interesting, fun, and fantastical. He was a true blessing and will always be a part of me.

While the world lost another one of the good ones on Saturday, I lost a dear friend, someone I consider a brother. Travis cared for those he loved and served our country well. He was a committed husband and father. But to me, he was one of the most deeply feeling, inquisitive, bullheaded, quick witted, loyal, faith-filled, and brave people I know. He challenged me in so many ways, but we could also have the most fun goofing around.

Our friendship began at Six Flags (see image from 2010), which quickly became one of our usual hangouts. So today I took my family to the place we had had so many laughs and utilized his method of “Arms of Fury” 🤣 For those who knew him, life will never quite be as interesting. I will miss him dearly.

Until the next Sheffield-McGrath-Callahan liaison, Travis. Oh, I’m curious…did your magnetic personality set of the detectors at the gates of heaven?! @shef.stew @justtherealeryn by @beautifully_radiant29

I’ve never observed Lent before. I hadn’t even heard of it until I was in college, as it was neither a part of my family’s traditions nor customary in the churches I grew up in, and only recently has the idea of fasting grabbed my attention. Nevertheless, as I and my family are walking through a season of grieving, developing a theology of suffering has become not only more relevant to me but has helped greatly in the deepening of my understanding of and love for Christ.

About two weeks ago, I sat down to write our story of the last five months, at least what we have of it thus far. The Lord had impressed upon me the idea, as we had chosen to keep it a private matter except for with close family and friends. Along the way, I have discovered more than ever that we are not in control of our lives, even what takes place within our own bodies, but he is truly sovereign and has all authority. That came in the form of a strong dose of humility, coupled with the freedom found in relinquishing my will to his. And so, when he nudged me to share the journey that he has been taking me on, I obeyed. However, what I thought was going to be a brief post for social media is turning into a full-blown novel. I am nowhere near the end of the story and already have nine typed pages! Then today, upon realizing that it was Ash Wednesday, the start of Lent, I suddenly knew that I am supposed to be writing two separate versions of the story: the brief one contained here and the much longer, detailed one that will continue to be written as the Spirit leads me and possibly shared at some point in the future. So here is the synopsis of the ever-developing story of how God is loving me through loss…see comments for the rest… by @beautifully_radiant29
