“A flower does not think of competing with the flower next to it. It just blooms.” -Zen Shin ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Leaving this here as a reminder that it’s okay for you and I to be perfectly imperfect. 🌸 by @betsy.r.smith
'What is this place?!’ It's a question we've grown accustomed to answering. In 2021, my hubby Zach and I embarked on a collaborative venture, giving birth to Second Place Co. Our Second Home! Our vision was simple: a space where we could work side by side. At the front, you'll find Zach’s clothing brand where he does it all, from design to sewing, screen printing, dyeing, and more. At the back of house, I created a boutique hair studio, with the fantastic support of our wing woman, Tara. Not to be left out, even our son, River, has carved out a little sticker shop of his own. That's our story, and we're sticking to it! For the past two years, we've loved our coastal spot in Encinitas. Next time you're in town, drop by and see us! 📸 @christel.tran.photo #momandpopshop #smallbusinessowners #encinitas101 by @betsy.r.smith
Coming Soon! I walked into this space seven years ago to ask for a job. It was my dream salon. Adorable, boutique, a block from the ocean. The timing wasn’t right then, but it feels so very right now. Home is our first place. This is our second place. Home away from home. I’m thrilled to create something special with you. Stay tuned! #encinitassalon #encinitashairstylist #encinitaslife #passionproject #collaborativespace by @betsy.r.smith
❤️ One year later… We had a special reason to celebrate yesterday with these amazing humans! It’s hard to believe that a year has passed since the accident that changed everything at Gelato 101 in Encinitas. In a moment, our little patio, a place meant for happiness, laughter, and community, became the scene of something none of us could have ever imagined. One year later, we are still working to rebuild and reopen our doors. The journey has been longer and more challenging than we ever expected, but through it all, we’ve been reminded of what truly matters. Above everything else, the greatest blessing is that River has recovered and is doing well. Knowing that he is healthy and happy brings us endless gratitude.❤️ As difficult as this experience has been, it has also brought moments of incredible kindness, compassion, strength, and connection. It has reminded us how fragile life can be, how much good there is in people, and how even the darkest moments can lead to something positive. Today, we remember that day not only for what happened, but for how far we’ve all come since. We are grateful for River’s recovery, for everyone who supported his family and Gelato 101, and for the opportunity to keep moving forward with hope in our hearts. We remember and celebrate the miracle that happened that day, and move past the stress and hardship. We look forward to the day we can welcome everyone back, share smiles over a scoop of gelato, and celebrate new beginnings together. It won’t be much longer we are almost there.🍦❤️ One year later, we choose gratitude over fear, hope over hardship, and love over everything. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. With love and gratitude, Gelato 101 ❤️ #Gelato101encinitas #riverstrong #miracleriver #Community #StrongerTogether by @betsy.r.smith

Mulan Vibes ⚡️ We’ve been chopping off some hair this summer! Have you made the big power chop this year? Do you regret it? Are you loving it? Tell me!! 👇🏼 by @betsy.r.smith
Polishing my silver roots with my fly guy, Rio Joe. I love a flyaway stick to tame my pesky silvers! My almost 10 year old said that my silver hair made him sad because I might die one day. Is that what we are all trying to hide from when we color our silver hair and wrinkles? Mortality? Maybe! And maybe we can polish it a little bit and leave a few behind. Anyway, he loves my new dark hair gloss that’s naturally fading to reveal the silver underneath. (No more permanent hair color for this mama). So go seize the day, every day is a gift. Thanks @lanie.reece for the pro tip 😉 by @betsy.r.smith
Mom tested, kid approved. 💛 I came home and (she) said “your hair looks really pretty” thanks girl. “no really, it does mom” lol Anyone else find 15 minutes of solace in the car a slice of heaven? Like my new favorite place. by @betsy.r.smith
Do my hair with me while I take my new cut from Lord Farquaad to mamacita bob in 3.5 minutes. Disclaimer: I’m an old mom with young kids and approximately 5 minutes to get ready before my clients walk in and about 10 minutes to make an IG reel. So this is as good as it gets! All you mom biz owners out there… I see you busting your butts to do it all and you look great doing it, even if you feel like Shrek most days. Xx 😘 P.s. didn’t have time for the after photo but it looked good enough which is perfect for me! by @betsy.r.smith
