By 2005, my drift away from hardcore was in full effect. In October 2005, I moved overseas for the first time. Before starting a job in London, I travelled through several Central European countries, ending up in Prague. At the time, I knew nothing about epidemiology, harm reduction, or hepatitis C. I definitely had no colleagues or friends with lived experience of incarceration or injecting drug use.

That same year, on the other side of the world, @loma_prieta formed. I discovered them later, maybe around 2015, as I spent more time studying behind a computer, heading toward pursuing further study in public health , and listening to hardcore more frequently again, the music that had shaped my worldview in my earlier years.

And so here I am tonight back in Prague, 21 years later. Attending a conference on harm reduction and hepatitis C, spending time with these colleagues and friends, and seeing @loma_prieta live for the first time.

Life sometimes takes us along unexpected paths, at times rocky and painful, at times golden and full of joy. Who knows where the path will lead from here, but I’m grateful to be on it.

An Australian living in Montreal walks into a vegan restaurant in Brno to see a hardcore band from France sounds like a spin on a really bad joke but rather it was a great way to end the night! Merci @oneburningmatch dekuju @vegalite_cz @reconnectbrnoo

Thanks for coming to Montreal for your first show in Canada @holidays.in.united.states, was top notch 👌🏼 @idialedyournumber from Halifax and @avecplaisirband were great too.

Unfortunately I missed @halfpastapril 🙁 But they shouldn't be left out, so instead here is a throwback to their first show back on Valentines eve 🥳

There comes a point in your life that you realise a show where the first band starts at 10pm is too late. Last night was that point for me. Nonetheless, a great show with @inheadlightsmtl @nelligan_band getting on the bill with @truckviolence @popmontreal

Late summer Montreal on a Friday. Some OG hardcore at some festival as a warm up, some great new generation hardcore @beaboutitzine festival, and some awesome screamo from near and far to cap it off. Also @bloomdreamband no video because I was too busy being blown away 🌪🙀
