Sunset surf is forever our love language >>>

#SurfSenegal #DakarSurf #SunsetSurf #SurfTrip #SurfAfrica by @boussomame_fallou

I started surfing when I was just 8 or 9 years old, here in Dakar, Senegal 🇸🇳

Back then, my family didn’t agree with my choice. They had other plans for me, but I knew surfing was what I wanted to pursue.

I kept going, and eventually, they accepted my decision and entrusted me to Babacar, who took me under his wing.

Today, surfing is not just my passion. It’s also my job.

I work as a surf instructor at @copacabanasurfvillage , on Virage Beach in Dakar, where I get to share my love for the ocean with others.

But when my lessons are over, my own journey continues. I train whenever I can and take part in competitions whenever the opportunity comes.

I’m still learning, still pushing myself, and still chasing my goals.

This is my journey, and I’m just getting started.

An unforgettable experience!

Proud to have taken part in two surf events during the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games.

It was even more special to share this experience with @bourezmichel , former Championship Tour surfer, who came all the way to Senegal to take part in these Games.

Beyond the competition, I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to learn from someone who has competed at the highest level.

A special thank you to Michel for sharing a surf session with us at Ngor just before your departure, and for taking the time to give me valuable advice about my journey and future as a professional surfer.

These are the moments and encounters that make you grow, both in and out of the water.

Thank you, Michel, for your time and inspiration.

The journey continues!

Awesome opportunity to showcase the talent and growth of surfing in Africa during the 2026 Youth Olympics in Dakar, the first Olympic event ever in Africa.

Along with the local crew of Senegalese rippers @isasurfing invited surfers from 6 countries in Africa 🇦🇴🇬🇭🇱🇷🇲🇦🇲🇿🇿🇦 to show their elite level of surfing and the sport to local youth and the world.

Thanks to @bourezmichel for being the athlete role model and sharing your experience and power turns with the crew.

Thanks to @oumar_seye_bks_black_surfeur_ @federation_senegalaise_surf @takeoffngor for the amazing hospitality and all the hard work to make it happen.

During the opening ceremony they said “tomorrow it will be your turn to inspire the world…” excited to see how surfing continues to grow in Africa and impact lives beyond the Youth Olympic Games.

Stoked to also catch a few fun waves and shout out to @juanigayol and @naslobustamante for capturing all the action 🤙🏻 by @boussomame_fallou

Surfing isn’t an official sport at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, but it’s one of the engagement sports 🌊

To celebrate surfing and its growing community across Africa, two days of surf events and competitions were organised, bringing together local Senegalese surfers and young talents from across Africa.

Dakar Dream, 3 surfers, 3 Dreams ✨

I’m Fallou Bousso, a Senegalese surfer competing to represent my country on the international stage.

Growing up in Dakar, surfing became more than a passion. Today, I teach at Copacabana Surf Village while continuing to train, compete, and work towards my dream of one day representing Senegal at the Olympic Games.

But getting there takes more than talent. Access to boards, equipment, travel, and financial support can make all the difference.

That’s part of the story behind Dakar Dream, a documentary by @alexander.video that follows three Senegalese surfers, sharing our lives, our ambitions, and the surf culture we’re part of.

Proud to be part of a project that brings our stories to the screen and gives Senegalese surfing a voice.

Thank you, Alex, for helping share our story.

This is only the beginning.

Dakar sits at the westernmost point of Africa and catches swell 365 days a year. Its surfers have been riding it for four generations. DAKAR DREAM follows three of them chasing the WSL, the Olympics, and a surf school to raise the next one, filmed entirely on their own cameras and WhatsApp voice notes. No interviews, no fed lines, no crew flying in for two weeks of golden hour.

How we made these animations (next slide). “Dakar Dream” available on YouTube. Animations by @kuba_lu

The concept started as motion tracking the graphic assets designed by @bybrunapetalla

@kuba_lu then simplified some of the designs from the assets Bruna created. In this timelapse he’s hand drawing each fish for each frame.

It was a step in the right direction, but it still detracted from the surfer. @kuba_lu

@kuba_lu we also tried different shading to make the fish pop against the background. This also influenced the final animations by having a black shadow to help separate them from the image.

We then simplified the shapes into lines. we also tried changing the colors of the lines as they animated, but it was still too hard to follow. @kuba_lu

Next we tried to animate the lines in various directions to give them life of their own, but again it was still too complicated. @kuba_lu

This is what it looked like. Kuba also animated every two frames until we decided on a final look then he’d go back and animate in between. That’s why this feels choppy. @kuba_lu

Each line was animated by hand and each scene had 6-12 lines. This lead to thousands of hand animated lines being hand tracked and drawn. @kuba_lu

@kuba_lu animating in a library in Wroclaw, Poland www.kuba.lu

@kuba_lu here is an example as we got closer to the final product of what the individual lines looked like and how they were animated for each frame.

And here is the final. The whole project of just the animations took a couple months. Swipe for more. @kuba_lu made this design and experimentation process so worth it!
