How we design travel.

Most trip planning starts with logistics: flights, hotels, a list of things to see. Ours starts somewhere else. How do you want to feel when you get there?

You know the version of travel planning that leaves you more tired than the trip itself. Tabs open for hours. A property that looked perfect in photos and didn’t feel right once you walked in. A schedule so full you needed a vacation from the vacation.

That’s not what we build.

Every property is chosen for more than star ratings: the pace of a place, the quiet, whether the light and the materials actually let you exhale. Every transfer, every “just in case,” handled before you ever leave home. So when something shifts mid-trip, you’re not the one scrambling to fix it.

This isn’t travel off a template. It’s built around how you actually rest.

The Saturday feeling. Slower mornings, softer edges, space to breathe.

Travel designed to restore you, not exhaust you.

Welcome to Born on a Saturday. by @born.on.a.saturday

I created Born on a Saturday because travel used to leave me more tired than when I left.

I wanted a different way to move through the world.
One that values rhythm over rushing.
Ease over optimization.
And travel that actually supports the life you return to.

This work is about designing trips that feel grounding, spacious, and considered; so you come home steadier, not depleted.

That’s the Saturday feeling.

Does wellness travel just mean expensive travel?

This fall, at a wellness-travel intensive, I pulled up a rate for a client: $11,000 a night. It really made me think. So this week on Well | Traveled, I’m breaking down how I actually think about spending on travel, from the small choices that cost almost nothing to the stays I’d consider true investments in my health.

Wherever your budget lands, there’s a version of this that fits and still allows you to travel well.

Full story at the link in bio. Save this for your next trip, and if you’re planning one, send me a message.

Scent has a way of holding onto a moment. A room, a season, a feeling you want to come back
to.
On November 17, Ella of @layermorfragrance joins us at Well | Written. She’ll introduce Layermor,
share samples with every guest, and answer anything you’ve wondered about clean fragrance.
Then we write.

On Sunday, the New York City Marathon will run through all five boroughs for the fiftieth time.

I’ve run this race four times, most recently last year, and it remains my favorite marathon in the world. Nothing compares to the stillness on the Verrazzano before the cannon. Or the moment you come down off the Queensboro Bridge and First Avenue opens up in sound. Or that last mile through Central Park, when the whole city seems to carry you home.

This year I’m not running. I’ll be cheering for everyone who is, and thinking about next year’s runners too.

If you’re planning to run in 2027, whether through the drawing, a charity, or a qualifying time, or you’re traveling to cheer someone on, I’d love to help plan it. As a travel advisor focused on wellness-forward stays, I design race weeks around what runners need most: real rest, nourishing food, easy logistics, and a soft place to recover. That way the city can do what it does best on race day.

My Well | Traveled guide to New York arrives this Thursday. It covers where I stay, eat, and slow down in the city I love to run. Link in bio to subscribe.

I’ve watched it happen more times than I can count. Someone falls in love with a place, waits for the right time, and by the time they reach out, the room with the view is gone.

Rest doesn’t have to be last minute. In fact, it works better when it isn’t. There’s something about knowing a trip is coming that starts the restoring early. So tell me: where are you imagining waking up next year? Drop it below 🌿 by @born.on.a.saturday

Yes, I am that person wearing orange-tinted glasses at the airport gate before an overnight flight.

Over the last year I’ve bought a lot of light. A light box, new bulbs, amber glasses, a red light by the bed, an LED mask. I know I’m easily influenced by wellness trends, so I did what nearly two decades as a scientist trained me to do. I read the label before the promise.

What I found is that the three habits with the strongest evidence cost nothing: outside early, dim late, dark asleep. Everything I bought is optional. I’ve rated each one by what the research actually supports, including where it’s thin.

None of these are affiliate links. I paid for every one.

The full breakdown, with what to look for if you’d rather choose your own, is in this week’s Well | Traveled on Substack. Link in bio. If you have a trip coming up, I’ll build you a light plan for your first days on the ground. Send me a message.

Follow for the products I’ve actually tested, and the evidence behind each.

Happy National Day on Writing!

Today is a good reminder that writing isn’t just for “writers.” It’s the email you rewrote three times, the caption you almost didn’t post, the idea sitting in your notes app waiting for its moment.

Your words carry your voice, your story, and your work out into the world. They deserve a little time and care.

So here’s your invitation: write something today. A paragraph, a page, a single honest sentence. Just start.

And if you want a space to keep going, join us for the next Well Written session on November 17th. Come to slow down, pay attention, and let the season you’re in find its way onto the page.

We’re a few weeks from the clocks falling back, and I already feel it. For me, it was never really about the cold. It’s the light.

Before I planned trips, I spent nearly twenty years in scientific roles, and that habit of asking “what does the evidence actually say?” never left. So when I started paying attention to light — morning light, lamp-lit evenings, the red light devices showing up everywhere — I went to the research.

What I found was more subtle than I expected. Most of us aren’t drowning in harmful light. We’re under-lit by day and over-lit by night. And the simplest fix is also free.

This is the lens I bring to every hotel I vet, every itinerary I build, and every room at Harbor in the Tempest. Part 1 of my two-part series on light is on Substack now, covering the science of morning light, winter, bulbs, screens and the red light spectrum. Part 2 is the practical one.

October has a way of drawing the light in close. The days shorten, the candles come out earlier, and something in us starts to turn inward, toward the stories we haven’t had time to hear.

Next Tuesday, we gather around the table at WAKE for the third evening of Traveling Through the Seasons. Guided prompts, curated music, candlelight, and good company. No writing experience needed, only curiosity and a willingness to listen to what shows up on the page.

Each session stands on its own, so this is a beautiful place to begin.
