Always nice when the commentators appreciate your work! That @scannas34 knows his stuff! by @ben_savva_coach

Crocks and socks out, suits and boots in!

Possibly my best minute in the corner ever haha. Firstly having @showtimeshawnp appreciate my advice and secondly my 0 empathy approach to @shanelldargan telling me she had broken her hand (which was true and correct haha)...no time for sympathy when you are this close to making history!!!! by @ben_savva_coach

Tyler Durden was a genius! What if the things you’re chasing are actually stopping you from enjoying life?

We work harder to earn more, buy nicer things, impress people and reach the next goal, convinced we’ll finally be happy when we get there.

But there’s always something else to chase.

We spend so much time trying to build a better life that we forget to enjoy the one we’ve got.

That’s one of the reasons I love boxing. It teaches you discipline, confidence, resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure. Things that improve your life far beyond the gym, regardless of what you achieve in the ring.

What if we focused less on what we want to HAVE and more on who we want to BE?

Want freedom? Learn to switch off.

Want peace? Stop letting everything get to you.

Want confidence? Start keeping promises to yourself.

BE → DO → HAVE. Not HAVE → DO → BE.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting more.

Just don’t spend your whole life waiting for a reason to be happy. by @ben_savva_coach

I used to spend my time focusing on what I wanted to have, what I wanted to achieve and where I wanted to be in life. As I have matured, I have become far more interested in who I want to become. Someone who’s disciplined, present, resilient, calm and in control of himself. Someone who tries to be a little better every day.

The beauty of focusing on who you want to be rather than what you want to have is that you can make progress every single day, regardless of your circumstances.

And ironically, becoming that person often leads you towards all those things you were chasing in the first place.

The difference is that you’re no longer relying on achieving them to feel good about yourself.

I’m far from perfect (unless you ask my mum), but I quite like the person I’m becoming.

Focus on who you want to be, and the rest has a much better chance of falling into place.

Was good meeting and spending a bit of time working with @noah.vankastel the other day. Cheers for popping in to support the gym mate. by @ben_savva_coach

Still my all time favourite style (the first I ever learnt). The art of picking somebody apart and scoring points whilst your opponent tries to have an actual “who’s the hardest here” type fight with you is just beautiful to see, especially when you also have the killer instinct to try and land the big single or combo to end it Simultaneously, rather than just aiming to win on points. (Later on you need to learn how to stand and fight without the bounce, moving your head and being more physical trying to out smart the opponent there too but it’s a style that is a great place to start your journey) by @ben_savva_coach

3 minutes or until somebody loses their bottle;) by @ben_savva_coach

Boxing is a constant battle of information, position, decisions, reactions and adjustments.

Study the ebb and flow. Who controls the distance, tempo, rhythm and ring position? HOW do they establish that control, and how does their opponent try to take it away?

Watch the information gathering. How do feints, steps, level changes and changes of pace test reactions, build expectations and set traps?

Study position before punches. How do foot placement, angles, balance and range create openings while taking away an opponent’s options?

Don’t just admire combinations. Ask what caused the opening. Was a punch thrown to score, draw a counter, force a defensive reaction or set something up three rounds later?

Watch the battle for initiative. Who is making the other fighter react? Who controls the exchange, including what happens immediately afterwards?

Study the adjustments. When a weapon stops working, what changes? How does the opponent answer, and what might the NEXT adjustment be?

Pay attention to energy, fatigue and emotion. How do fighters recover within rounds, conceal discomfort and maintain judgement under pressure? What changes between rounds after the corner speaks?

Study the losing fighter as carefully as the winner. What problem are they facing? Is their idea wrong, or is the execution failing? What solution could THAT fighter realistically carry out?

And don’t mistake every pause for a master plan. Learn to distinguish deliberate tactics from hesitation, fatigue and coincidence.

Watch fights more than once. Study each boxer separately. Watch the feet instead of the punches. Turn off the commentary. Predict what happens next, then test whether you were right.

Some of the deepest boxing happens when neither fighter throws. They’re negotiating distance, testing reactions and narrowing each other’s choices.

DON’T JUST ASK WHAT HAPPENED. ASK WHY, WHAT ELSE WAS POSSIBLE, WHAT COMES NEXT AND WHAT YOU’D CHANGE.

The punches are the visible result. Learn to see the battle that creates them. by @ben_savva_coach

18 year olds from my era when they drove past their mates. When you are young you convince yourself you don’t care what others think but your actions say otherwise. The best part about getting older is realising you don’t need to live up to a persona at all and the real flex is genuinely not giving a shit what anybody else thinks about you. The sooner you get there the better;) by @ben_savva_coach

In my 14th amateur fight, I beat a 70-fight veteran who was a two-time Eastern Counties champion and ABA semi-finalist.

Unfortunately, a couple of years later, I started wasting what should have been my prime. Too many distractions, too many late nights and nowhere near enough dedication to boxing. Self sabotage at its finest!

Luckily, I found my way back to the sport at 28 and still managed to have a pretty successful professional career, winning four titles and breaking into the WBC world rankings.

It’s pointless worrying about what could’ve, should’ve or would’ve been. You can only move forward from where you are, with what you know now. No time for regrets.

But it is wise to learn from those with more life experience than you. Listening to someone who’s already made the mistakes you’re about to make can save you an awful lot of painful lessons.

Just be careful whose advice you take, especially when it comes to chasing your dreams.

People who never took the risk themselves will rarely encourage you to take it. More often than not, they’ll advise you to play it safe, just as they did.

Learn from other people’s mistakes, but don’t let their fears become your limitations. by @ben_savva_coach

In the hours leading up, fear and excitement comes in waves. But this is the exact moment all the fear disappears and an acceptance of what is about to happen floods your body. Punch those gloves together, loosen that jaw and neck and tell yourself “let’s fucking go!”. If you want to feel what true presence and focus feels like, compete in a combat sport! by @ben_savva_coach
