Numb hands, knee aches, or lower back pain on climbs? It might not be your fitness—it’s your bike fit! 🚲⚡

Most mountain bikers accept pain, fatigue, and numbness as just “part of the sport”. But every rider wants to pedal faster, ride longer, and feel completely in control on technical terrain. The hidden barrier? Locking your elbows, shrugging your shoulders on climbs, or riding an improper saddle height forces your spine into severe flexion and pinches nerves. I took my rigs to Katie @blackmountainphysio for a professional, physio-led bike fit—starting with an off-bike mobility test before touching a single allen key!
The payoff: a neutral spine, balanced 50:50 weight distribution, zero hand numbness, and way more power in the pedals.
💡 3 Quick Takeaways to Check Your Ride:
Keep Soft Elbows: Avoid locking your arms on uphills to take pressure off your upper back and median/ulnar nerves.
Relax Your Shoulders: Drop them away from your ears while pedaling to open up breathing efficiency.
Drop Your Heels: On descents, dropping your heels helps tap into extra posterior chain strength and stability!

Still up at 3am… again? 🙄

Nocturia (aka too many night pees) is common in perimenopause and menopause — but it’s NOT something you have to live with.

A few simple pelvic floor + bladder fixes can get your sleep back.

Ready to stop the 3am wake-up calls?

🚴 Introducing Bike Fit at Black Mountain Physio!

Riding with pain, discomfort, or just not feeling quite right on the bike? It might not be your fitness — it might be your fit!

I’m so excited to now offer professional Bike Fit services as part of my physiotherapy practice. As a physio with a genuine passion for cycling biomechanics, I’ll assess the full picture — you and your bike — to find your green zone. That sweet spot where your body moves efficiently, comfortably, and pain-free.

Here’s what we look at:
✨ Saddle height, position & shape
✨ Reach, stack & handlebar setup
✨ Cleat alignment & foot mechanics
✨ Rider mobility & movement patterns
✨ Hardware vs. rider-specific factors

Whether you’re on a mountain bike, gravel bike, endurance road bike, or race bike — there’s a position out there that works for your body, and I’d love to help you find it!

✅ Billed as a physiotherapy service — worth checking your extended health benefits!

📩 Send me a DM if you have questions or want to learn more — I’m happy to chat!

Who you ride with makes or breaks your experience and here’s a story that will inspire you 💫

@katie_hauck and @mike.w.ma are hands down connectors! Their love for the outdoors and their kindness shines bright.

I’ve had the privilege to coach them, call them friends, and see how fast they’ve progressed. You’ll probably see them at Crawford, Gillard, or the bike parks!

Getting ready for prostate surgery?
➡️ Prehab speeds recovery.

Research shows that men who start pelvic floor training before surgery leak less at 2, 6, and 12 weeks post-op. Prehab can help you regain bladder control faster, strengthen recovery, and feel more confident day to day.

At Black Mountain Physio, I work with men before and after prostate surgery to:
✔️ Teach correct pelvic floor activation
✔️ Improve bladder control strategies
✔️ Prepare your body for surgery and recovery

If you have surgery coming up, now’s the best time to start.
Talk to a pelvic health physiotherapist experienced in treating men to get the right plan for you.

I’ll also be speaking at the Kelowna Prostate Cancer Support Group this Saturday (November 8) about how pelvic physiotherapy supports recovery after surgery and radiation.

November is the month to create awareness about Men’s Health.....especially awareness about men’s mental health, Prostate Cancer, Testicular Cancer and suicide risk.

On a daily basis in my physio clinic I witness men who are struggling physically and emotionally.

They may have chronic pelvic pain, erectile health problems, urinary incontinence and other symptoms that may be very embarrassing or difficult to openly discuss.

During MOVEMBER let’s remember that there are many barriers to men receiving the treatment they need.

If you are a man struggling with pelvic health issues then please know you are NOT alone.

Reach out to your doctor or to a pelvic physiotherapist who is trained in treating men if you are noticing changes in your pelvic health.

🌸 New Service Alert: Ultrasound for Blocked Milk Ducts 🌸

Breastfeeding can be beautiful — but blocked ducts can make it painful and stressful. That’s where therapeutic ultrasound comes in.

Ultrasound can help:
✨ Break up stubborn blockages
✨ Reduce pain and tenderness
✨ Speed up recovery so you can keep feeding comfortably

⚠️ Note: If you have fever, chills, or flu-like symptoms, please see your doctor first — ultrasound is only for non-infectious blocked ducts.

Most people feel better after just 1–3 quick sessions.

📅 Book now at blackmountainphysio.com
or send me a DM to learn more.

Let’s keep you (and your little one) happy, healthy, and pain-free. 🤱
