Indonesia now owns land in Makkah.

Danantara, Indonesia's sovereign wealth fund, has bought 44,000 m² across 14 plots inside Thakher Makkah, one of the approved foreign ownership zones.

Danantara already owns Novotel Thakher Makkah, with 1,400+ rooms.

The hotel and land together cost around SAR 2 billion, with a further SAR 4 billion planned for development.

If you’re interested in learning more about Makkah’s foreign ownership zones, our Makkah Buyer's Guide covers every project in depth. Comment "MAKKAH" below and we'll send over the link. by @beyondmakkah

Clock Tower or Jabal Omar?

What’s a better option?

It all comes down to what you prioritize.

If you’re someone that prefers a modern hotel without breaking the bank, Jabal Omar is your best bet.

If instead, you prioritize views overlooking the Haram and a short walking distance, the Clock Tower is the one.

Whatever your preference, whether it’s Haram views, walking distance or kid-friendly hotels, try out the new way to search hotels in Makkah over on our website.

Would you pay this much?

With Christmas holidays coming up, plans are being made.

If Makkah is on the list for this year, then it’s worth knowing how much it’s going to set you back.

We’ve gathered prices of every Haram-facing hotel this coming Christmas so you can see where you can make savings.

If you want to test out your specific dates, and filter by a hotel that suits you, then drop a “hotels” comment below.

Is your hotel really five minutes from the Haram?

Booking sites don't tell you what matters in Makkah.

Every listing says it's close to the Haram. Few tell you how far it actually is, whether you'll see the Kaaba from your window, or which hotels suit the way you want to stay.

So our team built a hotel search made for Makkah.

See where every hotel sits in relation to the Haram, and how far it really is. Find the hotels with a Haram view. Filter by what matters for Umrah, not what matters for a city break.

Put in your own dates and see live prices for every hotel.

It’s officially launched.

The Makkah Marathon will take place towards the end of the year, on Saturday 19th December.

Three races, ranging from 5 to 21 km. And for the little ones, a 2 km kids race the day before.

If you’re a runner, what are your thoughts? Will you be joining?

Do you know the premium you’ll need to pay in Ramadan?

Ramadan hotels in Makkah are currently coming out at more than double other months.

Many people decide on Ramadan, open the booking sites and the prices stop them in their tracks. Nearly £500 a night, and the last ten nights already selling out.

Our team ran the numbers across every date.

And Ramadan does not need to break the bank. Novotel Thakher is £90 a night. voco Makkah £100. Millennium Al Naseem £120. All within reach of the Haram.

Admittedly, they won’t be a few minutes walking distance, but it means that that there are affordable options available.

Booking these hotels now means you pay a quarter of what the Clock Tower costs. Leave it to January and the budget options may be gone.

Find your Ramadan hotel on our new search tool - the new way to search hotels in Makkah.

Would you run a marathon in Makkah?

Makkah is about to get a new race.

It’s just been announced. We will be sharing more information as we confirm the details.

In the meantime, if you’re a runner, tag your running partner and start getting ready. by @beyondmakkah

Where do you eat after Isha in Makkah?

Most people end up on the third floor of the Clock Tower for its food court.

It’s worth knowing there are better options within a few minutes of the Haram, and a couple worth the drive, if you can make the time.

Our team picked the five places we keep going back to. Turkish grills, Pakistani BBQ, smoked brisket and two burger spots.

Riyadh airport has reopened.

However, most airlines have not confirmed when their flights will resume.

Riyadh's King Khalid International reopened Terminals 1 and 2 on Sunday 25 October, for domestic flights and international flights by Saudi airlines. The airport announced it in an official statement on Saturday evening, 24 October.

Saudia's early Riyadh–Jeddah flights did not operate on Sunday morning, and most other Riyadh flights remain unconfirmed for now.

So what does this mean if you're travelling?

If you're flying into Riyadh in the coming weeks, your airline will confirm when it resumes. Several international airlines have already set dates in November.

If you're flying into Jeddah or Madinah, most airlines are operating. Some are not, so it is worth looking over the status update.

Flying soon? Our team checks every airline's status daily, so you don't have to. Link in bio @beyondmakkah by @beyondmakkah

Makkah and Madinah this winter break?

December is the most popular month on our hotel search tool. With the UK school holidays giving a two-week break, it's one of the busiest seasons for Umrah.

For good reason, too. The weather in Makkah and Madinah is at its best, with daytime temperatures in the mid 20s.

Our team broke down the trip cost and priced it for two people.

Four nights in Makkah, the Haramain train to Madinah, four nights there, then home from Madinah.

Depending on the hotel, the prices can be staggeringly different. So we've given three options in each city to see what fits your budget.

If you want to see for yourself, put in your own dates and search your hotel on our new tool, the new way to search hotels in Makkah. Comment "HOTELS" below and we'll send over the link. by @beyondmakkah

Not every Haram view is the same.

Some hotels face the Kaaba directly. Some look across the white marble. Some give you the minarets and little else.

We went through the hotels that offer a Haram view and looked at what you actually see from each one.

What’s your favorite hotel view? Comment below and let us know by @beyondmakkah

Which country led the purchases?

Every unit in Masar Corner's shorter tower was reserved on its launch day. 241 units across 28 floors, comprising sales over £125 million.

Reservations came in from 51 countries, and almost a third came from just three: Nigeria, Indonesia and Pakistan.

The tower sits at the heart of Masar, beside King Abdullah Mosque and neighbouring the future Masar Gardens.

Our in-depth article on Masar covers the entire district and who is building what. Read it on the website, link in bio @beyondmakkah by @beyondmakkah
