{1/2} At a time when words feel useless, I have so many for Freyja. When she came to me she was just ‘5926’ at a Salughter auction. We got her for $1,000 and I knew upon seeing her she’d be ‘Freyja’: Norse goddess of love, beauty, fertility, magic, war and death. She also commands the Valkyries female warriors of the Gods. I never knew how fitting this would be for her. The Goddess Freyjas beauty earned her unwanted attention, much like my Freyja who was kept in a breeding program until they broke her down so much she was unable to carry the weight of a baby at just 15. She came to us with a severe respiratory infection, severe osteoarthritis and a badly wounded eye. She trusted me from day 1. I have a bond with this horse that I can’t put into words, but she knows and I know.

In case you missed it…after we lost our beloved Jon Snow to a serious infection, the herd was unsettled. Freyja suffered multiple freak blows to her elbow from our other Mare. Her elbow was shattered, but not her spirit. She’s spent the past 4 weeks surprising so many vets and battling her way back to me. She’s coming home, just not how either of us fought for.

My girl didn’t lose the battle. I’m in awe of her. She’s traded her limp for wings.
As some know freyja began to develop laminitis last weekend in her opposite foot from all the weight bearing. They wanted me to let her go but I couldn’t. I was running on Faith and my connection to her alone. She fought and surprised everyone for a week. I could believe her strength. I was not surprised. As of this morning I received the heartbreaking call her hardware had come apart from her ability to lay down and get back up…it didn’t hold and this was it.

My girl went looking into my eyes being told how loved she is, with all the tears and kisses. She had all the treats and snuggles on my lap and went peacefully knowing she was taking a lot of me with her. She is proof of a bigger purpose, she is proof of Gods work. Now she flies high, surely God and all the Angels in awe of her.

ICYMI: for the indefinite future…100% of sales/profits from blainebowen.com will be going to the care and medical treatment of our 5 new rescue horses from a local kill pen 🤍 every dime of your orders is going towards changing these beautiful animals lives and showing them how loved they are…that people are good and they now have a family 110% dedicated to them. Unlike those that made the choice at some point…that they didn’t matter. We all have collectively proved those people wrong.

I can’t thank you all enough for the overwhelming support you’ve show me over the years…then to see that support magnified beyond my wildest expectations during this spontaneous pivot in our life…I’ll just really forever be grateful for all of you and don’t have the right words for it.

Until I do, please know…we are grateful beyond measure and beyond excited to share this journey with all of you. 🤍 by @blainebowen
