As I was essentially developing a company by building lots of hype and some excitement through my different worls i decided to make a website to show everyone what my company is all about. So i made a poster, enticing people to find out and follow the qr code. It linked to a webpage that acted as one of those terms and services pages you get when you go onto a website. In order to get to my main website you had to agree to my conditions. Some of them included; By signing up to a membership with us you agree to assign your first born child to us for the duration of eternity.  None of the terms outlined on this webpage are legally binding or will affect you in your real day to day life, but if you want access to us, you have no other choice than to agree to the above terms. In the event that there is an occurrence of a widespread viral infection transmitted via bites or contact with bodily fluids that causes human corpses to reanimate and seek to consume living human flesh, blood, brain or nerve tissue and is likely to result in the fall of organized civilisation, these terms will no longer apply, this is the only case where these terms will be canceled and your information relinquished.  Once pressing accept you were lead to whats on the final slide. Nothing, you gave away alot of rights to my company just so you could see what you could find out about us, and it was all for nothing. Was questioning the tranasctional relationship we have with companies when all we want to do is browse, but now you have to give up your first born just to look? Also thinking about corporate/legal language and how its written in a way for you to not completely understand and just scroll through and accept, without knowing what youve given up. I wanted to illustrate the point of creating a recognisable brand when the logo communicates nothing, as the logo is meant to carry the brand identity. I used rhetorical language as my logo as this is how many companies act as if you should know who is marketing a product just from their logo. An example is Cadbury. They have trademarked an entire colour, 550F9D, associated with their brand.  I chose a mug as I feel many companies add their logo to products to promote themselves, even if their company has nothing to do with making hot drinks. I chose Helvetica Regular as my font, as this is the most ‘plain and boring’ according to my VCD peers.  I wanted to point out the absurdity of being so passionate about promoting and branding your company that you will add a logo to anything, regardless if it has nothing to do with what the company provides. I did this by using a basic font and use of language that is anonymous/non-relational to anything to subvert these companies and how they act and believe about themselves.  Also in the year 2026 a big company is rumming this exact campaign 😥 You know us mug, sem 2, creative cultures and contexts II, informarion cultures, 2024 by @beginningofthend_
Free Advertising, sem 2, fine art studio, 2024 Probably the work I am most proud of from 2nd year What does it mean to wear the shirt of a company? How do you end up becoming a brand ambassador for a brand who's values you may not align with? Trying to pose the question of why wear the shirt of a brand who hasn't paid you anything to do advertising for them. Why wear a shirt of a company if they do things that you dont agree with? Are you a willing or unwilling participant in their advertising campaign? Looked into the history of merchandise and how it started with bands making merch to show you have interest in them, how over time companies have taken this idea (and who make products that hsve nothing to do with clothing) make clothes for you to wear and buy and represent their brand with. Did a big deep dive into the brand supreme and how it origins stem from taking the font and colours that Barbara Kruger used in her work and made into a 'luxury' brand. Everything under capitalism is up to be re used and re purposed and without consequence, unless theres a copyright somewhere. Also got to use my new screenprinting skills which was really fun to reapply to a new context (fine arts)! by @beginningofthend_
This paper was super duper fun, kind of the most stressful thing ever (Textile students and creatives you are doing the most and I commend you on every step of the way i am not built for this) My final collection was based on the herb garden at the Wellington Botanic Gardens. I was drawn to the herb garden as I felt it reflected people's attitude towards herbs, forgotten, overlooked, only appreciated and have 'use' in their processed form. Although all modern medicine is derived from the use of herbs and herbs are very important to cooking, people prefer the processed form rather than partaking in growing and caring for the plants which heal and nourish them. Colour palette was developed from images taken of herbs, the surrounding area (found that all herbs I was looking into and surrounding myself with were grown near brick) or from the colours of dried / dead herbs. Also looked into the history of the herb garden (from growing herbs by Lorna Rowland who established the herb garden at the botans) and how in comparison it is not considered as important or worth maintaining Herbs for my kitchen, sem 1, textiles studio, 2024 by @beginningofthend_
I consider creating to include making in all its forms! I had a whole bunch of lemons from my tree at home so I used them to make my aunts lemon cordial recipe, yummers. Drop down in the comments if you want the recipe👇👇 by @beginningofthend_
Challenged the idea of photography by making the decision to define photocopying and utilising a printer as forms of 'photo taking'. Made some works that were [REDCATED] to recontextualize what a [REDACTED] really says, as a young person you don't know you can change them and make it work for you, which companies rely on when they make these [REDACTED]. Recieved critique that it wasn't pleasing from a 'graphic' pov but to me that didn't matter because it wasn't about the graphic element but taking a blackout poetry approach. The final slide was presented for crit week, also told I was making work that was more conceptual rather than photographic, in terms of medium. Final work was a full wall of my [REDACTED], to communicate how overwhelming it feels to be faced with this document full of language you dont comprehend. Can see some of the pages and even my risoprinted logo! (It all comes back to printmaking in some form) Untitled (overwhelmed), sem 1 summative, fine arts studio, 2024 by @beginningofthend_
A card I made for someone, I monoprinted some tagetes erecta (mexican marigolds), chocolate cosmos, mexican poppy and laelia orchid. Seems I will always return to my layering, monoprints/monotypes and ghost prints, just always love the textures that come out from monotypes! by @beginningofthend_
REPOST! Monoprints of dried thyme my cousin gave me, I think its fun to print things like this! Always comes out looking really cool, especially as I mess around with the pos/neg and ghost prints From l to r is the print with material, plate 1st pass, plate 2nd pass (ghostprint) Also an image of the old print rooms in block 2 of massey pukeahu Made for my textiles studio 2nd year! by @beginningofthend_
Moved on from prints into photography where I began to [REDACTED] which was all about [REDACTED] and I toyed with pushing the idea of photography by not using images I'd taken I instead took [REDACTED] and [REDACTED] Had notes from lecturers about how I was moving more conceptual than photographic which took me down a strange path Also started to research the work of Billy Apple who's work I found really intriguing - big concept stuff challenging the notion of 'what can be considered art if it's made by someone who calls themselves an artist' - also talks about ideas of ownership of things and transactions between individuals Untitled series (move towards photography), sem 1 b2, fine arts studio, 2024 by @beginningofthend_
My first EVER oil painting of @pocketmasseycat I love pocket (massey cat) Made while learning how to make oil paints from Will Bennet (very talented painter @_will.bennett_ )! Thank you Will I used my ochre in this painting of pocket Was lots of fun to smear paint around by @beginningofthend_
I forced my way into @massey_textiles so I could learn how to screenprint through the university and the facilities they have! So here's some images of my dye work/pigment mixing/screens/prints/formative presentation that I got to do as a part of the core studio Had so much fun learning and experimenting and am so grateful I was let in to give it a go and expand my printmaking repertoire and media within the medium! This is work from my studio course ! Lots of different prints exploring the idea of being a student and working and how a place of work treats you, expecting the most from you while you are not paid enough and literally studying a degree! (This is not about any company in particular at all or from my own lived experiences it's all sourced from anecdotes from many individuals). Started off by having the titles of the work do alot of 'talking' before moving into solely text work, was referencing and looking at the work of Barbara Kruger and Elisabeth Pointon as two influential text based artists! Wanted to move away from poetic and symbols doing the talking into words as this is what it felt like sometimes, being talked at. While having emojis to make you feel better about how dismissive they are to your concerns 😀💫 Excited to go back into printing and getting to make stuff within this medium again!! (I WILL NOT BE FORCED INTO INSTALLATION CONCEPTUALISM) 2, They can't be a small company if theyre in supermarkets 3, 4, Leave is blocked 5, The work/life balance doesn't exist for me? 6, [REDACTED] 7, Casuals this is your time to shine 8, You are the face of our company Untitled Series, sem 1 b1, fine arts studio, 2024 by @beginningofthend_
