Norfolk State had plans to spoil SC State’s homecoming, just like the Bulldogs did to theirs last year, but it didn’t work! The Bulldogs improve to 6-2 on the season! 🐶❤️💙

Happy birthday To Beyoncé! 👑
She gave us an HBCU inspired Coachella show, so we had to share 6 times HBCU bands have played her music.

@hu_bands has some exciting things in the works this season, but making it happen takes a system.

The term “Black Ivy League” is an unofficial cultural term often used to describe Historically Black Colleges and Universities known for their academic prestige and selectivity.

Schools associated with the term can also have higher tuition and more selective admissions, which made us wonder: Does that affect the band? Does it make recruiting students more challenging?

Have you ever wondered what recruiting looks like for HBCU bands at a Black Ivy League? We had a great conversation with Hampton University Director of Bands, Dr. Thomas Jones, about recruiting, building a program, and what it takes to grow a band at one of the nation’s most prestigious HBCUs.

Watch the full interview and read the full article on our website. Link in bio.
