We are hosting the 3rd iteration of our photozine workshop!!!
Do you have ideas that want a book form to hold? Photographs that want to be organised into a story? Join our photozine workshop — a guided journey from ideation to print, where you’ll explore a story you want to tell and shape it into a handmade zine.
Over four weeks, we’ll move together through sequencing, materials, binding, and printing, transforming your images and ideas into zine form. You’ll receive practical support and creative exchange in a small, welcoming group, and the journey concludes with a group showcase + public sharing at 1:1 studio (@121bookstudio) — a space devoted to listening, reading, and making through books — celebrating your work through exhibition, conversation, and community.

For this round, we’re keeping the group small and intimate, and introducing a custom photozine workbook to help you start working with your materials right away. There will also be a hands-on session on materials — exploring paper and binding choices — and a public sharing segment on showcase day to practise articulating your work to others.

The early bird gets the worm; the early riser gets milk tea. Tea downed, I sketch whatever left the deepest mark on the day. Hand-brewed milk tea plus a few pencil strokes — so good 👍🏻

Side note: on a trail in Jiaoxi last time, I overheard a dad tell his son, “The early bird gets the worm. The early worm gets eaten.” I was right in front of them and burst out laughing. Moral: if you’re a worm, sleep in.

From Sketch to Painting 🎨

Outside the window was the busy Prince Edward Road West; inside was a space full of stylish design. Look around — every corner was a little scene worth staring at.

Grateful I got to do a quick sketch at this “Offline Oasis.” @boafhk One afternoon in June my friend and I were sipping tea and chatting when the view ahead snagged my attention — it was just too beautiful.

The moment I put down the color pencils, I knew I’d turn it into a painting.

A5 sketch: 5 minutes. A3 painting (acrylic on canvas): over 5 hours — and probably endless final touches after that. But it’s worthy.

ELECTRON CLOUD
Upcycling x Bamboo Crafting Workshop

In quantum mechanics, the ‘electron cloud’ describes the probability distribution of an electron’s position in space— it follows no fixed path, has no predetermined destination, yet is brimming with infinite possibilities.

More than science, it is a way of living.

Using traditional bamboo crafting as our medium, we will engage in a practice of ‘redefining’ through upcycling. Together, as we transform ‘trash’ into ‘treasure’, we will explore the beauty of that unknown freedom.

See you in the ‘Electron Cloud’ on 22 July!

Offline Oasis
