Goodbye, Germany 🇩🇪❤️‍🩹

It’s hard to summarise 12 years, so I won’t even try.

Leaving my country, my family, my friends, my home, and stepping into the unknown for a career was one of the hardest, bravest, and perhaps most selfish things I’ve ever done. And the truth is: I wouldn’t do it again. At least not for this long.

Who am I? What am I doing here? God knows how many times I asked myself those questions. More often than not, it was hard to keep going. I felt lost, lonely, guilty. At times, it almost destroyed me.

But I made it through. Through friendships that held me together, through resilience I didn’t know I had, through hope that refused to die even on the darkest days.

People often judged me with: “So many years in Germany and you still can’t speak the language?”
But I had to learn so much more than a language. I had to learn how to exist in a culture so different from my own — not only in words, but in touch, in warmth, in silence, in customs, while being far from the ones I love.

I arrived in a foreign country unable to imagine who I would become. I leave with a PhD in biochemistry, leading teams of software engineers, carrying experiences that changed me forever. Some may call that success. Maybe it is, but at what cost?

And if these years taught me anything, it’s that achievement means very little if you lose yourself along the way.

Still, despite everything, I am grateful. For every friend who became family, for family who became best friends. For the music and dance that carried me through some of the loneliest moments of my life. For every version of myself I had to meet. For discovering that one of the most important feelings in life is belonging.

And for learning that, sometimes, when the world feels unfamiliar, you have to learn how to become your own home. I hope I learn that soon. Because now, I’m doing this all over again. by @biathegirl

This one stayed with me. Learned it at @reggaeton_camp.

Thank you @jeanmichael.rgtn and @drakodance_ for teaching not just the moves, but the feeling behind them. The way you break down every step made me believe that anyone can do it.

You’re the real deal.
