English below ↓

—

Nothing could be simpler than following the flags šŸ‘€ leading from Eaux-Vives station to the French border along the Voie verte.

@sebacalfuqueo ’s photographs have transformed into flags guiding the way toward a reconnection with the living world — or perhaps toward a metamorphosis of our bodies with the rest of the environment.🪻

Mapuche artist Seba Calfuqueo develops a practice in which humans, plants, stones and water form part of the same living fabric. Through photography, performance and photomontage, they explore extractivism, land and water privatization, and the colonial legacies that continue shaping territories and bodies.

Installed in public space along the Voie verte, the works propose another way of inhabiting the world — not through domination, but through interdependence between living beings.

Art sometimes has the capacity to alter our perception simply by changing the scale at which we look at the world.

Few materials seem as ordinary as sand.

We walk on it, build with it, and shape our cities through it. Yet it often remains unnoticed, despite being one of the most extracted natural resources on Earth.

Installed along the Voie verte in Geneva, Fragments: Tidal Memories by Jeewi Lee and Phillip C. Reiner invites us to reconsider this seemingly insignificant material.

Commissioned by the Busan Biennale Organizing Committee in 2025, the work enlarges a single grain of sand collected between South Korea, Mallorca and New York more than a thousand times, transforming an almost invisible particle into a monumental sculpture.

This shift in scale reveals an intricate topography shaped by geological processes unfolding over thousands, sometimes millions, of years. The grain becomes a landscape in itself.

What interests me in this work is not only the question of resource extraction, but also its relationship to time.

In a society often driven by acceleration and immediate results, the work invites us to engage with temporalities that exceed human lifespans and to recognize the histories embedded within the materials that surround us every day.

Jeewi Lee's exploration of sand continues at Villa du Parc until September 20, where works created with sand directly applied onto canvas extend this ongoing research.

Many thanks to the Busan Biennale Organizing Committee for commissioning the work, and to the Municipality of Chêne-Bougeries for making its presentation in public space possible.

Art and Activism: A Visit with Artist Mabe Bethônico

Through her installation The Collective Dig: A Paper Theatre on the Myths of Extraction and her video work StoneStatements Journal, Mabe Bethônico examines narratives surrounding mining, its environmental and social consequences, and the power relations it entails.

On the eve of a major climate demonstration in Geneva, this visit will open a discussion between the artist and the public on the relationship between art and activism: How can artistic practices make these mechanisms visible, encourage citizen participation, and support movements advocating for corporate accountability?

(re)connecting.earth, pourquoi ?

(re)connecting.earth — why?

As young people across France return to high school today unable to use their phones, what actually brings about a reconnection with the Earth?

In this excerpt, Bernard Vienat reflects on a desire at the heart of the programme: to create, through art, situations that renew our attention to the Earth and to urban nature. A particularly timely question, as our attachment to technological devices—and especially to our phones—can distance us from the rest of the living world.

Works featured: Energy as a Vehicle by @severinguelpa and HOW DO WE GET THERE? by @gabrielmassan .
