Something different is coming to the Bertha Bioscope screen.

For the first time, we are bringing experimental film, video art and research together for a screening that pushes the boundaries of storytelling.

Join us for an eight-minute video installation.

But the story does not end when the screen goes dark.

Following the screening, Scott Williams, Dylan Valley and Duduetsang Lamola will unpack the intersections of art, archives and technology, and explore new ways of telling stories.

No Wi-Fi? No problem. We've got space for you.

We invite you to join Habitat International Coalition (HIC)'s 4-part Online Co-Learning Space.

The space brings together grassroots organisations to share experiences and explore solutions for advancing women's housing and land rights.

Session 1 is this Wednesday: Defending Against Forced Evictions: Community-led Mediation, Paralegals & Safe Spaces.

Join us at the Bertha House Bioscope - we'll be screening it live so you can participate with community.

Because important conversations should be accessible to everyone.

We hear a lot about the power of our vote. But how much power do we really have?

Our Brown Bag Series is back, and this time we are talking about democracy, accountability and the power of the people.

In collaboration with My Vote Counts, we are opening up the conversation on the power of our vote and what it really means to have a voice in our democracy. What does active citizenship look like? How do we hold those in power accountable? And how can we make our voices count beyond the ballot box?

The conversation will be facilitated by Thinam Mali from My Vote Counts.

What do we do with the freedom that we got?

That was the question that stayed with us after the screening of Prisoner 46764 - The untold legacy of Andrew Mlangeni at Bertha House.

The conversation took a deep dive on the heroes we rarely hear about, and the freedom we are still figuring out.

If you were in the room, what moment stayed with you?

If you missed it, what's one unsung hero we should know about?

What happens when “temporary” becomes permanent?

This October, our screen turns to uMlindo (The Waiting), a powerful documentary by Xolani Tulumani exploring life inside Langa’s migrant hostels - spaces originally built for single migrant workers that, generations later, have become home to families.

Come be part of the conversation; RSVP in the link in bio.
