It was never just about sport. ACTIVE gives young people a place to MOVE, to try, play and discover what their bodies can do. A place to CONNECT, to laugh, build friendships and feel like they belong. And a place to GROW, in confidence, resilience and belief in themselves. No pressure to be the best. No expectation to already be “sporty.” Just a place to have a go, be yourself and discover: I can do this. I belong here. I am capable. That’s Move • Connect • Grow. #BloomAndBuild #BloomAndBuildACTIVE #MoveConnectGrow #YouthDevelopment #KidsConfidence #HomeschoolKids by @bloomandbuildhub
Sometimes the growth I notice at ACTIVE has very little to do with sport. I remember having a conversation with a parent before their teen joined us. They wanted to come, but they were nervous. They’d had some difficult experiences socially in the past, and understandably, there was some worry about what stepping into another new group might feel like. Would they fit in? Would they find people they connected with? Would they feel comfortable enough to actually be themselves? So when they first joined us, there was never an expectation that they needed to walk through the door and immediately be confident, outgoing or ready to jump into everything. They could take their time. And slowly, over the weeks, I started noticing little changes. They were talking more. Joining in more easily. Laughing with the other teens. Looking for certain people when they arrived. Conversations started happening before and after activities. Inside jokes started forming. And then at some point, I realised I wasn’t watching a young person who was trying to find their place in the group anymore. I was watching a young person who had found it. They’d made genuine friendships. They were comfortable. They were laughing. They were connecting. They belonged. And as their coach, getting to watch that happen has been pretty special. Because particularly as young people get older, sometimes the biggest win isn’t learning a new skill or becoming better at a sport. Sometimes it’s finding somewhere you feel safe enough to let your guard down. Finding people you genuinely enjoy being around. Having somewhere you actually look forward to going. And being reminded that one difficult experience doesn’t have to define every experience that comes after it. That’s the kind of growth that can be harder to capture in a photo or measure on paper. But it matters. And it’s one of the reasons creating a space where our teens feel safe, supported and able to be themselves matters so much to me. 💙 by @bloomandbuildhub
What if movement didn’t have to happen around learning… but could actually become part of it? Homeschooling gives us so much freedom to explore different ways of learning, and sometimes the best learning happens when young people aren’t sitting still. So I’ve created another FREE resource for our homeschool community: 🌱 Learning Through Movement: A Practical Toolkit for Active Homeschooling Inside you’ll find 48 simple movement-based activities across six learning areas, designed to help make learning more active, engaging and meaningful. These aren’t complicated lesson plans or activities that require hours of preparation. They’re practical ideas you can pick up, adapt and use in a way that works for your child, their age, their interests and the kind of day you’re having. Because movement can do so much more than burn energy. It can support focus, build confidence, encourage problem-solving and give young people another way to explore, understand and remember what they’re learning. You don’t need to use every activity. You don’t need a perfectly planned homeschool day. Pick an idea. Adapt it. Make it yours. And see where it takes you. Because sometimes movement isn’t something we need to squeeze in around learning. Sometimes movement is how learning comes to life. 💙 If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please let me know in the comments and I’ll send it over to you. by @bloomandbuildhub
One of the best parts of running ACTIVE is hearing what families notice beyond the games and activities. And when we look across the messages, conversations and feedback we receive, there are a few things that come up again and again. Feeling safe. Feeling included. Growing in confidence. Building friendships. Becoming more willing to have a go. Every young person’s experience looks different, and growth doesn’t always happen in the same way or at the same pace. But these are the kinds of wins that mean the most to us. 💙 Because while we might use sport and movement to create the experiences, what we’re really hoping to build goes far beyond the game. by @bloomandbuildhub
You don’t have to be the fastest. You don’t have to be the strongest. You don’t have to score the most goals, win every game or already know what you’re doing. And you definitely don’t have to be “sporty” to belong at ACTIVE. For us, participation will always matter more than performance. Because when the focus shifts away from being the best, young people have space to try. To make mistakes. To learn something new. To discover what they enjoy. To encourage someone else. To keep going when something doesn’t come easily. And to experience what it feels like to be part of something without needing to prove that they deserve to be there. Of course we teach skills. We challenge our young people. We celebrate improvement and encourage them to keep growing. But success at ACTIVE isn’t measured by who runs the fastest or scores the most points. Sometimes success is joining the game. Sometimes it’s trying again after missing. Sometimes it’s asking someone to be your partner. Sometimes it’s simply having a go at something you weren’t sure you could do. Because you shouldn’t have to be the best to feel like you belong. You just need a place where you’re encouraged to show up, have a go and grow from there. 💙 by @bloomandbuildhub
This is what ACTIVE is all about 💙 Creating a space where young people feel safe to have a go, try something new, build confidence and simply enjoy being part of something. We want our young people to leave each session feeling a little more capable, a little more connected, and proud of themselves for giving things a go, whether they nailed it the first time or not. Hearing that our kids are looking forward to coming back each week will always be one of the biggest wins for us. Thank you so much to this beautiful family for trusting us with your young people and for sharing such kind words. #BloomAndBuildHub #BloomAndBuildACTIVE #HomeschoolCommunity #HomeschoolAustralia #YouthDevelopment #ConfidenceThroughMovement by @bloomandbuildhub
Sometimes the moments that mean the most are the ones that could so easily go unnoticed. Recently, I watched a young person who would usually stay close to their parent and take a little time to feel comfortable before joining the group. There was never any pressure to jump straight in. They were given the space to watch, take their time and join us when they felt ready. And then, this week, something small happened. They walked over and joined the group on their own. That was it. There was no big celebration. No one stopped what they were doing. Most people in the room probably didn’t even notice. But I did. Because sometimes confidence doesn’t look like being the loudest person in the room or doing something huge. Sometimes it looks like taking one little step you weren’t quite ready to take before. And that little step matters. Because one small moment of courage can become another. And another. Until eventually, something that once felt really big doesn’t feel quite so big anymore. These are the moments I love noticing at ACTIVE. The little signs that a young person is beginning to feel safer, braver, more connected or a little more confident in themselves. Because sometimes one small moment can change everything. 🌱 by @bloomandbuildhub
Homeschool families, this one is for you! 💙 Some days the learning is flowing… and other days there are busy minds, wiggly bodies and everyone could use a chance to move, reset and start again. So I’ve created a FREE little resource to add to your homeschool toolkit: 🌱 Move, Reset & Refocus Inside you’ll find 10 simple, low-prep movement breaks designed to take around 15 minutes and help bring a little more movement, focus, confidence and connection into your homeschool day. Because movement is about so much more than physical activity. Sometimes a few minutes of moving our bodies is exactly what we need to release some energy, reset our mood, refocus our minds and reconnect before trying again. The activities are simple, adaptable and designed especially with younger homeschoolers in mind. You don’t need lots of equipment, space or preparation, just choose the movement break that works for your family in that moment and give it a go. And because homeschooling isn’t about getting every day perfect, sometimes a little reset is more than enough. 💙 If this sounds like something you would be interested in, please let me know in the comments and I will send it over to you. And keep an eye out, we have another free resource coming soon designed with our older young people in mind. by @bloomandbuildhub
Challenge them enough to grow, without making them feel pressured. 💙 That balance is something we care deeply about at ACTIVE. We want young people to experience new sports, learn new skills and step outside their comfort zone, but in an environment where there is still space to be themselves, learn at their own pace and simply have a go. Because growth doesn’t have to come from pressure. Sometimes it comes from feeling supported enough to try something you weren’t sure you could do. 🌱 And hearing that our young people are excited to come back each week and growing in ways their families didn’t expect? That’s the kind of win that means the most to us. Thank you, Midell, for sharing such beautiful feedback and for being part of our Bloom community. 💙 Move. Connect. Grow. #BloomAndBuildHub #BloomAndBuildACTIVE #HomeschoolCommunity #HomeschoolAustralia #YouthDevelopment #ConfidenceThroughMovement by @bloomandbuildhub

ACTIVE is about so much more than sport. Of course we want young people to move their bodies, try new things and discover what they’re capable of. But we also want them to find their people. To feel comfortable being themselves. To experience encouragement, teamwork, laughter and belonging. And little by little, we want to see them grow, in confidence, resilience, independence and belief in themselves. 🌱 That’s what Move • Connect • Grow means to us. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about being the fastest, strongest or best at sport. It’s about every young person walking away thinking: “I can do this. I belong here. And I’m capable of more than I thought.” That’s what we hope every young person experiences at ACTIVE. #BloomAndBuild #BloomAndBuildACTIVE #MoveConnectGrow #YouthDevelopment #HomeschoolCommunity #ConfidenceInKids by @bloomandbuildhub
