POSTS STORIES REELS
Join BEFC for a special screening of Tales from the Hood (1995), a 90s horror anthology where the real nightmares go deeper than the supernatural with just the right amount of humor (David Alan Grier??) cos you know we play about just about everything… lol 📅 Wednesday, October 21 📍 @westviewmakers | West End, Atlanta 🚪 Doors open at 6:30 PM 🎬 Film starts at 7 PM Come watch and stay for the conversation. #TalesFromTheHood #BlackEyeFilmClub #BlackHorror #BlackCinema #AtlantaFilm by @blackeyefilmclub
Thank you to everyone who joined us last night for Welcome II the Terrordome! And a special thank you to @ifeanyiawachie and @saylessjme for joining us in conversation and helping us unpack the film. These conversations are such an important part of what we do at BEFC, and we’re grateful to everyone who continues to show up, engage, and make space for Black cinema. NEXT WEEK: We’re back at @westviewmakers keeping spooky season going with TALES FROM THE HOOD (1995)! 💀 Our October screenings tend to lean toward the spiritually heavy, the strange, and the esoteric, and Tales from the Hood fits right in. Blending supernatural horror, social commentary, and dark humor through a series of interconnected vignettes, Rusty Cundieff’s cult classic reminds us that sometimes the most terrifying things aren’t supernatural at all. Come get spooky with us. 🎃 Screening details and tickets in the flyer. See you next week! Link in bio! by @blackeyefilmclub
30 YEARS LATER, THE TERRORDOME IS STILL HERE. In 1995, Nigerian-British filmmaker Ngozi Onwurah imagined a dystopian world where Black communities are trapped under the weight of police brutality, racial violence, poverty, and systemic oppression. Drawing on the history of Igbo Landing, WELCOME II THE TERRORDOME connects the horrors of slavery to a future in which the struggle for freedom is far from over. When the film was released, critics dismissed its vision as excessively violent and nihilistic. Three decades later, its depiction of racial injustice feels less like an imagined future and more like the world we’ve come to recognize. Onwurah has spoken about the bittersweet experience of seeing her film rediscovered. Its resurgence is a triumph, but its continued relevance is hardly something to celebrate. What does it mean when a film’s imagined dystopia still resembles our reality? Tomorrow, Black Eye Film Club brings the newly restored WELCOME II THE TERRORDOME to the Plaza Theatre, followed by a conversation with filmmaker @ifeanyiawachie and @saylessjme . We are also sitting in celebratory anticipation of Ifeanyi’s upcoming short film program, Echi Di Ime (“Tomorrow is Pregnant”) in November, also the upcoming BEFC screening for spooky season, link for that in the bio! #atlantafilmmaker #blackwomendirectors TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13 | PLAZA THEATRE Tickets at the link in bio. by @blackeyefilmclub
Next Tuesday we’re screening WELCOME II THE TERRORDOME @plazaatlanta as always with BEFC, we’re going to unpack and discuss afterwards. Joining us is filmmaker/actor @saylessjme and filmmaker/Scholar @ifeanyiawachie to talk about the historical, social and technical aspects of this amazing afrofuturist film shot on a VERY tight budget and remastered to 2K. We’re going to also open the floor up for comments about the film so that we can share communally. I’m also going to give away posters and TWO blu-rays to some film buffs who know what’s going down in the black film pantheon. You have to see this! What a treat to see on the screen! See you there. #blackeyefilmclub #afrofuturism #atlantafilm by @blackeyefilmclub
Here’s the trailer for WELCOME II THE TERRORDOME. Newly remastered, highly relevant and still ahead of its time. October 13th 8PM at The Pkaza by @blackeyefilmclub
BEFC returns to the Plaza with the newly remastered Ngozi Onwurah’s Welcome II the Terrordome (1993), a landmark of Black British cinema and a film that is startlingly relative 30 years later. Moving between the permeance of slavery and a dystopian future, Onwurah collapses past and present into a furious vision of race, violence and survival. Terrordome is a 90s era Afrofuturist nightmare, unapologetic and refuses to be easily categorized. This is exactly the kind of film BEFC exists to champion: bold, challenging, underseen Black cinema that deserves to be experienced together. Onwurah made history with the film as the first Black British woman to direct a theatrically released feature film in the UK. TUESDAY, OCTOBER 13 · 8 PM Stay after the film for interactive discussion and giveaways including blu-rays and posters, courtesy of Janus Films. Big thanks to them. Link in Bio. by @blackeyefilmclub
Tonight was great. We watched Naked Acts and unpacked the trials of trauma and the act of acceptance and self preservation. Cozy crowd tonight, grateful for fellowship. Thanks for everyone who came out! Next stop, the Plaza on the 13th. by @blackeyefilmclub
What does it mean to feel at home in your own body? ❤️ Next week, Black Eye Film Club presents NAKED ACTS (1996) a tender, funny, and deeply human film about a young Black woman navigating intimacy, the weight of past trauma, and the complicated journey toward loving herself. With warmth, humor, and honesty, director Bridgett M. Davis explores the ways we see ourselves, the stories our bodies carry, and what it takes to reclaim our own desires. Come for the film. Stay for the conversation. 🗣️ 📅 Wednesday, September 23 📍 Westview Makers, Atlanta 🚪 Doors open at 6:30 PM 🎬 Film begins at 7 PM 🎟️ Tix Link in bio #NakedActs #BlackEyeFilmClub #BlackCinema #BlackWomenInFilm #IndependentFilm by @blackeyefilmclub
Black Eye Film Club presents NAKED ACTS (1996), written and directed by Bridgett M. Davis. Cicely is an aspiring actress who finally lands a role that could be her big break—there’s just one problem: it requires her to perform a nude scene. What follows is a funny, intimate, and complicated exploration of body image, desire, vulnerability, family, and the politics of looking. Made independently in the ’90s and largely unavailable for decades, Naked Acts is the kind of film we love finding at BEFC: a Black film that got far less attention than it deserved and feels remarkably alive when seen today. Come watch it with us! LINK IN BIO! Weds, Sep 23 Westview Makers, 1554 RDA Atlanta, GA 30310 Doors open at 6:30 by @blackeyefilmclub

DREAMS IN NIGHTMARES follows a group of queer friends in their mid-30s as they make their way through life, relationships, and the places they call home. And personally, I’m very excited to see Denée Benton on the big screen - my fave from The Gilded Age! Starring Denée Benton, Dezi Bing, Sasha Compère, Mars Storm Rucker, Charlie Barnett, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Regina Taylor, and Robert Wisdom. Opening Friday, August 28 at the Plaza Theatre. We’re switching nights! Join Black Eye Film Club on Wednesday, August 26 for The Black Power Mixtape 1967–1975. Between 1967 and 1975, Swedish journalists traveled throughout the United States documenting the Black Power movement on 16mm film, capturing remarkable footage of Stokely Carmichael, Angela Davis, Bobby Seale, Eldridge Cleaver and others. Decades later, filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson brought the largely unseen footage together into this documentary, pairing the archival material with contemporary voices and music. Part time capsule, part historical document, The Black Power Mixtape offers an extraordinary look at Black political thought, organizing, culture and everyday life during a transformative era. After an incredible sold-out Riverbend, we’re excited to gather with you again for another night of Black cinema and conversation. August 26, Wednesday
