Simi Lawoyin has seen firsthand how often strategic plans are created with care and optimism, only to lose momentum once the real work begins.

Now, as Purppl’s Service Lead for Strategy, Governance, and Leadership Development, her work focuses on what it takes to make strategy something people actually live.

For Simi, this begins with an impact strategy – not as a fixed plan, but as a living framework.

She supports organizations in naming the change they long to see and articulating how they believe it will unfold. That clarity becomes the thread that ties intended outcomes to budgets and day-to-day decisions, and helps teams stay focused when complexity inevitably pulls them off course.

Simi has also noticed that impact strategy isn’t just for nonprofits. Any social purpose organization can align profit with purpose in ways that build trust, resilience, and a shared orientation toward change.

The invitation she leaves people with is simple: what story of change is your organization living into – and can everyone see their place in it?

If that question resonates, Purppl would love to walk alongside you. Contact us to start the conversation through the link in our bio. by @bepurppl

This is precisely the kind of story that keeps coming up in our work, and one of the reasons we built our upcoming workshop, "Earn Revenue Without Risking Your Charity Status,” facilitated by Andrew Greer on January 21st at 9am PST.

@trailstotheboundary didn’t just respond to a funding shortfall by cutting back. They paused, looked hard at their structure, and asked a deeper question: what would it take to build something that could sustain the work and keep value in the community long-term?

KVR Outfitters is the result of that kind of thinking, a social enterprise that fills a real market gap while strengthening the nonprofit behind it. It’s also a clear example of why structure matters just as much as vision when organizations start exploring earned revenue.

We’ll be unpacking real cases like this in our upcoming workshop, creating space for leaders to pressure-test when revenue can live inside an existing entity and when a separate structure is the more responsible move.

If these questions are starting to surface in your organization, this story is worth a read, and the conversation is one we’re continuing in the workshop.

There’s a particular tension that shows up when your programs and offerings begin to outgrow your organizational structure.

What once felt solid can start to feel tight and restrictive, and while new opportunities come into view, so do questions about risk, compliance, and what your organization can realistically take on without jeopardizing your impact or charitable status.

At Purppl, we’ve worked alongside organizations facing this exact constraint, and that experience led us to develop this workshop.

This workshop isn’t about pushing growth for growth’s sake, but about creating clarity around where risk actually sits, and how to make thoughtful, defensible decisions before moving people, capital, or reputation.

Join us on January 21st at 9am PST for this two-hour, facilitated session, where we’ll work through real-world scenarios from established charities and nonprofits across Canada and explore when revenue can stay within your existing entity, and when a separate structure may be the more responsible path forward.

You don’t need a fully formed plan to attend — just a sense that these decisions are coming, and that getting them right matters.

The holiday season often brings that familiar New Year energy. Setting goals. Rethinking how things work. Asking whether the structures you’re operating within can actually support what’s coming next.

And you often realize that opportunity isn’t the issue. Structure is.

How do you pursue new or expanded revenue without putting your mission, reputation, or existing services at risk? How do you know when your current business model can stretch, and when it is quietly holding you back?

This is a question we’re hearing more and more from executive directors and CEOs of charities and nonprofits, particularly those exploring earned revenue, social enterprise, or the idea of starting a separate entity.

That’s why we’re hosting Purppl’s first workshop of 2026 and the first in a new workshop series we’ll be offering throughout the year.

This two-hour, interactive online session is designed for leaders of purpose-driven organizations who are actively considering incorporation and structural options.

Facilitated by Purppl Co founder and Managing Director Andrew Greer, the workshop focuses on assessing different structures to balance impact, risk, and long-term sustainability.

Together, we’ll work through real-world scenarios and case examples from organizations across Canada. You’ll explore when it makes sense to keep revenue inside your existing entity, and when a separate structure, such as a subsidiary business, nonprofit, or partnership, may be the stronger path forward.

If you want to engage in these conversations, register now to start 2026 with more confidence & clarity through the link in our bio.

And if you want early access to future workshops, sign up for our bi-monthly (roughly!) newsletter linked in our bio, to stay connected, no spam, we promise, just good practical content and connections. by @bepurppl

What does it look like when leadership becomes less about perfection and more about relationship building, humility, and learning?

When BEEM Credit Union (formerly Interior Savings and Gulf & Fraser) launched under their new name, they recognized the responsibility that comes with stewarding $17B in assets across diverse communities, including Indigenous peoples. And they acknowledged that this work needed to start with leadership.

Three BEEM leaders, including CEO Brian Harris, joined Journey Together, a leadership coaching-for-reconciliation program co-developed by kinSHIFT and Purppl and grounded in syilx-Okanagan principles.

With guidance from coaches Kelly Terbasket and Charmaine Lyn, the team examined how colonial patterns show up in everyday decisions, meetings, and interactions. They practiced leading with humility, pausing before reacting, and moving from transactional thinking to relationship-centred leadership.

The work wasn’t about perfection. It was about courage, vulnerability, and culture change.

Syilx teachings from Coyote, Fox, and Eagle reminded the team that reconciliation isn’t a project. It’s a long-term journey.

As CEO, Brian Harris shared:
“The more I’ve practiced vulnerability, the more I’ve seen how it creates space for others to explore, make mistakes, and learn.”

Have you ever done the difficult and messy work of building a strategic plan that looked great on paper but didn't drive the impact you hoped for?

That experience is more common than you think, and it doesn’t mean the work was wasted. It means there’s room to reconnect strategy to impact.

At Purppl, we go deeper. We support clients to build an impact strategy, which starts from a different place:

💜 It begins with the change you want to see in the world - not just what your organization wants to do.
💜 It clarifies who you are trying to impact, how that impact is created, and how you’ll measure it.
💜 It directly links your business model, programs, and operations to social, cultural, and/or environmental outcomes.
💜 It becomes your compass for making decisions, building partnerships, and attracting values-aligned capital.

So, while strategic planning helps you decide what you’ll do and gives you a focused, actionable and financially grounded roadmap to change, an impact strategy helps you decide why it all matters, clarifies what the change you hope to create is, and centres the folks who will be most impacted.

A strong impact strategy:
💜 Moves you from intentions to real-world outcomes
💜 Helps align your team, board, and partners around a shared vision
💜 Guides what to scale, what to stop, and where to innovate
💜 Strengthens your case to funders, partners, customers, and investors
💜 Builds resilience and sustainability by connecting revenue to impact
💜 Enables your team to see how their work is connected to a greater whole

If you’re looking to go deeper and bridge that gap between a strategic plan that looks great on paper to one that transforms how your organization works, makes decisions, and builds relationships.we would love to walk alongside you! Send us a message through the link in our bio.

Let’s build social impact together by @bepurppl

Did you know today is Social Enterprise Day?

It’s been around for almost a decade, but it still tends to fly under the radar. It’s a day to recognize businesses that make a profit and put people and the planet first.

And honestly? That message has never mattered more.

Here in the Okanagan, we’re proud to work with the @kelownachamber to spotlight local social enterprises doing the quiet, steady work of keeping our economies strong and our communities connected. Many are Chamber members, and many have been leading this work long before we had a name for it.

These businesses reinvest profits back into the people, communities, and environments they serve, organizations like @connectcounsellingtherapy, @jewelsokanagan, @aesthetikslab, @peoplelivedexperiencesociety, @kelownasgospelmission, @chickpeacezerowaste, and @hfhokanagan Restore

Purppl is also proud to be a social enterprise and to walk alongside many of these impactful organizations.

We collaborate with social enterprises, nonprofits, and purpose-driven businesses by helping teams turn intention into impact, practically, sustainably, and in ways that can scale. Our work focuses on:

💜 Coaching and consulting that turns big ideas into real, workable strategies
💜 Connecting the right people, funding, and resources so change becomes possible and not just aspirational
💜 Hosting gatherings and workshops that bring leaders together to learn, collaborate, and spark new partnerships
💜 Sharing tools, stories, and business practices that help build a more just and regenerative local economy

Because when social enterprises thrive, our whole community thrives with them.

If you’re exploring how to weave more purpose into your work, we’re here for that.

And if you know other social enterprises doing incredible things, tag them in the comments so we can help share their story. by @bepurppl
