POSTS STORIES REELS

Two Sundays after, and these particular words from the previous sermon still ring loudly in my ears. Weird enough, I don't even remember the topic offhand.

The words:

Because God has directed you towards a certain path, destination, purpose or even someone doesn't mean it's suddenly going to be trouble-free. No.

However, you have the assurance that He who led you in that direction will not leave you halfway. Whatever difficulties may arise, because they definitely will, God is already there, making a way and softening things along the way.

This is for me and others who have a sense of purpose towards something, yet still find ourselves wondering why we're experiencing all these series of sheges. Abi, did I hear it wrong?? Nah.

Do we remember the story of Joseph? Joseph the dreamer? The one with the coat of many colours? The one sold by his brothers, who then lied to their father that he was dead? The one framed by Potiphar's wife?

All these happened despite God's plans and purpose for his life. He still went through several unpleasant experiences before eventually becoming the second-in-command in Egypt.

Anyways, all I'm saying is, there's no gold without passing through the fire. No beautiful flowers without thorns. No pottery without clay. No gain without pain.

We just have to believe, persevere, trust and have faith that if He has said it, then He will do it.

Happy November, beautiful people! 💜

May this month be trouble-free, casualty-free and filled with blessings. May we find the strength to keep going, even when the journey doesn't look anything like what we imagined🥂🌸

P.S. There's this rare gem showing on Omoni Oboli TV. It's titled The Love Clause. Apparently, it's filled with all the necessary ingredients that make a movie stick with you long after the credits roll.

For as long as I can remember, I've always felt bothered whenever people say life is not a bed of roses. Maybe I wouldn't have been so bothered if I hadn't seen one in my telenovelas days, and that one soap opera really did a number of things about my bed of roses perspective, both towards love and life.

Earlier this year, I made a post about it. Fast-forward to July/August, I had the opportunity to make this analogy reach a bigger audience and it's blissful to see people relate with it, just like I did years ago.

The Love Clause is showing on Omoni Oboli Tv🌸

Don't ask me how are you?, if you can't handle how much of what I'm feeling.
Don't ask me what's up, 'cause I'll spill way beyond what's up.
Don't ask me how's life treating me, 'cause I'll honestly tell you the good, the bad and the ugly.

'Cause all I've got in me to spill is the truth.
And if that's too much to handle, don't ask me what's my deal.

I used to pride myself on not being an emotional person. In fact, I bagged a couple of nicknames back in school: Ice Queen, cold-hearted, unapproachable, and quite a number of other not so cute names.

Until three years ago.

It almost felt like the universe was teaching me a lesson. So many things happened at once, and for a while, I questioned my existence. I wondered, Why?!?

This isn't a story I've ever been comfortable sharing, and no, I'm not about to share it either.

But now, I feel everything there is to feel. Sometimes, I hate it. Other days, I welcome it.

You'd probably think whatever happened was supposed to harden my heart even more. But strangely, it did the opposite. It made me realise how nothing is ever really as it seems.

Life is fleeting. You just never know when it's your turn to fly, or when you'll have to stand there and watch someone or something you care about do the flying.

And no, I'm not talking only about going six feet under. Sometimes, loss is also about losing a part of yourself while you're still here.

And perhaps that's why I feel everything now.
Because I know how quickly everything can change.

Two weeks ago, or thereabout, I was holed up in my room for days. The farthest I went was the living room. I felt exhausted and completely out of it. At some point, I could literally feel myself sinking, and yet I had no urge to get out of my room.
On that particular day, there had been no light all day. My phone was almost dead, and my power bank was barely holding on. My dad called me and asked me to at least come out of my room. I refused.
There was so much dancing around in my head. Thoughts I probably shouldn't have been entertaining, but I was too tired to do anything about them. So, I just let them be.
They brought the light around midnight. I plugged in my stuff and still left myself in that darkness.
Then, I started having a conversation with myself.
Weird? Duh. I'm a writer. Weirdo is one of our personalities.
Anyway, somewhere in that conversation, I came to a conclusion: I didn't come this far in finding my glow just to allow a few setbacks pull me back into the hole I barely crawled out of.
So the next morning, despite the tiredness and whatever dark cloud was hovering over me, I got up. I dressed up. I stepped outside. I listened to music. I watched people go about their daily lives while creating random scenarios about them in my head because, well...writer.
I went back home, and somehow, I felt lighter.
Why this TED Talk that you probably think doesn't concern you?
Well, I'm saying this because there will always be dark, grumpy, sad and just plain ugly days like the one I described. There will be days when getting out of bed feels like a task and days when you don't even have the energy to fight whatever is going on in your head.
But please, don't let the darkness dim your light.
It won't always be easy, but make a conscious effort to find your way back to yourself. Put on that smile, step outside, listen to your favourite song, take a walk, sit somewhere and watch people live their lives. Do whatever small thing reminds you that there is still life beyond whatever storm you're currently in.
Because life goes on regardless. And you don't want to spend your days dining with darkness when you can choose, even if only for a moment, to breathe easy by @beccaispearl

Woke up this morning, and all I could think about was you... Been a while since we spoke. I still see you, not as often but I do see you. Just that we don't talk as much. And I've been telling God, I miss your voice. I miss your touch. I miss your comfort. I wish he could let me experience all of those even if it'll be a dream. Better a dream than nothing at all.

It'll be three years soon, sometimes I lost count cause I can't believe it's that long already. I close my eyes and it genuinely feels like yesterday. I've been having a lot of moments where I avoid thinking about your last moments because I find myself asking questions I never get answers too and I hate it. I hate that I don't have answers to the questions in my head, so I avoid thinking about it.
I'm sorry.

It's been almost three years, but I can't bring myself to think or talk about you in the past tense. It feels like a disrespect to you because I feel you'd come back to me anytime soon.

It's been almost three years, but I still avoid visiting that place where you were laid to rest. It makes your absence real and it hammers home the fact that I may never get to see you again. That I may never hear your voice again. That I may never get to be comforted by you again. And I hate it so much.

And I'm scared, I'm so scared that five years from now, I'll remember your voice a little less clearly. That ten years from now, I'll struggle to remember exactly what your touch felt like.
So scared that fifteen years from now, I'll have to search my memory for the sound of your laugh. That twenty years from now, I'll remember that you made me feel safe, but I won't remember exactly what that safety felt like.

I'm scared of forgetting the little things. The things I don't have photographs for. The things nobody else can remember for me. Things like your voice, your touch, your warmth and your comfort.
The things that made you, you to me. And maybe that's why I keep holding on so tightly. Because I don't want time to take you from me a second time.

Surround yourself with people who are willing to blow your trumpet and ginger your spirit on the days you're too tired to ignite your own fire.
Because sometimes, it gets lonely when you're your only cheerleader.

But then!!!!! Rate yourself like mad!!

Even when you're down, know for sure that it's just a moment and you'll definitely bounce back.

So either way, always have your own back.
Celebrate yourself. Encourage yourself. Remind yourself who you are.

You need people who will cheer for you, but you also need to be able to cheer for yourself 💜✨
