So far in the month of June for myself, my, husband and baby K I have invested $709 in our Roths and 529By day 3 something came over me and I said FUCK IT WE BALL!I’m going to invest as much as I can. If that means no shopping for this month, I’m OK with that. Less eating out? FINE!! But to say I gave it my all for 30 days is proof that I can do anything… Even the stuff that I think is hard!!It’s day 6 and I’m investing $7 for each of us! Sometimes I don’t think we fully understand the capacity it takes to get to the level that we aspire to be at.And I believe that’s the most important question you can ask yourself is in this moment right now what capacity do I have to handle the life that I want.If I start to make $10,000 a month or even $20,000 a month do I know how to budget and manage that money? Or will I use it frivolously?Do I have a mental capacity and the physical capacity needed to maintain the life that I want to live?We can always stretch ourselves, grow through this discomfort but I think sometimes we feel like we miss the mark it’s because we’re thinking of the dream life without realizing the WORK.#entrepreneurship #dreamlife #personalfinance by @selmamakescents

To the girl right now who probably thinks her mother doesn’t love her: if you’re in the situation I was, she probably doesn’t. She probably doesn’t know how to love. She probably wasn’t loved properly.But don’t let that be the reason why you don’t go after everything you want.I am a prime example of being discarded into the foster care system. Trying to have a relationship with her only for her to tell me in my teenage years that I thought I was white because I wanted to be in Soho and out of the area I was in, to stopping me from going to college.I want you to understand that you can break the cycle. As a family of 3 in Westchester County with 2 jobs and 1 business neither of our salaries are over $100,000 individually.We still eat out. We still live our life. None of that is skipped because baby I ain’t got time to be rich and depressed 🥴🤣But the first thing that happens when we get paid is investing and savings. That is non negotiable. Everything else gets what is left! WE INVEST FIRST, BILLS COME SECOND!This is not about making a lot of money. This is about being intentional with the money we have NOW, when we make more we will invest MORE for sure. Every luxury item I own is attached to a financial milestone I hit.But here is what I have learned. What sustains you on the journey changes as you grow. For me it used to be the luxury bag. Now it is a nice dinner and a weekend away with my family.And that is okay.As a special education teacher I can tell you yhis is positive reinforcement. When you celebrate a financial win your brain connects the behavior of saving and paying off debt to a reward. That means you are more likely to do it again.You are not being irresponsible.
