The POLAR PLUNGE ๐Ÿฅถ A once in a lifetime opportunity to jump off a perfectly good ship into Antarctica's icy waters of the Southern Ocean. Swipe to see my post jump face ๐Ÿ˜‚ About 50 of the guests made the leap, some keen beans like me and others not so sure, but they still did it. I don't remember it feeling cold, probably because I was so excited. But I remember a feint salty taste as ocean and glacier water combines. Then just as I was ready to go for an extended swim, the safety rope around my waste tightened and I was pulled in. The harness is a safety feature or maybe it's to stop people like me swimming away! The moment I exited the water, the lovely @sofiverdeazul was there with a big towel, but I wasn't cold. My body had that wonderful tingly feeling and I wanted to jump again. Instead, I headed to the mini disco with @antarcticaguy handing out shots of bourbon (in fact, drinking that was worse than jumping). Then headed up on next to watch everyone else jump. What a fantastic start to my Antarctic Adventure aboard the G Expedition @g_expedition with @gadventures Photo credit: All photos @aris.apos #Antarctica #antarcticpeninsula #polarplunge #antarctic #antarcticadventure by @beckythetraveller
Snow day!!!! Oh my goodness, you can imagine my excitement waking up to so much snow this morning, I absolutely loved it! From such a high the day didn't go in the direction I'd planned. If you saw my insta story you'll see I had foot trouble so I made the decision to hop on a bus and accept a kind offer for a bed for the night! I've now had a lovely bath, fab dinner and again I'm drying kit in front of a fire. Pennine Way, it's never a dull moment ๐Ÿคฃ #Pennineway #gregshut #bothy #bothying #hiking #adventures #outside #snow #ukhikers #outfitoftheday #wintercamping by @beckythetraveller

Piton des Neiges (3,070 metres) What is the best way to experience a mountain summit... At sunrise, of course ๐Ÿ˜‰ The day before, we had hiked up to the Mountain Gite in preparation for our summit day. 03.20 the alarm went off (although most people were already awake) and at 03.45 we set off hiking to the highest point on Reunion Island ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡ช There were plenty of photo stops as the night sky slowly gave way to the first hints of daylight, such a magical time of day. Then we reached the top in time to watch the sunrise over this incredible island. And those colours don't disappoint, vibrant oranges then in the opposite direction those gorgeous pink and purples that are equally beautiful ๐Ÿ˜ Are you tempted to add this to your adventure list? #PitonDesNeiges #ReunionIsland #SunriseHike #Mountain #Adventure by @beckythetraveller
Rest day hike.... Mid-way through the trip, we had a day off to chill, eat and explore more. Our guide Gilles had told us about a beautiful hike to La Chapelle. It sounded too good to miss, so along with 3 others we donned hiking gear, grabbed a picnic and set off for the day. After a 5 km hike descending through luscious rainforests, rocky trails and rugged landscape, we reached the river. We began wading through knee-deep water then scrambled over huge rocks to reach the most magnificent sight ๐Ÿ˜ La Chapelle is named so, as it's a natures cathedral, with towering walls of striated volcanic rock rising around 100 metres, complete with a huge boulder wedged in the gap above! Eek, don't look up. We then left our bags and swapped into swimwear for the final section, wading through chest-high icy water (swimming is an option but I had my phone with me) Right at the back of the was a natural pool complete with waterfall... perfect for a proper swim! The scale, the rock formations and colours, sunlight creeping through the gap (which only happens for a short period of time each day) and the sheer beauty of the place is hard to capture. I guess you'll just have to go ๐Ÿ˜‰ #ReunionIsland #LaChapelle #Cilaos #HikingAdventures #gorge by @beckythetraveller
Swim spot at last ๐Ÿ˜ Day 3 + 4 was full of ups and downs. Day 3 bagging our most ascent in a day at 1700 metres and day 4 reaching the highest point of the trek at 2100 metres, (so far), between the pass before we descended to the town of Cilaos. And after all those miles, and a short distance from the end of the day we came across the most incredible swim spot, nestled in the valley called Bras Rouge Cascade. The majority of us jumped straight into the cool emerald waters (most of in our underwear or hiking clothes - which was desperate for a good wash!) The feeling was incredible, the best cure for tired and aching legs. Also, a chance to simply float and gaze up at the clouds passing overhead. Would you have gone for a dip? ๐Ÿค” #brasrougewaterfall #reunionisland #ciloas #hiking #adventures Trip with @muchbetteradventures by @beckythetraveller
Sorry, yet more incredible scenery in Reunion Island...and this is only day 2. We continued hiking deep into the island exploring the Cirque de Mafate via the GRR2 route, a part of the island only accessible by foot or helicopter. The morning began with cuddles from Nectarine the dog, as our guide briefed us on what to expect for the day. Then we left our little village to hike down through Jurassic Park esq scenery, huge bamboo trees and incredible mountain peaks scaling high above. In terms of distance it was 15 km but with plenty of ascent, tricky terrain and an unexpected long lunch stop the day took a lot longer than we all thought. We climbed high, then did a mini detour to an incredible viewpoint, descended to dodge a horned cow which refused (or couldn't) move then across a wide metal bridge across the valley. It was another steep uphill to reach our Mountain Gite, luckily we all got the bottom bunks so no more climbing until tomorrow! #muchbetteradventures #reunionisland #hikingadventures #adventureholiday Trip with @muchbetteradventures by @beckythetraveller
The trail begins... ๐Ÿฅพ๐ŸŒด Day 1 hiking across the incredible island of Rรฉunion, located in the southwestern Indian Ocean. Around 40% of this spectacular island is covered by Rรฉunion National Park, with its breathtaking landscapes recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. So, what's not to love? After breakfast in the capital, Saint-Denis, we drove along some of the wiggliest roads to reach our trailhead. We spent the first half of the hike descending to the valley, before stopping for lunch and swapping our hiking boots for sandals to cross the Riviere des Galets in five places. Then it was time for almost 1,000 metres of ascent to reach our first mountain gรฎte in Aurere! We were treated to amazing solar powered hot showers then visited the local bar for a post-hike beer. Did I have a good weekend??? YES, YES, YES!!!! The most lovable, huggiest, friendliest festival and weekend of the year. It can only be YESTIVAL @campyestival ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฉต I rocked up to Big Sky on Wednesday to help get the site festival ready for all the lovely, incredible human beings arriving on Friday. Then it was full on wonderful, inspiring and emotional talks, catching up with old friends and making new ones. This year I also did a talk on the Yes Bus and Barn about my Antarctic trip, talking about some of my epic experiences plus the behind the scenes too. I loved it and thank you so much for everyone that came to listen ๐Ÿฅฐ After the talks, on Saturday night we danced until the sun came up then headed to the local river for a dip to end the weekend in the best way. My heart is glowing, my head is full of a million ideas and I can't wait for Yestival 2027! Huge shout out to Dave @davecorn and Ems @emkarembo for making this happen. We are all incredibly grateful ๐Ÿ’› And if you fancy a cool camping location with alpacas... check out Big Sky Hideaway @bigskyoasis Pic 1 & 15 @spikereid , pic 3 @andrewsmithson, pic 13 & 14 @becksterwoods, pic 17 @gedstaxi by @beckythetraveller
