artist log 031126.17. swipe for detailed report. TLDR: I feel loved and fulfilled and like an artist and the people were more than I could’ve wished for in this experience. Pictured works: completed installations from my residency 1.) “memory is a lover...”, 2026 water-based pigment ink, digital photograph printed on silk chiffon, wooden dowel, window vinyl 2.) “give & take / take & give”, 2026 photographic paper, paper, pigment ink on vellum, silk organza, steel plates, magnets, window vinyl “The intention of my work is to feel like a dream or memory - something that can help viewers explore emotion, connection, self reflection, and finality. The work is split into two main experiences, which I’ve thought of as give and take / take and give. The larger piece [in the entryway], is meant to create a space through my vulnerability with the audience in which I am giving. My hope is that the audience then takes that with them [to this room at the top of the stairs], and reflects and decides on what they’d like to give back to the artist or to the world.” endlessly, unequivocally, thankful to my artist cohort, my advisors, & Alexa rose foundation for not only supporting, but encouraging my ability, creativity, and madness, and going down this path hand in hand with me <3 @nationalmythstory, @ashllart, @janellnstrouse, @takkmoshi, @kamryn._.rose, @theplastickind, @clementine_zen_clay_, @allaroundcowboy_loops @commonwellboise @alexarosefoundation @shaughnessy.katherine @thefortbuilder by @benjaminjhuynh

One photo, 157 words. And a little creative experiment between friends. This one has been in the works for a while, and we’re excited to finally share it with you. It started with The Good Set and an invitation for artist Ben Huynh (@benjaminjhuynh) to do whatever he wanted with it. No rules, no expectations. Ben came back with a series of photographs, which we passed along to poet CL Young (@cl__young). CL picked one and wrote a poem in response. A little game of telephone between pals. We love seeing what happens when you pass ideas along and let someone else take it somewhere new. We’re sharing the photograph and poem here, with a little more about the collab over on the Fool’s Gold Studio Reader. Come have a look! 👀 by @benjaminjhuynh

pairings from the coast… a worlds noise, chaotic and relentless at times, crashes me in waves, it asks me why I am here. it demands to know why “I” am “here” as if I couldn’t be or shouldn’t be anywhere else, doing anything else… I ask myself what possible reason I have to be here. If not doing something more “right” or more “obvious” could silence large voice of “reason”. And yet, I find, a sea of chants, pushing me up. Volume, in vastness, squashes volume in authority. I am tiny in its wake but I feel important… to some. And that is all that matters… This thing I do does not shrink or squander, and silence in coastal town, I’ve known comfort in for decades, brings me back. I am a wandering, clueless, companion to the world. It shows me, and I see, and I welcome ignorant bliss, if not only to make something meaningful out of it. I love my friends, I love the ocean, I love how tiny I feel when looking at it, and engulfed by its chill, embraced by their love, lost in my own never ending fantasy that I work at making a reality. A fantasy of kindness, love, compassion, for the world, for others… for art. My pursuits may be futile, but doing something true… can never be worthless… it might be the only thing worth doing… anyway… ily thank you for being with me on this life, in this fantasy of mine 📸 mamiya 7 🎞️ kodak portra 400 🎞️ harman phoenix 200 ii by @benjaminjhuynh
tytyty for nurturing someone like me, someone who never finished books because his brain didn’t read them quite right, because pages would take minutes to finish; who was embarrassed to talk in front of people out of fear of being laughed at; someone who didn’t think much of what he said was worth saying so he held his tongue; who talks in broken sentences and half formed thoughts and arbitrary language and bullet points; and puts commas in all the wrong places…, ty for spreading the most accessible art form and supporting the lovers, the weirdos, the listeners, the writers, the literature of our community Happy birthday The Spill, ty DRL <3 ily I am… I think.., a writer now by @benjaminjhuynh
