We talk about how Netflix turned a massive challenge into a 4X return for our clients. After the pandemic, Netflix stock fell 70%, but they executed a masterstroke by cracking down on password sharing and launching an ad-supported tier. This led to double-digit growth, more hit shows, better retention, and soaring profit margins, while competitors struggled. Netflix emerged as a pure play powerhouse, and is now up 6X from its lows. This is why we focus on long-term conviction even when it’s uncomfortable.

In this episode, We talk about how Meta’s stock tanked over 70% in 2022, but those who made an uncomfortable bet on it made 6X their money in just two years. This highlights the essence of investing - being rewarded for making the uncomfortable bets that others don’t. We then look at UnitedHealth, which is down 43% in one year, with nonstop negative headlines, but dig into the data to show it’s a dominant player in a growing industry, trading at a cheap price-earnings multiple. This is another uncomfortable bet that could be a potential winner.

Understanding Sequence of Returns Risk is crucial for a secure retirement! 📈📉 It’s not just about your average investment returns, but the order those returns happen in, especially as you start withdrawing funds.
Imagine Pam and Bob: both had the same average 6% return over 30 years. But Pam had a “Bull Market First” and her portfolio thrived, while Bob faced a “Bear Market First” right at retirement, significantly impacting his savings. Even with the same average return, the timing of market ups and downs made a HUGE difference in their retirement outcomes!
Why this matters now: With current market volatility, understanding this risk is more important than ever.
Strategies to protect your retirement:
- Diversify your portfolio (think a 60/40 stock/bond mix).
- Use dynamic withdrawal strategies that adjust to market conditions. Not just 4% rule.
- Consider bucket strategies to manage short-term vs. long-term needs.
- Look into TIPS for inflation protection.
Don’t let early market downturns derail your retirement dreams. Careful planning and smart strategies are key! 🔑

Me, teaching my kid about shareholder value. Fun fact: If you invested $1,000 in Costco in 1985, you’d be sitting on hundreds of thousands today. That’s real bulk value right there! Patience and long-term investing is key to great wealth😉 @costco 📈👶 #shareholdervalue #financialliteracy #bulksavings #parenting #wealthbuilding by @beyond_returns

🎢 April was a WILD ride! Markets reacted strongly to tariff news, with the S&P 500 dropping as much as 12%.
📉 But here’s the key: it rebounded! This highlights the importance of planning and diversification. Even with volatility, a balanced portfolio (bonds & international stocks helped!) can weather the storm.

Key Market and Economic Drivers

- The S&P 500 fell 0.8% in April, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 3.2%, and the Nasdaq rose 0.9%.

- Year-to-date, the S&P 500 has declined 5.3%, the Dow 4.4%, and the Nasdaq 9.7%.
- The Bloomberg U.S. Aggregate Bond index gained 0.4% in April and is up 3.2% year-to-date.

- The 10-year Treasury yield ended the month at 4.16%, but was as low as 3.99% and as high as 4.49% over the month.

-The U.S. dollar index fell 4.5% to end the month at 99.5, near a three-year low.

- Bitcoin fell to $77,052 during the month, but ended at $94,581.

- The Consumer Price Index rose 2.4% in March compared to the prior year, slower than expected and the lowest reading since last September.

- Retail sales fell 0.9%, including a 1.9% decline in non-store retail sales (i.e., online shopping). The household savings rate rose slightly to 4.6% but is still below the historical average of 6.2%.

The economy shrank slightly with GDP falling 0.3% in the first quarter, the first decline since Q1 2022. A significant increase in import activity drove this decline.

Stay invested. Diversify. Plan for uncertainty.
