Excited to announce that I’ve completed my Certified Professional Canine Nutritionist Certification! (CPCN)
🐾🦴🎓

Working with dogs over the past decade, I’ve grown to be so passionate about not just their behavioral needs, but also their holistic wellness. Learning to fully understand their physical, mental & emotional needs, by looking at the whole dog. This starts with feeding our dogs species appropriate diets; in order to prevent diseases and increase overall health, well-being, and longevity.
🤍
Canines are facultative carnivores - which means they require a prey-based diet that is rich in nutrients from meat, organs, bones, hide, and connective tissues! Feeding our dogs real food that they don’t just survive on, but that helps them to thrive & live the longest, healthiest lives possible. Even adding small amounts of fresh, real food to your current foods can make a HUGE difference in the long run.
🥩
I can’t recommend this course enough to anyone in the pet industry wanting to expand their knowledge — veterinary professionals who are interested in learning about nutrition, behaviorists/trainers, groomers, etc! There’s also a Dog Food Basics Course for pet parents who want to better understand their dog’s anatomy, gut microbiome, and just overall wellbeing - and take the leap to begin feeding real food to their fur babes!

If you are new to the world of feeding your dogs fresh food, “The Forever Dog, LIFE” book, by Dr. Karen Becker & Rodney Habib, has amazing ideas to start making some treats, meal toppers, etc. to get your foot in the door!

(Never switch your dog to a raw/homemade diet without working alongside a professional nutritionist! So much more goes into creating balanced dog meals & unfortunately you can’t only simply toss some meat and veggies in your crockpot 😉 If you are interested in consulting with a veterinary nutritionist, reach out and I’m happy to send some amazing references your way!) by @borngooddogtraining

Honey isn’t even 1 yet and has ✨practically✨ mastered the art of doing nothing… aka neutrality in public places!

If you remember puppy Honey… this chick was nuuuuts (for lack of a better word lol @mack_mi113r). She still IS the goofiest, high energy teenage lab/hound mix, but she now has an off switch and knows HOW to dial back her energy.

Impulse control is arguably the most important thing to teach your puppy. Teach them how to relax. Teach them how to be chill. Because they probably won’t just default to that “as they get older”. You will have a stronger relationship & better bond with your dog, and they’ll live in a healthier state of mind.

And before you say “aw so sad she just wants to say hi” — you don’t have to let every stranger pet your dog.
And! Because her parents trained her, she also has offleash freedom. Idk about you, but I’d rather have a dog that I get to take to the beach & out in nature to let them run; that I also get to take to farmers markets, breweries, on vacations, etc and know that they can be chill. by @borngooddogtraining

Is training your dog always gonna be the most fun & exciting parts of your week? No, probably not.
And does dog training include doing things that push both you & your dog out of your comfort zone? Absolutely.
BUT, you shouldn’t have to dread the thought of working through any of it.
Don’t avoid working through behavioral problems like reactivity, anxiety, fearfulness etc because you know that the work is going to be hard.
Even the most difficult problems to overcome can be done through practices that can be made enjoyable for both of you.
Firm believer in actually ENJOYING your life with your dog. 🙂‍↕️

(And… a lot of the time just finding the right community to encourage you, relate to you, and support you is the biggest piece of the puzzle)
♥️
& having a friend who supplies lattes to caffeinate your group sessions helps, too @2ndwavecoffee 🫂 by @borngooddogtraining

Ohhhh how we love the dog days of summer! 🌊🐚🌞🐴🐾

BGDT grads — we’ll be offering some larger group EVENING pack hikes starting in July. Keep your eyes peeled! 🫶 by @borngooddogtraining

These photoshoots forever live rent-free in my mind!!🌊☁️🎞️ There’s something so special about watching these dogs & their humans just playing together by the water.. I think what makes it even better is knowing all of the work that’s truly gone into these moments ~ the training, patience, consistency..
Always so proud of all of my Born Good dogs & their humans, and days like these are such a fun reminder of how lucky I am to be surrounded by such a cool dog community.🥹 by @borngooddogtraining

(and probably to crate train)
But seriously! 🌊🥾⛰️☕️🌲🌞☁️
If you’re not willing to get your dog out in nature, then complaining about problems inside the house isn’t fair.
One 20 min walk a day is not ittt, but we live in a society that has created this mindset that it is.

HIKE, SWIM, BIKE, CAMP… go do stuff with your dogs. by @borngooddogtraining

Nikki and I have something fun planned for Fridays in late spring/summer 👀 Has your dog gone through training, enjoys playing with other dogs, and likes early mornings on the beach? by @borngooddogtraining

Your dog doesn’t want roses or chocolate. They want walks with Nikki! 💌🫶🏼🤍🐾
Starting in March, we’re launching our STRUCTURED DOG WALKING service!

Nikki and her pitty Blu have been training with me for over a year and a half, and they have become a powerhouse of a team. Nikki has become an incredible trainer to him, while simultaneously becoming my right-hand duo for buddy walks, group sessions & helping me work my reactive dogs. ♥️ (Literally, sometimes this woman will rush home from her business, pick up Blu, and meet me at the boardwalk within minutes notice LOL a true mvp)

So, we figured, since she’s absorbed so much dog training knowledge over the past year, why not put that to use & expand the Born Good pack! We are so excited to offer obedience focused dog walking. Our goal of these walks is geared towards existing & previous training clients who just need a hand getting their dog out of the house, mentally stimulated & burning energy. When you’ve invested so much time and money in training your dog, it’s crucial that their walks are keeping up with those behaviors you’ve worked so hard to accomplish. Nikki’s focus on these walks is maintaining proper leash skills, preventing reactivity, reinforcing polite public manners, and correctly using any tools your dog has been conditioned to walk on.

Reach out with any questions you have! We are only offering these on specific days of the month starting in March, so there will be limited booking. The dog walking intake form can be found on my website right next to the training intake form. by @borngooddogtraining
